Help: my WordPress Blog generates too many onpage links and duplicate content
-
I have a WordPress Blog since November last year (so I'm pretty new to WordPress) and the effects on ranking for some keywords are really good. So I thought tag clouds are good.
Crawl Diagnostics tell me now that I have too many onpage links for example my author page breaks the record: 256
http://inlinear.com/blog/author/inlinear/I think thats because there are links for each word in the tag cloud generated ...
On this page (and many other pages) WordPress displays (teasers) the beginning of each post (read more ...) producing duplicate content and even new canonical tags....
The page titles are also too long because I installed "All in One SEO Pack" and now this plugin and wordpress itself mixes titles together ...
But what can I do to avoid all this. Is there a PlugIn that can help... I think millions of blogs will have the same problems... I my blog yet has very few content.
Thanks for your answers :))

Tag Clouds are bad. People need to stay away from them.
Make sure you don't have any useless one-off tags. Far too many people think that since Tags point to relevancy and could be useful for SEO that they should then add 15 "relevant" tags to a post. But then you've potentially created 16 duplicate pages. Tags help for relevancy by relating one post to other posts. If there's only one post in that tag page then its not helping you (UNLESS you plan on eventually adding more posts to that tag in the future).
Author page can get annoying in Wordpress but its the least of all worries concerning duplicate content. You can always lessen the problem by getting more authors. Otherwise, don't get too worried about that page.
All in One SEO Pack shouldn't be integrating poorly with wordpress and causing title issues. What it may be doing that is causing the overly long titles is that it adds on " | [insert Long Blog Name]" after the title of the article. So if you put in a long title, it then also adds in your case " | INLINEAR Digital Marketing & Brasilien Blog" which gives you about 20 characters to work with for your "optimized" title. Anything more than that will trigger the Title Too Long warning.

Hey Holger
I don't use all in one SEO Pack so it may do this but certainly, the Yoast WordPress SEO plugin will allow you to sort out a lot of these issues.
You can likely noindex your author and tag indexes as they are essentially just duplicates and the WordPress SEO plugin will allow you to fix your page titles.
Follow the advice in this article and you can't go far wrong:

Hope that helps!

Dynamic links & duplicate content
Hi there, I am putting a proposal together for a client whose website has been optimised to include many dynamic links and so there are many pages with duplicate content: only the page title, h1 and URL is different. My client thinks this isn't an issue. What is the current consensus on this? Many thanks in advance.

Need help in understanding why my site does not rank well for our best content?
Hi, We are a technology site from India (Digit.in) and we create a lot of original product review content (http://www.digit.in/mobile-phones/nokia-lumia-830-review-24655.html) but don't seem to rank even in the first 4 pages on Google results. Please let me know the reason for this and how to get this fixed. Thanks Arun

Help! A site has copied my blog!

Today I looked at "Links to Your Site" on Google Webmasters and I see a copy of my site on another URL. mysite.eemovies.org/mycategory/mypost The domain name is eemovies.org and then all my stuff is wrapped around it and all my content is there! How do I stop this?!

Duplicate Content only an Issue on a Huge Scale?
To what extent is duplicate content an issue? We have a support forum with some duplicate content because users ask the same questions. The Moz reports we receive highlights our duplicate content and page title for our support forum as a "big" issue. I'm unsure to what extent it harms our SEO, and making the support section non-crawable would impair our level of support. It would be nice to know for sure if we should be concerned about this, and if yes, how can we do it differently? Thanks, I appreciate you help. -Allan

Should I have content on my home page or links to my articles
Hi, i have asked this question a couple of times without any luck so i am hoping third time lucky. My site www.in2town.co.uk has dropped in the rankings for two of my important keywords, lifestyle magazine and lifestyle news, so i am just wondering if i have to much content on the page for google to understand what the page is about. i am thinking to just have the links on my page instead of the intro to the articles, for example another online magazine does this, http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/ Can anyone please let me know if i should keep the intro to the articles or if i should go with the links idea like femalefirst does to help google understand that we are a lifestyle magazine any advice would be great

How to avoid duplicates when URL and content changes during the course of a day?
I'm currently facing the following challenge: Newspaper industry: the content and title of some (featured) articles change a couple of times during a normal day. The CMS is setup so each article can be found by only using it's specific id (eg. domain.tld/123). A normal article looks like this: domain.tld/some-path/sub-path/i-am-the-topic,123 Now the article gets changed and with it the topic. It looks like this now: domain.tld/some-path/sub-path/i-am-the-new-topic,123 I can not tell the writers that they can not change the article as they wish any more. I could implement canonicals pointing to the short url (domain.tld/123). I could try to change the URL's to something like domain.tld/some-path/sub-path/123. Then we would lose keywords in URL (which afaik is not that important as a ranking factor; rather as a CTR factor). If anyone has experiences sharing them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jan

Anchor text on outbound links on a blog, relevancy detrimental or positive?
We have a blog related to computer support, and we have been using guest posts and promotion of those posts to boost freshness and rankings of the blog. We have been restricting outbound links to prevent words such as 'computer repair, 'computer support' etc, because we were under the impression that if we want to rank for those words, we should only allow INCOMING links with that anchor text, and that outbound links from the page, would rob the other parts of the site of the link juice this page provides. My question is, is this wrong? Should I freely allow outbound links on my blog page that contain anchor text that I my self am trying to rank for? Or was I correct initially? Current the anchor text is in 'related' industries, such as mobile apps, technology news, etc...things that google might think are 'related', but not exactly what the site is about.
