Citation Building + Citations in Text
-
Hi,
One curiosity led to another and hence I have a couple of questions which I am not sure if they are related or not.
1. What is citation building, what value does it have and what is the best way to go about it?
The above question came up whilst trying to find information for my next question.
2. Do 'citation' HTML attributes in the text content of my web pages have any value for SEO. These citations are where you highlight a word and then add a kind of alt text tag to it that appears when you hover your mouse over the relevant text. The HTML for it looks like this.
<cite title="is a reference to a published or unpublished source">Citation</cite>
3. Should I be using 'title' attributes rather than 'citation' attributes?
Thanks

#1. "Citation building" refers to something completely different than #2 citation. It is typically used in local seo marketing for local businesses. In this case, a citation is a business mention. More specifically, it involves the business's Name, Address, Phone (NAP). Citation building helps build authority to local businesses online. They work like traditional link building, but without the link necessarily being required, meaning the search engines can recognize the signal as being a mention about that specific business. It can help any business with a physical address, especially ones that want local customers from a specific geography.
#2. Proper coding of citations using the cite attribute is the correct thing to do when referencing the title of someone else's work, regardless of SEO value. Having said that, just having a "cite" element by itself may not add much SEO value. It may however help enhance the impact of certain co-citations which are becoming more important, but that is a completely different topic (not to confuse the issue;-)
#3. They are different elements used for different purposes that are pretty well defined, so you have to decide case by case.

Different text position on mobile and desktop page
Hi there, We have product category descriptions in our webshop, with one smal difference: desktop: the first paragraf is at the top above the products with a scroll down to the other paragrafs below the products mobile: the whole text is below the products I am wondering whether it is allright in regards of the mobile first index, or should we have exactly the same paragraf split on the desktop and mobile version? Eg. dadum.pl/zabawki Thanks in advance for your opinions. Isabelle

Does Disavowing Links Negate Anchor Text, or Just Negates Link Juice
I'm not so sure that disavowing links also discounts the anchor texts from those links. Because nofollow links absolutely still pass anchor text values. And disavowing links is supposed to be akin to nofollowing the links. I wonder because there's a potential client I'm working on an RFP for and they have tons of spammy directory links all using keyword rich anchor texts and they lost 98% of their traffic in Pengiun 1.0 and haven't recovered. I want to know what I'm getting into. And if I just disavow those links, I'm thinking that it won't help the anchor text ratio issues. Can anyone confirm?

Link Building And Anchor Text Placement
Hi everyone, I can't seem to find a concrete answer on how anchor text is going, so I'm hoping you all can shed some light on it. We were asked to do a few guest blog posts, and I wanted to figure out what's the most effective way to use the backlinks. Granted, I know user experience is most important, but since we have control over the topic, I can tailor it so that won't be a problem. Other than user experience, how should I approach it? Things I'm considering: 1. Should I use branded text or keyword text? Kemp & Ruge Law Group vs car accident attorney? I've seen some reports of exact match anchor text causing some penalties, but I'm thinking that's for like thousands of links. We barely have any. 2. Should we point the links to our homepage to help our domain authority or to the page with the keyword phrase we want to rank higher? Thanks, Ruben

Scrolling Text Old School SEO and hidden index page
We have taken over a site and now find our self looking at the homepage of the site which has hidden scrolling text. A old school way of adding text without leaving loads of paragraphs. I have also removed all links to the index.htm page but somewhere visitors are still coming to this page in there droves. I am considering using a canonical url code but I would rather nip it in the bud. Would love some feedback from some other experts here is the site - http://www.radiatorcentre.com You never stop learning in seo and maybe we can all learn from this example. Thanks

Do you think video syndication is a good link building tactic?
I am creating a process & strategy for publishing videos and would like some feedback on if it is worth syndicating the videos on multiple third party sites either manually or via TubeMogul. Currently the plan is to put the video on our main site, create a video sitemap, submit to webmaster tools so that hopefully the videos on our site show up in the SERPs. Then wait a week and syndicate on third party sites such as youtube, vimeo, viddler, etc. Are there any negative side affects? My thinking is that some people may only see the video if it is on youtube and the other niche sites because they may search those sites for videos rather than Google/Bing. Your thoughts?
