Should I change .html to / ?
-
On my ecommerce site, we have .html extensions on all files and categories.
I was wondering if it is worth the development cost to make all of them / ?
Is there any SEO benefit in doing so?
Thanks,
B

Thanks again Mike...
Our URL structure I think meets Google's requirements - but there is yet no breadcrumbs appearing... does that appear depeding on domain reputation?
-
In many cases, most websites will redirect a trailing slash to the non-trailing slash version, but it all depends on your configuration. Here is some info from Google Webmaster Central on the subject.
I think what you are looking for is breadcrumb rich snippets.
Hope this helps.

Yes, that makes sense thank you. Although I have read on some of this forum that a forward slash helps rank better?
I also thought that by doing slashes in the URL, Google may have added those special links underneath the listing

Hi B,
If I am understanding your question correctly, there is no SEO benefit in what you are suggesting.
For instance if you are suggesting changing www.domain.com/topic.html to www.domain.com/topic that will not make any SEO difference.
The main reason for people removing the extension is that it looks cleaner/friendlier. Also, if you were to switch your platform/CMS, you would be able to continue to use the same URL if you do not use an extension.
Does that make sense?
Mike

Domain Change Of Address & Sale
Hi Moz community Let's say I have two domains www.domain1.com www.domain2.com domain1 is my main website. Domain 2 was a peripheral side project I was working on. I recently decided to shut it down. So I hooked up the proper 301s and filed a change of address request with Google Webmaster tools. I have had an offer for someone to purchase domain2 - I have absolutely no use for it and would like to sell it. I just want first to figure out that: I can do this without losing any ranking to my main site. I can disassociate this domain from myself and my Company completely. I don't want any of the work we put into it to transfer to the new owner. How can I do this? thanks!

OK to change the anchor text of a link?
I have built a link on behalf of a ciient in a long, well-written article on a reputable website that accepts contributor accounts. I therefore control the link. I have since realised that the anchor text of the link could be optimized much better than it currently is (while still only being a partial match). Would I be punished by the algorithm for going in and changing the link? I know it's not 100% "natural," but then we're SEOs, and i don't think it's too implausible that a website owner may go in and do the same... Maybe if I add some text as well, it would make things look more natural?

Is all duplication of HTML title content bad?
In light of Hummingbird and that HTML titles are the main selling point in SERPs, is my approach to keyword rich HTML titles bad? Where possible I try to include the top key phrase to descripe a page and then a second top keyphrase describing what the company/ site as a whole is or does. For instance an estate agents site could consist of HTML title such as this Buy Commercial Property in Birmingham| Commercial Estate Agents Birmingham Commercial Property Tips | Commercial Estate Agents In order to preserve valuable characters I have also been omitting brand names other than on the home page... is this also poor form?

How do I change HTML title, and add H1 tags with Volusion? and why is it so hard!?!?! wordpress is WAYY better.
So I could go in depth with this and tell you all about the problems I have encountered with Volusion... but i'm not. I just need to help a client change the 7,000 product pages they have that have duplicated title tags, and no H1 tags. (probably one of the worst case of On-Page SEO set ups ever right? Shouldn't Volusion be built to help you do these types of essentials easily? Or (for the price) even better would be to do it automatically based on the product name??)

Change to SiteLinks?
Hi All, Perhaps it's been like this all along (I don't think so) but can someone tell me why some pages with Google sitelinks now look like this (see the "Coke" search) while others look like this (see the "Amazon" search image). Is this because of Rich Snippet use? One of my client's SiteLinks used to resemble the Amazon one, but now resembles the Coke one (not preferred). Any input? Thanks, Chris Elevated Synergy Group - SEO coke.png amazon.png

How to quickly up your PA/DA?
Okay people, so far i've actually tried a lot of things and analised a lot of data provided by SEOMoz and i already made a lot of changes. Still one of my competitors stands on the number 1 position in Google. Their page ranks F for the keyword and my page ranks A. I can only come to the conclusion that there is another part that plays his part here. So i basicly found this informatie: Page Grade: My site: Grade A Competitor: Grade F Page Authority (PA): My site: 49/100 Competitor: 62/100 Domain Authority (DA): My Site: 39/100 Competitor: 55/100 Total Links: My Site: 1188 Competitor: 8250 FB Shares: My Site: 15 Competitor: 14 FB Likes: My Site: 2 Competitor: 1 Tweets: My Site:6 Competitor: 7 Google+: My Site: 3 Competitor: 0 I already made some adjustments to my facebook fan page so it can recieve more likes then before. I think the main issue is located in the PA en DA factors. What do you guys think and what could i do to quickly increase my PA en DA factor (PA is the most important one i think). hope to hear from you soon

Strategies to compete with a new domain/site
Hi all, What would be ( highlights ) your strategy in order to rank and compete with a new domain against competitors that have an average of 50% domain authority and around 2000 root domain linking to them, if you would start with a completely new website/domain? How long would you estimate the new site to be competitive? In the retail area. Working on it a month full time I would go with On page SEO off course, detailling each products and building the internal link structure Get back links, backlinks, backlinks and... backlinks... Build the social media network feed a blog Thanks for your input Considering working on the site for a month full time, I would estimate a ranking after a month or 2 although the competitions very high. Your thoughts ?

Should we block urls like this - domainname/shop/leather-chairs.html?brand=244&cat=16&dir=ascℴ=price&price=1 within the robots.txt?
I've recently added a campaign within the SEOmoz interface and received an alarming number of errors ~9,000 on our eCommerce website. This site was built in Magento, and we are using search friendly url's however most of our errors were duplicate content / titles due to url's like: domainname/shop/leather-chairs.html?brand=244&cat=16&dir=asc&order=price&price=1 and domainname/shop/leather-chairs.html?brand=244&cat=16&dir=asc&order=price&price=4. Is this hurting us in the search engines? Is rogerbot too good? What can we do to cut off bots after the ".html?" ? Any help would be much appreciated 🙂
