Ranking dropped significantly
-
We have been doing SEO optimization based on SEOMoz reco. However, our page ranking for key words dropped significantly last night.. We used to be on page 3 but now could not even found it on top 20 pages. Not sure what happened last night. I checked google webmaster tool but did not find anything. Can you help?
-
Honestly you are most likely having a Penguin Issue. Penguin is known to affect certain keywords, but not all. I would take that mindset and go from there.
-
Thank you! I saw the loss of links. But I am still puzzled why our site is not even listed on top 20 pages. The FAQ, which does not have any backlinks, is even listed on page 10.

You have recently lost a ton of backlinks to your site this month. 400 roughly since April 23rd especially from swansonheritage.com
Also look at your link diversity

Thank you very much! The following link will take you to our home page. http://tinyurl.com/yfc4dka
Our key words are "private tutor", "Private tutors"
-
When I search the name of our site, we are still no 1.. Meaning google still indexed us.
-
When I search key words above, I can not find our home page among top 20. But our FAQ page on page 10 and blog page on page 15.
-
When I search private chemistry tutor, our page dedicated to that category is still on page 1.
So is there any bad links associated Private Tutor and Private Tutors?
-
-
Yeah I didn't mean it was simple to recover, but simple to discover rather. I'm well aware of the difficulties, believe me.

I wouldn't say it simple

Bad links are going to take some research. What you need to do is find all the back links you currently have, double check the other domains too. Don't assume they are clean even though you just bought them. Someone still could have owned them in the past.
Once can get your back links from several places. Check them all!
- Google Webmaster Tools
- AHrefs.com
- http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/ which is SEOMOZ's
Then you should use the SEOMOZ extension for your browser (I prefer Chrome) which can give you an "estimate" of the trust of those links (I say estimate because nothing is certain, visit each link and look at it yourself.)
If it looks like spam, smells like spam...it must be spam - akums razor

I'm trying to learn more about this 2.0 Penguin action. The only way to do so is research. Can you please supply us with your domain? We may be able to help further that way anyhow..
To research your link profile, first you need a tool such as Open Site Explorer or ahrefs.
From there, it's simple.
-
Hi Cesar, thank you! Those domains should be clean as nobody used those before.
1) I changed back to 302 on those sites
- How can I check if my site have bad links?
-
There are a few issues with this, just depends how you are doing it
What did you do with these other domains. Is there content on the site and links point to your other site, or does the domain name simply redirect to that domain?
Did you check the back link profile on these new domains you purchased. If they had black hat associated with them and you 301 to your site, you just got infected You need to research those old domains you just bought and make sure they are clean. If not then you are going to have to clean them up or get rid of the 301
Did the rankings drop after you 301'd the domains? Get rid of the 301's and see what happens to your rankings. If they come back those domains are spammy
Either way you most likely got hit with Penguin 2.0 which means there is something spammy associated with either the old domains or yours. Don't assume just because you haven't done anything black hat that there anything spammy about your site. There are many innocent ways to do black hat.
Always double check with Google's Quality Guidelines
-
Thanks! But my site did not use any black hat SEO.. The only thing we did is that we bought a few domains with different names and redirect them to our home page visa 301. Does that affect?

How do I mprove site visibility and keyword ranking for new product site
Hi, Sorry if this is a ridiculous post as I am really new to SEO, but I haven't had this problem with other sites! We had a website www.r-dna.co.uk that was never promoted or used very much as it was early days in the product lifecycle. The product (is called R-DNA or Remote Data Network Analysis) is now live so we re-branded and re-launched the site - it has now been live since the beginning of September but we still only have 0.35% visibility and very little ranking in our keywords. We are also using Google Adwords to try and generate business and have registered with numerous online business directories. I have been blogging to update content, tweeting and updating our facebook page, but we still aren't getting the traffic or visibility increases that we have experienced with our other sites. The MOZ site crawl shows 5 medium priority issues (duplicate title page & missing meta description tag), but no major issues. I know its probably fairly early days for a "new" site, but wondered if anyone could advise if there is anything wrong which would explain our lack of visibility.

