See screenshot: Is this an example of Canonical issue or am I making an error in judgement?
-
Hi Mozzers.
Please see the constructed screen grab from Open site explorer.
Do I have canonical Errors with this client?
Thanks!
-
Thanks Alan,
I stopped to think because of the canonical tag that everybody now seems to be using for everything everywhere.
I like the 301 because I have total control and the operation happens on my server. (I don't have to worry about search engines getting flaky or treating the canonical differently at some date in the future.) So my gut and brain said use the 301... but I was ready for someone to argue for the canonical.
-
Thanks EGOL,
I am not the developer, (or A developer) but I know it is not hard to fix (301). The question remains, is this a canonical issue? How does something like this happen? Thanks E.
-
I wouldn't even pause to think. I'd just immediately do the 301 redirect. The fact that both versions are reporting as many links as they do is an indicator of serious link dilution.
-
I think that I would do a 301 redirect of domain.com to www.domain.com.

How to deal with rel=canonical when using POST parameters
Hi there,
On-Page Optimization | | mjk26
I currently have a number of URLs throughout my site of the form: https://www.concerthotels.com/venue-hotels/o2-academy-islington-hotels/256133#checkin_4-21-2024&checkout_4-22-2024&rooms_1&guests_2&artistid_15878:256133 This sends the user through to a page showing hotels near the O2 Academy Islington. Once the page loads, my code looks at the parameters specified in the # part of the URL, and uses them to fill in a form, before submitting the form as a POST. This basically reloads the page, but checks the availability of the hotels first, and therefore returns slightly different content to the "canonical" version of this page (which simply lists the hotels before any availability checks done). Until now, I've marked the page that has had availability checks as noindex, follow. But because the form was submitted with POST parameters, the URL looks exactly like the canonical one. So the two URLs are identical, but due to POST parameters, the content is slightly different. Does that make sense? My question is, should both versions of this page be marked as index, follow? Thanks

Duplicate 'meta title' issue (AMP & NON-AMP Pages)
how to fix duplicate meta title issue in amp and non-amp pages? example.com
On-Page Optimization | | 21centuryweb
example.com/amp We have set the 'meta title' in desktop version & we don't want to change the title for AMP page as we have more than 10K pages on the website. ----As per SEMRUSH Tool---- ABOUT THIS ISSUE It is a bad idea to duplicate your title tag content in your first-level header. If your page’s <title>and <h1> tags match, the latter may appear over-optimized to search engines. Also, using the same content in titles and headers means a lost opportunity to incorporate other relevant keywords for your page.</p> <p><strong>HOW TO FIX IT</strong></p> <p>Try to create different content for your <title> and <h1> tags.<br /><br />this is what they are recommending, for the above issue we have asked our team to create unique meta and post title for desktop version but what about AMP page?<br /><br />Please help!</p></title>0 -

Handling a Huge Amount of Crawl Errors
HI all, I am faced with a crawl errors issue of a huge site (>1MiO pages) for which I am doing On-page Audit. 404 Erorrs: >80'000 Soft 404 Errors: 300 500 Errors: 1600 All of the above reported in GWT. Many of the error links are simply not present on the pages "linked from". I investigated a sample of pages (and their source) looking for the error links footprints and yet nothing. What would be the right way to address this issue from SEO perspective, anyway? Clearly. I am not able to investigate the reasons since I am seeing what is generated as HTML and NOT seeing what's behind. So my question is: Generally, what is the appropriate way of handling this? Telling the client that he has to investigate that (I gave my best to at least report the errors) Engaging my firm further and get a developer from my side to investigate? Thanks in advance!!

Html and css errors - what do SE spiders do if they come across coding errors? Do they stop crawling the rest of the code below the error
I have a client who uses a template to build their websites (no problem with that) when I ran the site through w3c validator it threw up a number of errors, most of which where minor eg missing close tags and I suggested they fix them before I start their off site SEO campaigns. When I spoke to their web designer about the issues I was told that some of the errors where "just how its done" So if that's the case, but the validator still registers the error, do the SE spiders ignore them and move on, or does it penalize the site in some way?

Duplicate content issues with products page 1,2,3 and so on
Hi, we have this products page, for example of a landing page:
On-Page Optimization | | Essentia
http://www.redwrappings.com.au/australian-made/gift-ideas and then we have the link to page 2,3,4 and so on:
http://www.redwrappings.com.au/products.php?c=australian-made&p=2
http://www.redwrappings.com.au/products.php?c=australian-made&p=3 In SEOmoz, they are recognized as duplicate page contents.
What would be the best way to solve this problem? One easy way i can think of is to nominate the first landing page to be the 'master' page (http://www.redwrappings.com.au/australian-made/gift-ideas), and add canonical meta links on page 2,3 and so on. Any other suggestions? Thanks 🙂0 -
Will a "no follow" "no index" meta tag resolve duplicate content issue?
I have a duplicate content issue. If the page has already been indexed will a no follow no index tag resolve the issue or do I also need a rel canonical statement?

Time lag to see effect on rankings after a good optimization
Once you do an optimise / make some (hopefully positive!) changes to pages re keywords etc - how long does it take for you to move up the rankings - if indeed you do actually move up... I made some changes last week and see some slight movement this monday - can I expect more of a movement over a period of a few weeks? Or does it take longer? Maybe tricky question to answer but hopefully you know what I mean...
