What Content to Write - Hot Topic or More Niche Related?
-
Hi,
Just for example, say you've got a shoe store but shoes are a non-searched-for topic on the informational side. Say fashion models or teenybopper shoppers are both hot topics. Would you recommend writing an article - one of the site's five >2000 word articles on a hot area of the hot topics? Or would you just stick to shoes topics?
If you do write on the hotter topics, how does the shoe store owner write on these - they're out of his area of expertise? Does he need a content writer?
-
I think you may be looking at your topics too broadly and perhaps without enough creativity. Who's never heard of the teenybopper who wanted to grow up to be a fashion model in high heel designer shoes? What shoe designer hasn't had a model who's little sister didn't want to grow up to be just like her? How many different ways can a teeny bopper save her dollars to buy those shoes she saw in the magazine at the grocery store? What teeny bopper doesn't have an opinion on the shoes her mom has in her closet or on the shoes her aunt bought her for her birthday? And what writer, worth their salt, couldn't write a tear-jerking, funny, or uplifting piece on any of those topics that that target audience that they wouldn't share among themselves?
This is the best part about Google freeing us from the oppression of the "keyword" and letting relevance be more categorical and thematic. Google's listening less intently on what we have to say about ourselves through our content and more so on what those in the social world are saying about us. This frees us to be more creative in the content that we create for our clients and lets us think more about creating content that our audience will engage with.
I think you're better off today writing about topics that are tangentially related to your niche and about ways your audience relates to those topics. I think audiences today are becoming dead tired of copy that has any scent of SEO and that they are more likely to click through to and engage with that which is fresh in it's perspective. Learn your audience, write stuff that they're going to like, and don't forget your back channels to algorithmic visibility--like structured data, authorship, co-citation, UGC, and, oh yeah, links.

I've always been of the opinion that is preferrable to write more focused articles which may deliver less traffic but extra sales than broad article which only gets you traffic with high bounces just because after reading the article the users don't find anything related to continue on your site. You'll need to write always content which will attract your customer they may buy today or in a month buth you need to attract them.
If you're on shoes market maybe you may find interesting writing an article about Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and city who loves have many shoes and write a fun article about how to build your shoe inventory with less than 1k dollars. Or maybe something about link your shoes to your personality or your daily mood.
I think that when it comes to write new content you don't have to focus only on what is actually been searched but you should try also to create new trends of search. Users are bombed with lots of similar contents about top keywords, so you may consider write really different and original and cool articles on those ones or if you don't have ideas is better to write a cool different article and spread it thrgough fashion blogs, this guys loves about speaking about new ideas and trends so try to anticipate them or give them the original thing they can poston their site.
Always focus on best content, then your traffic will arrive both on keywords and your branded/direct traffic.

What's a good way to find recent blog posts about a given topic?
Let's say I want to find blog posts posted in the past week or so about "key west". These posts could be on a personal blog, travel blog, etc. Google News is mostly news sites (not blogs) and Google blog search doesn't work any more. What other good options are there? So far Open site Explorer Just Discovered is the best option I've found, but there is a lot of other stuff mixed in with a few blog posts.

Duplicate Content In Webmaster Tools
In wordpress on some of our blogs when we have gone to publish them wordpress has shortened the url. In Google webmaster tools the orignal url is coming up as a 404 error. This url is not indexed in Google. Is this something to worry about and can this be avoided? Thank you in advance.

Will having duplicate content on four websites cause a problem?
A client of ours has four websites for different shops they run in the surrounding area. Each website has original content as well as duplicate content. This is for things like product advice which needs to be the same Will having duplicate content on these four websites cause a problem? How can it be mitigated? We can't refer the visitor to another website to get the product information as this will break the user experience, and of course shopping cart sessions will not pass on.

Outsourcing content creations
I am using odesk for outsourcing content creation, but i am finding it difficult to hire quality contractors. I am trying to use the fix rate is this is the main reason for getting low quality response for my job openings. Does quality contractor on Odesk prefer hourly rate? Is hourly rate is safe for client? Some of the contractors i hired has provided me the plagiarism content. I am keen to use Odesk for outsourcing but really getting nowhere with this. Suggestions and comments are highly appreciated. Thanks you all in advance.

Prevent average users from copying content and pasting into their websites
Please do not respond with a "you can't stop them" comment, I understand this. Most of our pages have content that is duplicated across multiple domains. The recent Google algorithm update focused on penalizing pages that have duplicate content, and it could be one of the reasons that we have been seeing traffic loss. I'm looking for some type of javascsript/php code that will help minimize this issue. If could be code that does not allow you to copy and paste the code without turning of javascript or a dialog box pops up and says "this content is copyright protected, anyone copying this content is subject to legal action" I've found one script that might work http://www.ioncube.com/html_encoder.php My questions are still the same: 1 What is the best method to achieve my objective? 2 Will this additional code affect how the webbots see our site and or affect rankings? I know that anyone can figure out how to get the code, I am trying to mitigate by providing a warning about copyright infringement and making it more challenging to copy our content. Please do not respond with a "you can't stop them" comment, etc, I understand this. Thank you for your comments!

Should I put the date on a new content page to show users when it was written or updated?
I've been asked this question at work and not certain of the answer. Personally if I see an 'old' date in a meta description on Google I often scan for more recent articles. In other words it can act as a deterrent. We are a very big social networking site with a large content section. For some of our content the date might be relevant, such as legal information, but often it isn't. Are there any SEO factors in dating content?

Getting Duplicated Content Removed
So I recently took over an in-house SEO role and began some house cleaning. I found a few places that had copied or duplicated our homepage content. Naturally I reached out to them to ask them to remove or change the content. Today I come to the office and one of the sites I had requested to remove the content, had fired back at me that I was being rude, threatening and I should go f**k myself. As if this wasn't enough this guys was an upper level manager (managing director) and knows the upper management where I work. Now I have people in my company pissed at me, when I thought I was doing the right thing. Am I in the wrong or what? I had simply asked to remove or change the content and that failure to do so could result in legal action. I understand that it could have been misconstrued as a threat (which it wasn't intended to be) but its seems like a pretty immature response from a higher level person. Any thoughts or advice on what to do next?
