Open Site Explorer isn't able to crawl the entire web, we only crawl about the top 25% of it. We also have a bit of a delay between when you get a link and when it shows up in the main OSE crawl.
I'd suggest also verifying your site in Google Webmaster Tools and Bing's Webmaster Center. Both of those sites will show you additional links that are coming into your site that OSE hasn't caught yet.

Hi Colin,
This is what i dont get, i click on Local Directories, one of those is Yell.com
I have my website linked to my advert there already but not coming up as a link

Yea, you can search around and find little niche sites and blog listing sites that relate to cars. But the general directories will all have categories for auto body repair or something similar. So for any local services business I'd grab listings like places, yahoo, hotfrog, manta, kudzu, mojopages...the list is never-ending really so you can kind of use your own discretion in determining what directories are more relevant. Did you see the local directories? Pretty much all of these will have categories for your type of business.
Another tool I've had success with is the Local Citation Finder by Whitespark. It finds relevant citations based local search terms and does other nifty stuff.

SEOmoz has a number of public tools they can use. After that, a basic membership allows for up to 5 campaigns so you and your friends could share a membership and get all the benefits of Pro.
A word of caution, don't interlink with your friends sites unless they are of direct benefit to your customers. Even then, use sparingly. The absolutely last thing you want to do is anything that feels like cheating. Link exchanges/purchases are frowned upon.

ty for the response, what about if im testing and trying to help my friends website etc Can i help other peoples using semoz any tips on how about doing this ?

Hey James. Further to Colin's message, with a fresh site launch it's time to outline an ongoing content and marketing strategy. It isn't about some magic number of links but a methodical way you can earn those links on an ongoing basics.
Another easy start is asking partner businesses to give you a bit of link love. You could also consider a press release announcing the new site particularly if it has something special for customers.
Your local phone directory may have a plan that gets you a back link worth your time.
Head over to getlisted.org (now owned by seomoz) and make sure your local profile is as strong as it can be. A car repair shop will really benefit from a strong local showing. Keep on top of any reviews.
After that, Youmoz is full of link building strategies. Select a few and give them a daily or weekly time allowance.

Hi Colin and ty
I can't find any for Car body repairs etc, can I search ?

Hi James, don't worry everyone's gotta start somewhere. This is normal if you 've just had a brand new site built. You want links from other domains, and the best kind of links aren't the kind that you have any control over (someone links to you naturally because the content is useful). This stuff takes time
You may want to start by submitting to some reputable directories related to your niche. Check out SEOmoz's directory list.
...oh and btw, open site explorer gives some great insight, but it's not as accurate as your own Google webmaster tools.

Should I disavow these links?
Hi all, I have a site that is a year old, we have been building backlinks organically - probably around 50 or so - then almost overnight we had100s of spammy links. Screenshot here: https://ibb.co/cijiub My questions: Should I disavow these? What happens if I don't disavow these? Can I work out where they came from? If I disavow a few of them, is this a token offering to the Google Gods that will lower my risk of being penalised? Thank you. cijiub

How to link build?
Hello all. I've been having intense conversations with an experienced SEO, who has told me that the only way to get consistent links to your website, and to build you business through the web is through blogger outreach, and then paying the bloggers to put your appropriate content on their high Page Ranking website. To me, this may well be right. But it sounds dull as anything. Any thoughts? William

Thoughts on creating a resource/recommend links page in order to attain links?
Hey guys, Just wondering, how does Google view reciprocal link building nowadays? I've heard in the past that it's something that Google isn't particularly keen on. However, more recently, I've also read that - as long as the links are decent (and in moderation) - link exchanging is by no means a bad thing. The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of creating a "resource/recommended links page" for a client of mine. Because of their industry, it's really apparent that attaining links is often only possible if there is the opportunity of a reciprocal link in return. Therefore, I'd need to have a resource/recommend links page of my own. Is this something I should go ahead with to make it much easier to attain links? Or should I try to avoid reciprocal links and attempt to pinpoint one-way linking opportunities - even if they're thin on the ground? Any help much as appreciated as always. Cheers.

HELP - Should I Disavow SEO, Site Analysis, and Website Worth Links?
I have a gadget site and have MANY links to my site from sites that offer web analysis or SEO tools. For example, the site chkme.com has over 1,000 links to my home page. I don't know who they are, why they are linking to my site, and their site is irrelevant to my industry. Should I disavow links from sites like these? My site seems to be linked to from a lot of "website worth" type sites as well. I think I may have been hit with an unnatural site penalty but I do NO blackhat or any type of link building whatsoever. Thanks in advance 😉

Editorial links

So I ran into a site that was not ranking 4 days ago and has over 2 million links to it on some keywords. My guess is this is a link bomb, but the issue is this is pushing one of my sites down. Does anyone know a good way to over come a bomb like this?
So I ran http://www.riogrande.com/ into this site not that long ago and wanted to see if any other SEO's have an opinion on it. I've seen a Google bomb before, but the amount of links going into this URL is insane. The thing is how does one over come a Google Bomb? Do you just wait to see what Google does or do you just hope to rank under that URL? I should also note that it appears that all the keywords to it are relevant to the sites content. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Link building and directory links to a new site
I have three new sites all hosted on the same server in the same public html folder and each site is in a different folder inside the public html folder. These sites are a listing of live music venues in different cities in Texas. Should I link these sites together to increase page rank to each other and also put key search phrases in the anchor text and place these links in the text in the center of each page of each site to make the links more effective? Also, because the sites are about a year old they don't have many inlinks yet. If i submit them to about 50 directories will Google not like this because there are way more directory links than natural links? I've been told that it is trouble to have more than about 50% directory links compared to natural links. Thanks in advance for your answers! Take care,

How do you find out what (and when) new websites are linking to your site?
I may be missing the obvious here, but is there any way (a programme or site) of seeing what new links come into your site? Obviously as anyone who works in SEO, I like to see which links we have got with the work we put in contacting webmasters, etc. But is there a better way than just manually looking through ALL the links? Any help will appreciated.
