Case sensitive url's
-
Hi,
Really appreciate advice on this one in advance!
We had a problem with case sensitive urls (eg: /web-jobs or /Web-jobs)
We added a code to convert all urls into lowercase letters and added 301 redirection.
We are now experiencing problems with duplicate page content.
Each time a url contains caps letter it is converted and redirected to small letter url.
I can convert all urls into lowercase letters (all places) but the problem now is google have already indexed urls so they may cause duplicate content issue.
The solution:
Remove 301 redirection added to convert url into small letter.
Add canonical url which converts url into complete small letter, so google index content only from canonical url.
But I am little confused about what will happen to already indexed pages with caps in url.
Appreciate any advice you can give?
Simon

Thanks, it seems to be resolving itself

How long ago did you do all this? Everything you did if correct; however, it can take Google a couple months to straighten everything out.
You can always remove the bad URLs from Google's index via Webmaster Tools.

Why are my URL's changing
My rankings suddenly dropped and when trying to understand why I realized that nearly all images in Google's cached version of my site were missing. In the actual site they appear but in the cached version they don't. I noticed that most of the images had a ?6b5830 at the end of the URL and these were the images that were not showing. I am hoping that I found the reason for the drop in rankings. Maybe since Google cannot see a lot of the content it decided not to rank it as well (particularly since it seems to happen on thousands of pages). This is a cached version of my site I am using the following plugins that might be causing it: Yoasts SEO plugin, W3 total cache. Does anyone know what is causing ?6b5830 to be added to the end of most of my URL's? Could this be the reason for the ranking drop? Thanks in advance!

Found a Typo in URL, what's the best practice to fix it?
Wordpress 3.4, Yoast, Multisite The URL is supposed to be "www.myexample.com/great-site" but I just found that it's "www.myexample.com/gre-atsite" It is a relatively new site but we already pointed several internal links to "www.myexample.com/gre-atsite" What's the best practice to correct this? Which option is more desirable? 1.Creating a new page I found that Yoast has "301 redirect" option in the Advanced tap Can I just create a new page(exact same page) and put noindex, nofollow and redirect it to http://www.myexample.com/great-site OR 2. htacess redirect rule simply change the URL to http://www.myexample.com/great-site and update it, and add Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On
