Couple of noob questions
-
Hi, couple of easy questions for you guys...
Im a web designer and my #1 keyword is web design huddersfield.
I own the domain huddersfield.com,
and i will have a page titled web design.
Now do i target the web design page or the index page as i don't want keyword cannibalization, but is it better for my index page to be the landing page?
#2 Considering that huddersfield.com is my domain should i set the title to:
web design huddersfield or just
web design?
please help.

I understand your concern.
If I had the domain for a similar size town in the USA where I lived I would give it a shot. In addition to directory pages I would have a lot of local content and it would grow over time.
-
Thanks,
Do you know of any popular/done-right directories , directories to me seem a little drab and uninteresting...
-
Nice domain.
Have you thought about turning the domain into a local directory with pages targeting the various types of service businesses, stores, churches, schools, sports, etc. in your area.
Your own page could be at huddersfield.com/web-design/
If you can do that and produce good rankings for the business niches then those store, service, church, sports, etc. pages would be a great launching pad for your clients.
You might also be able to sell advertising on the site. And, the site would be great advertising for your biz.

thanks for your input

I personally would do Web Design Huddersfield | Company Name
That way you are specifying that your company does web design in the Huddersfield area.
It helps build your brand.

Yes thats great thanks, ill optimize my other pages for responsive & wordpress design.
Any input on the second question please?

If that is your main service, I would probably optimize the homepage for Web Design Huddersfield. You can have as many additional pages on web design as you want throughout your site as long as the content is unique. For instance, Ecommerce Website Design Huddersfield or Responsive Web Design Huddersfield.
This approach will allow users that land on your homepage to then specify the type of web design they are looking for using your navigation. It also allows you to write a ton of unique content for those specific areas of web design on other pages - which should hopefully act as landing pages for visitors seeking a specific type of web design.
Does that makes sense?

SEO Content Revolution Question
I was wondering if articles written about questions people are asking will help my website rank better. For example let's say I wrote an article answering the query, "What Hair Dye Does Angela Merkel Use?" or, "Is Hillary Clinton Thinking of Running for President," and they rank well on google, and in turn they get viewed a lot by searchers because it answers their queries. Would this help my website as whole start ranking better? Thanks!

Help! A couple of basic questions on dup. content, pagination and tumblr blogs.
Hi, and many thanks in advance for any assistance. According to our GWMT we currently have over a thousand duplicated title tags and meta descriptions. These stem from tabs that we have located beneath the body copy, which when you click on them display offers or itineraries (we're a travel company). So the URLs change to having "?st=Offer" or "?st=Itinerary" at the end, and are considered to be duplicating the original page's title and meta des. Sometimes the original page is also paginated, and shows the same duplication errors. What would be the best way to ensure we're not duplicating anything? Also, we have a tumblr blog, where there's single page displaying all the blog content, but also links to each blog on a separate individual page. We would like to keep the individual pages as we can optimise to target specific keywords, but want to avoid any duplication issues again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a direct question about file structure.
This question is about a new file structure and SEO friendly URL's. Does a file name make a difference? I have a direct question about file structure. Our old site was formated with a URL of http://rousechamberlin.com/about_us.aspx our new site is structured http://rousechamberlin.com/AboutUs/ no file no extension. As the SEO guy of the company and not the programmer my feeling is this is killing us. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

Very basic hands-on type of question about SEO
Hello, I am a complete newbie to the world of SEO and I have read few thing available on the net about things to begin with (so google seo guide and then seomoz beginers tutorial) and I just wanted to ask if I understand the process correctly: So I have my website lest call it abcd.com and there I might have a subpage about certain type of robots or specific parts that these robots are built from. I do my keyword search using adwords keyword search tool. Where I get 10 phrases (phrase1, phrase2, phrase3 so on..) that could be used by users to search information about certain type of robots I wrote on my website. Let's asume all 10 of those phrases have low competition so they can all be used. And they are from the long tail ofcourse so let's say I can get 10,000 searches from them per month. Some of them would have 200 searches, some 1500, some 5000 per month in that google adwords report. After reading those basic tutorials I understand it this way: I put one or two best phrases of those 10 in my

2) I describe the website as accurately as possible to those keywords in i.e. Those specific robots are built from those specific parts - we know all about them.

3) I put all of them in phrase1,2,3, etc.

4) I use one or two phrases in
on the page with article

5) then I use those phrases in the text that's on that particular page of my website - text is about certain type of robots and parts etc.

6) I put photos on that page with alt descriptions that may contain some of these phrases

7) to be honest I don't know how am I suppose to build links from that page about certain type of robots to anywhere else on my website - but I undestand that's the part of SEO as well

And that's pretty much how I understand the basics of SEO. I read about it and I just don't know if that's what I am suppose to do. Silly me!