Why would I be ranking for a term when it's not anywhere in my page or pages linking to it?
Hi, I have a keyword that's not anywhere in my page in page-grade tool nor are any pages linking to it with that term, why would that be ranking. The term is "dynamic card solution" This is a company we used to have 5 years ago and merged with our company. This term is ranking #1 for this page- http://www.datacard.com/instant-issuance-solutions . I can't figure why that would be even as this is a newer page in the past year. Thanks for any insight as I'm newer to moz. Laura

Complex Rankings Issue For A Law Firm Site
Be warned, this is a complex issue that I have and will require someone who has some advanced knowledge about 301s and link penalty’s. I have a law firm client whose site is having some issues. There are some very complex details here so I'm going to articulate them in bullet points in hopes of making the issues easy to understand. So here's my root problem: We have poor organic rankings (4th, 5th, 6th page for most terms) despite Domain Authority of 32 (avg. 1st page competitor is 28) and some very strong white hat link building the last 60 days or so. How's their backlink profile look, you ask? When you look at their backlink profile in OSE, their spam score is a 1/17 (not sure if that's credible in any way). Lot's of links that score 5's on the spam score make up about 10% of their OSE links. Here’s where it gets tricky; those links are not directed the client's New URL, they are links that go to some old URLs the client used to have, for which they had an SEO guy who built all those crappy links. Those URLs with the crappy links (we'll call them The Crappy URLs) were 301'd (can we all agree 301'd is a verb?) to the NEW URL for just a couple of months. Shortly after that, NEW URL dropped almost completely out of Google, so the client turned off the 301s. So despite those 301s being turned off, OSE still shows all the links going to The Crappy URLs but is giving The New URL credit for them. Keep in mind, the 301s were turned off about 6 months ago so it’s a little strange that OSE still shows those 301s. This has led me to the conclusion that the Domain Authority that OSE shows of 32, is not a “real” number since it is seemingly based off links inherited from 301s that no longer exist. So now I’m trying to create an action plan for this client that will hopefully help us start to make some real progress in our rankings. This client does not have the budget to wait another 6 months for some sign of hope so time is of the essence. Here’s my theoretical action plans I’m choosing from and would like the communities input on which, if any, they feel is best (Also, if I’m missing something or you have an idea, I’m all ears): **Potential Action Plans: ** Do nothing, keep building quality links, creating quality content, monitor crawl reports/gwt for issues. That strategy is going to win long term. #1 + Create one page sites on The Crappy URLs, setup GWT for them, submit sitemaps thus forcing Google, OSE and other web crawlers to index them, thus removing any potential residual penalties from the 301s. NOTE: Currently The Crappy URLS are just landing on GoDaddy’s default landing page which is of course not being indexed by Google or OSE. #2 + Disavow all the bad links going to The Crappy URLS. Then once the bad links no longer appear in the OSE profile for each of The Crappy Sites, 301 them again, thus inheriting the good links but not the bad. #1 + 301 the Crappy URLS back to the New URL, while also disavow any links going to The Crappy URLs. The logic here is that if the road back to recovery is going to be a few months away no matter what, when the 301 knocked them back 6 months ago no reputable link building was being done. I am cautiously optimistic the linkbuilding we are doing will eventually off set any penalty’s coming from the 301s. Plus now we’ll know the 32 Domain Authority OSE is giving us is real. This is the one I’m leaning towards quite frankly because I think it will reduce the recovery time and we’ll know somewhat quickly (30-60 days) if it’s actually working. 1-3 could each take 90 days before we know if it’s working. So please, if you have any expertise with any of this, your help or advice would be appreciated. I’d rather not share The New URL for obvious reasons but if you must know, simply message me and as long as you’re legit, I’ll share it with you.

Discrepancy between the Moz Trust Number and Chart, same thing for Moz rank.
I am showing a difference between my Moz rank and Moz Trust Number and their respective charts. Is anyone else seeing this issue?

My Google Keyword Rankings are Missing. Anyone else having this problem?
I logged in to pull my reports for my clients and noticed that I am missing all of my ranked keywords for my campaigns for the Google columns. One word is ranked. All the rest have a TUES sign that looks like it references Tuesday. Is anyone else having this issue? I had over 30 words ranked last week. Only showing 1 today. The rankings for Bing and Yahoo are intact though. There is no report showing a decline in ranking for all those words either (in the google column.) This is also happening in another campaign of mine but they have a WEDS in place of the google ranking... ugh Frustrated...

SEOmoz campaign - keyword rankings...
Hi there, I have a quick question: Does it make a difference if I add keywords to a campaign with the '[' and ']' brackets included? I just realized that I had copy/pasted many of my keywords from the exported CSV from the Google AdWords Keyword Tool and I fear that the keyword rankings on SEOmoz might factor the brackets as part of the keywords themselves. Thanks in advance! Ben

How does moztrust compare with google page rank?
I have a trial Seomoz membership. I've been comparing my site to some of the competitor websites and Im confused about the moztrust vs google page rank. For instance some of my competitors have higher moztrust but my site has a higher google page rank. Isn't moztrust meant to duplicate google pagerank?? Why would these vary so much?

Is the SEOMOZ rank checker accounting for the mega sitelinks?
Just curious if the SEOMOZ rank checker accounts for the mega sitelinks? Are this counted as separate listings (which would in effect make it report a lower serp position) or are they bundled up with the first result and considered as #1 spot? Thanks
