On-page optimization - Am I doing it well?
-
Hi Mozzers,
I'm sitting here going through our site and optimizing all of our content.
For the most part we've just written without correct keyword research, so the content lacks focus. Here is a page I would consider finished - http://www.consumerbase.com/international-mailing-lists.html
I have our KWs in the:
- URL
- Title Tag
- Meta Description
- Bolded in Content
- Image Alt Attribute.
If I optimize my other pages like this, will I be good?
It feels a tiny bit stuffed to me, but SEOmoz's on-page tool gives me glowing numbers. Thanks!
-
Yes you should only have 1 H1 tag per page, I didn't realise the "International Mailing List" was the H1. As Market Stomper said, it was more about UX and separating the paragraphs.
-
This is correct - you are only supposed to have 1 x h1 tag on your page as this stipulates what the main header for your page is.
You could however mix it up with some h2 and h3 tags as it is ok to use multiple versions of these on any page....but use them in a hierachical order i.e. dont use h3 if you havent used h2 on the page, dont use h4 if you havent used a h2 & h3 etc.
-
I think it looks pretty good, and doesn't come across to spammy.
I can see your main heading at the top is a H1 tag, so that's enough on the H1 tag front.
You could squeeze in a H2 but only if you think it fits.
You could try some more semantic words which relate to each other such as 'international' and 'Global' or 'list' and 'database' but I think you might already have these in play.
-
I thought I was only supposed to have one h1 tag per page.
Is this not correct? -
Hi Zora,
I would agree with Karl, adding some H1, H2 tags into the flow of your content and link to other pages within your website would not just be good for SEO but the the user experience as well.
-
You've done a pretty good job there. I would suggest adding some H1's into your content as well and maybe some in-content linking too which can be good for users.

301 Redirect to Home Page or Sub-Page?
What do you think about 301 redirect of good expired domain to a sub-page instead of the home page? I'm doing this so I don't hurt my brand name. Let me know your thoughts please. Thank you

Why does Google display the home page rather than a page which is better optimised to answer the query?
I have a page which (I believe) is well optimised for a specific keyword (URL, title tag, meta description, H1, etc). yet Google chooses to display the home page instead of the page more suited to the search query. Why is Google doing this and what can I do to stop it?

500 and 508 pages?
Hi we just did a massive deepcrawl (using the tool deepcrawl.co.uk/) on the site: http://tinyurl.com/nu6ww4z http://i.imgur.com/vGmCdHK.jpg Which reported a lot of URLs as either 508 and 500 errors. For the URLs as reported as either 508 or 500 after the deep crawl crawl finished we put them directly into screaming frog and they all came back with status code 200. Could it be because Deep Crawl hammered the site and the server couldn't handle the load or something? Cheers, Chris

How to rank product pages?
Hi guys, Please advice me on something improving my product pages ranking. We are doing well for head terms, categories but not ranking for product pages. We have issues with product pages which I am think is hard to tackle. For instance we have duplicate products (different colors), duplicate content internally (colors) and from manufacturer websites. Product pages linked from sub-category i.e. Home > Category > Sub-Category (20 per page) using pagination for next 20 and so on. Product pages linked internally via widgets that says other Similar products, featured products etc. Another issue with our product pages is that we are using third party reviews platform and whenever users add reviews to product pages this platform creates an hyperlink to different anchors which is not relevant to product. Example - http://goo.gl/NUG652 Can somebody please give some advice on how to improve rankings for product pages. writing unique content for thousands of pages is not possible. Even our competitor not writing unique content.

Are these doorway pages?
I've added category pages for counties/town on http://www.top-10-dating-reviews.com but will google see these as doorway pages? If you click on categories from the menu at the top and view some of the pages you'll hopefully see what I mean? Should I continue building these or delete them? Any advice appreciated.

Should we deindex duplicate pages?
I work on an education website. We offer programs that are offered up to 6 times per year. At the moment, we have a webpage for each instance of the program, but that's causing duplicate content issues. We're reworking the pages so the majority of the content will be on one page, but we'll still have to keep the application details as separate pages. 90% of the time, application details are going to be nearly identical, so I'm worried that these pages will still be seen as duplicate content. My question is, should we deindex these pages? We don't particularly want people landing on our application page without seeing the other details of the program anyway. But, is there problem with deindexing such a large chunk of your site that I'm not thinking of? Thanks, everyone!

How can we optimize content specific to particular tabs, but is loaded on one page?
Hi, Our website generates stock reports. Within those reports, we organize information into particular tabs. The entire report is loaded on one page and javascript is used to hide and show the different tabs. This makes it difficult for us to optimize the information on each particular tab. We're thinking about creating separate pages for each tab, but we're worried about affecting the user experience. We'd like to create separate pages for each tab, put links to them at the bottom of the reports, and still have the reports operate as they do today. Can we do this without getting in trouble with Google for having duplicate content? If not, is there another solution to this problem that we're not seeing? Here's a sample report: http://www.vuru.co/analysis/aapl In advance, thanks for your help!
