Do I need to use rel canonical in a blog?
-
I work at an ecommerce site and we are in the process setting up a blog. Do I need to use rel canonical what talking about a certain category? If I sell widgets and write a blog about widgets should I use that tag? Or is there something else I should do?
-
If the content is different you don't need a canonical
-
I have read that page and this is why I have the confusion. The URLs will not be close, the content will be very different, but the keywords will be similar. If I sell widgets and also have a blog post about widgets the content is very different between the two but bot have similar keywords.

The URLs will be very different. Current structure is www.site.com/category/item The blog will be www.site.com/blog/blogposttitle the URLs will not be close but the keywords throughout the page will be.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but if two different URLs contain the same content then yes you should use the canonical tag. Here's Google's help page on the topic:

It's always good to include a canonical tag, because different versions of your URL could get indexed. If you are using Wordpress for your blog, it should generate the tag automatically.

Subdomains, blogs and redirects, oh my!
Hello! We are currently hosting our blog on Medium which I would like to move away from. The options now are to host the blog with our custom CMS or use the HubSpot blog capabilities. I know their blog has built-in SEO best practices but I'm pretty sure it hosts the blog on a subdomain. I keep getting conflicting advice on this. In a whiteboard Friday Rand once said to NEVER host on a subdomain. But I know that google now associates links that redirect to the original site. I.e. If redpepperland.com redirects to repepper.land then redpepper.land should have all the link juice of redpepperland.com, right? But Moz doesn't recognize any inbound links to redpepper.land, I have to actually put redpepperland.com in as an additional site to see those links and the domain authority which worries me. So I guess two questions: 1. Does anyone have experience with Hubspot's blog? Will the subdomain hurt our SEO efforts? 2. Does google now know how to associate a redirect's link juice and domain authority to the page it redirects to? Not sure I know what I'm talking about at all but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Blog on subdomain?
Hello, I am going to add a blog to my site.
Link Building | | AdAdam
I use cloudfront CDN to host my whole site (its a 1 page parallax type thing now)
With cloudfront I can not easily do dynamic content but it is possible. So I have a few options blog.mydomain.com pointing to a regular server
www.mydomain.com/blog/ uploading static html pages for my blog, its a slight hassel but not too bad What could be best for SEO? will having blog.mydomain.com be seen that much differently to google? are they smart enough to see it as just another section of my site? Another spanner in the works is that I have a domain for australia and a totally different domain for international sales with no content or structure duplication between them
Could I maybe be better off with a myname.wordpress.com blog and linking it to both my domains?
There are a ton of spam wordpress blogs so I am not sure what would be best. My blog will not be intended for just SEO purposes.0 -
Is commenting on other peoples blogs / articles good for seo?
Hello everyone, Just a quick question, say if I find some websites which are relevant to my service and they have articles I can comment on and include my URL , will these help for SEO? The websites also have a good PR rating higher than 3 does this count towards anything? Would these links be classed 'follow' or 'nofollow' links - could something please explain what this means aswell. Thanks very much!

Linksmanagement.com anyone use it?
linksmanagement.com anyone use it? I have seen reviews up and down just wondering if they are safe. Seems pretty simple you pay for the sites you want to be on. I assume the fees are monthly.

Blogs that Thank Their Sponsors in a Blog Post
I've noticed some popular bloggers who create a monthly blog post that thanks their sponsors and the links are followed. Do you think that Google lets this slide or are they stopping some or all of the links from these blogs from passing link juice?

Best way to use a cartoon as linkbait
I have an idea for a cartoon that, once created, is likely to be shared a lot in my niche. I'm currently hiring someone to draw the cartoon. My question, though, is the best way to get SEO benefit out of this. If you had a cartoon that was likely to go viral would you publish it as a blog post on your site? People tend to like sharing things that are on imgur or flickr, but these won't help my seo. (Other than perhaps if I end up getting good PR on a flickr image and then link back to my site.) I'm likely going to just publish this as a blog post on my site, but I thought I'd float this out there for other people to give their input. Have you ever used a cartoon or image for linkbait?

I was looking for the best practice to use anchor tags...
Seomoz says NOT to use your anchor terms on other external pages as you will cannabilize your main page - this is news to me. Appreciate any input on this.
