Agreed, I shouldn't have left them off.

Great recommendations, Brad.
I'd add in searchengineland.com as well and look into presentations from the SMX conferences as sources.

My short answer would be to use the SEOmoz toolset to uncover some of your basic issues and work to correct them. From there I would start working on developing and building content on your site that can earn links. Earning links will require a significant amount of outreach to raise awareness about your content. I would also encourage you to focus on the user and what is good for them above your own thoughts about SEO. It is a delicate balance but building things just for SEO is never a good solution.
Here are some things I would encourage you to look at
- All Whiteboard Friday's
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/category/whiteboard-friday
- All recent Matt Cutts videos from the google webmaster youtube page
http://www.youtube.com/user/GoogleWebmasterHelp/videos?view=0
- If it is in the budget grab a ticket to mozcon in July
Hope this helps.
Brad

Need help with best practices on eliminating old thin content blogs.
We have about 100 really old blog posts that are nothing more than a short trip review w/ images. Consequently these pages are poor quality. Would best practices be to combine into one "review page" per trip, reducing from 100 to about 10 better pages and implement redirects? Or is having more pages better with less redirects? We only have about 700 pages total. Thanks for any input!

Natural Fluctuation in Search Traffic
This is going to sound like a weird question... I'm curious to know whether there is a natural fluctuation in the actual number of searches being made online each week. It would be great to relate this to the performance of my own organic traffic each week. For example, if organic search traffic is down 10% week on week, is that because search in general is down 10%? Has anybody ever looking into this?

Link-building best SEO practice (one-off VS periodic blogging)
Hi all, Generally, what would be best when building a website's ranking through link building? Having the same links from the same bloggers or receiving new links from different bloggers every time? A lot of the SEO services offer 4-8 blog backlinks per month. Would it be best if these links came from different sources every time or most from the same sources each month? I know there's a lot of factors but I hope this question is clear. Happy holidays and thank you for your insightful feedback. Carlos

Optimizing WordPress Pages With List of Posts
A friend of mine has published a new site called www.localsguidesa.com. It is an informational/review site about a resort town. Most of my experience has been dealing with single html pages. In the case of this site, the main "money keyword" pages are mainly an introduction of text followed by a list and snipped of blog posts such as this page http://localsguidesa.com/what-to-see-do/attractions which would target St Augustine Attractions. Would she be better off making the main pages with more content and less blog posts? How would ranking be affected with all the preview blog posts on the page? The strategy is for the blog posts to rank on the longer tail keywords...such as "Top 10 Attractions in St Augustine ", but what suggestions would you have for a main navigation page such as http://localsguidesa.com/what-to-see-do/attractions

Puzzling drop in search referrals.
Hello All, A few weeks ago I posted in the Q and A believing I had received a google penalty due to a sudden and considerable drop in referrals... http://www.seomoz.org/q/google-penalty-8 ... so I dug right to the bottom of my site and did a complete review of all my links. After clearing all the potentially problematic links, I wrote a very descriptive reconsideration request to google. 10 days or so later I received a 'no manual spam action found' response, which I guess is a good thing but now begs the question- what has gone wrong!? Over the past 4 or 5 months I've been doing some heavy work on the SEO of my site, www.madegood.org. This has all been white hat stuff (as far as I'm aware), and have been using my seomoz pro account to monitor progress. I've done lots of reading on the subject so think I'm up to scratch on most general good advice, in terms of link building and site structure. I've always tried to create very high quality content and have been building some great links from very authoritative sites including The Guardian newspaper and Sheffield University. My pro dashboard is telling me that my link analysis history is improving, despite my keyword performance declining. Is there anyone that can do a deep review of my site? I'm happy to share my analytics/webmaster tools etc info with you if that is helpful? I'm totally lost here and am becoming disheartened with all the hard work I've been putting into the SEO for my site. Thanks so much in advance, any help is gratefully received. Of course I can provide more info should you need it. Will

Do i need to set up a reverse proxy?
Ahoy all, just through another audit - we have a terrible CMS which is ecommerce based only which doesnt allow us to blog or write much content, we have our blog as a seperate WP in our ftp panel and comes up as www.palicomp.co.uk/blog and our site is www.palicomp.co.uk - my question is do i need to set up a reverse proxy so this is classed as one site and my blog provides more value or would it only matter if it was set up as blog.palicomp.co.uk? Many thanks, Chris

Over Optimization - Where is the limit?
Hi All, Lately its been discussed a lot about the various penalties and the one that is least clear to me is over optimization. I'm currently dealing with my site's sub-folders naming. My site sells computers yet the domain name has nothing to do with computers. The question is should I put computers in every folder name? Examples: domain.com/surveys/xxx VS domain.com/computer-surveys/xxx domain.com/Questions/xxx VS domain.com/Computers-Questions/xxx and domain.com/Education/xxx VS domain.com/computers-education/xxx Where is the limit?
