I have a 404 error on my site i can't find.
-
I have looked everywhere.
I thought it might have just showed up while making some changes, so while in webmaster tools i said it was fixed.....It's still there. Even moz pro found it.
error is http://mydomain.com/mydomain.com
No idea how it even happened. thought it might be a plugin problem.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Well i am testing a couple things.
1. i change a link on my site to an existing page.
2. i deleted a "coming soon plugin that in not using.
3. i deleted an older sitemap i found in my ftp file manager.
If none of this works then i have no idea what the problem is and will have to start eliminating plugins i guess.
thank you all for the help,
-
Perhaps you set the link to mydomain.com rather than http:mydomain.com and your setup has prefixed with the domain.
ScreamingFrog is good.

couldnt find it with open site but i did find it with screaming frog.
but i already knew what it was.
I have a button on my home page that currently didnt have anywhere to go so i linked it back to my homepage. not sure if that was the problem but i have change it to link to an existing page and will see what happens.
thank you for the help
if that fixes it i will let you know.

Crawl the site with screaming frog. It will ref in linking page.
-
Thank you
I will give it a try and let you know.

Hi Nathan,
Search on Open Site explorer the page and see if you can find where it is being linked from. Then you can go and update it and also 301 redirect the page to your homepage as an additional safety net for any links missed.
Hope this helps!

We just can't figure out the right anchor text to use
We have been trying everything we can with anchor text. We have read here that we should try naturalistic language. Our competitors who are above us in Google search results don't do any of this. They only use their names or a single term like "austin web design". Is what we are doing hurting our listings? We don't have any black hat links. Here's what we are doing now. We are going crazy trying to figure this out. We are afraid to do anything in fear it will damage our position. Bob | pallasart web design | 31 | 1,730 |

Can view pages of site, but Google & SEOmoz return 404
I can visit and view every page of a site (can also see source code), but Google, SEOmoz and others say anything other than home page is a 404 and Google won't index the sub-pages. I have check robots.txt and HTAccess and can't find anything wrong. Is this a DNS or server setting problem? Any ideas? Thanks, Fitz

Can 404 results from external links hurt site ranking?
Hello, I'm helping a university transition to a brand new website. In some cases the URLs will change between the old site and new site. They will put 301 redirects in place to make sure that people who have old URLs will get redirected properly to the new URLs. However they also have a bunch of old pages that they aren't using anymore. They don't really care if people still try to get to them (because they don't think many will), but they do care about the overall search engine rankings. I know that if a site has internal 404 links, that could hurt rankings. However can external links that return a 404 hurt rankings? Ryan

How do you find bad links to your site?
My website has around 900 incoming links and I have a Google 50 penalty that is sitewide. I have been doing research and from what I can see is that the 50 penalty is usually associated with scetchy links. The penalty started last year. I had about 40 related domains to my main site and each had a simple one page site with a link to the main site. (I know I screwed up) I cleaned up all of those links by removing them. The single page site still exist, but they have no links and several of them still rank very well. I also had an outside SEO person that bought a few links. I came clean with Google and told them everything. I gave them all of my sites and that the SEO person had bought links. I gave them full disclosure and removed everything. I have one site that I can't get the link removed from. I have contacted them numerous times to remove the link and I get no response. I am curious if anyone has had a simular experience and how they corrected the situation. Another issue is that my site is "thin" because its an ecommerce affiliate site and full of affiliate links. I work in the costume market. I'm also afraid that I have other bad links pointing to my site. Dooes anyone know of a tool to identify bad links that Google may be penalizing me for at this time. Here is Google's latest denial of my reconsideration request. Dear site owner or webmaster of XXXXXXXXX.com. Title Tag won't update
The Home page Title Tag on my Wordpress CMS Website doesn't update. It has the Thesis Theme and All in One SEO plugin. I've updated it exactly the same on the Home page, for SEO plugin, and in the Thesis Theme - but still it displays the old one.. The site was last cached about a week ago - 3X since I've been attempting to change it. The other page's Title Tags update instantly when updated, but not the Home page. I've been digging for a solution and can't seem to find an answer. What could be the problem? (www.austinfitnessgyms.com -It should be: Austin Gym | Kickboxing in Austin | Impact MMA Fitness)
