Site not coming up even when I search with the .com
-
We have a customer whose site: http://camilojosevergara.com doesn't show up even when you search for his exact domain. http://bit.ly/18RjPPX
Wondering why that is. Is it because wikipedia and the other links rank higher? I've submitted his sitemap to google so I'm trying to figure out why its not showing up.
Any tips/recommendations to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

the forum you are posting on was created on the backbone of the software used to examine backlinks.
as per the rest of your questions.. you're on the right path. let's see how we can keep you moving along said path:

Hi Everett -
thanks for the info. Can you link me to or elaborate on these topics "link profile, disavow links and file a re-inclusion request."
when I view source I'm not seeing any drug spam links in the body tag: http://chrle.us/PSV0
what would you recommend to get it indexed ASAP?
-
Hi Jesse -
thanks for the tips. How did you check the backlinks to the site? Also regarding 3 how do you check for the unnatural link penalty?
thanks
-
good catch on the body tag. not sure that would cause google to ignore all else but i'd be curious to know this..
As for the lack of redirects, I didn't mean to imply that this would be causing the site to not be indexed. I meant that as a separate issue I noticed when briefly researching the site.
Just wanted to clear that up. Nonetheless, it should be dealt with. While Google can differentiate which site to index, it most definitely splits up your link juice and causes diminished PR/DA.

Hello Erik,
I did notice two beginning and ending body tags in the source code. Search for this in View Source:
Hello
That would mean the only content on the page is "Hello" if Google was to be paying attention to that body tag instead of the other one.
I seriously doubt www Vs non-www would keep your site from being indexed. This is one of those really minor issues that Google does a really great job of handling 99% of the time.
I'm inclined to agree with Jesse that the site has been removed from the index due to the spammy links: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=camilojosevergara.com
That is a bigger topic than we can cover here but you can start by looking into how to clean up your link profile, disavow links and file a re-inclusion request.
-
Pretty sure I can get this indexed for you Erik (and still not sure why you don't PM me on Facebook with these Qs first. lol)
Just took a screenshot now with site:www.camilojosevergara.com not showing indexed. Will check again in a bit.
My best guess at this is the duplicate content is making Google choose not to bother indexing it.
"What duplicate content?"
http://behindthescenes.nyhistory.org/tracking-time/
Since the whole website is on one line (according to view source in Chrome) Google likely believes that the entirety of the nyhistory.org site has been scraped. Either a) they just didn't index it or b) it's possibly banned if it was previously in the index.

I am outsider to this question, sorry. But it got interesting. I want to know one would do this
"1.) This site does not have any redirects in place. There are essentially duplicates of ever page existing for the www and non-www versions respectively. This is a problem that should be addressed immediately"
Is there a best practice to this. I had a similar problem with www. and non www. Supposedly the technical person solved this issue.
-
One last thing.. Consider this for your search query's URL: http://www.google.com/search?&q=camilojosevergara.com&pws=0
The &pws=0 at the end is very important for any SEO who wants to see real SERPs
-
Okay couple things here:
1.) This site does not have any redirects in place. There are essentially duplicates of ever page existing for the www and non-www versions respectively. This is a problem that should be addressed immediately.
2.) What are the target keywords? Because looking at the shady back-link profile it would seem that this is a site that sells Propranolol without a prescription. There are TONS of backlinks coming into this site with that in the anchor text. Did your client ever use this domain for something else or buy it from someone else?
3.) Check Google's Webmaster Tools. I'm willing to bet that there is a unnatural link penalty notice sitting in there. Penguin will hit a site like this, but usually won't remove it entirely. This site looks like it has a manually imposed penalty looming. It's a bit of a disaster and if it were my site and I were the photographer I'd consider finding a new domain name and starting over.
4.) Out of curiosity, when you say "we have a customer.." what exactly do you mean and what kind of business do you work for? What is your specialty? That I'm just wondering to satisfy my own curiosity and you're welcome to disregard this question.
Hope this helps.

not in flash. view source on it. Its HTML 5
thanks
-
Hi Erik,
Is the website ALL in flash?
If so, Google cannot read SWF files and can only read text (And alt tags, meta data etc.) I checked the page source and found this:
There are no keywords set and there is no meta description.
I can only assume the missing meta data as well as the website being completely made in flash is what is stopping Google from crawling your website and adding it to the SERP.
I believe there is a way in which you make a "copy" of your website in a text version for search engines to read (Hopefully another member can point you in the right direction for that).
All I can recommend is not to make websites in flash. In my opinion (and it's only my opinion) is that flash is dead. And the beautiful things you used to be able to do in flash, you can no do even better in Ajax and other javascript as well as having fully readable websites by search engines!
Hope this answer is of some help to you!

Search visibility degrading gradually
We have several web pages with the same structure released in several countries. Each website contains information about spam callers in the country the website has been released for. Now I have the problem that I see a slow degradation of search traffic in the US. The UK website on the other hand is doing quite well, actually improving. According to MOZ our mobile search visibility dropped significantly in the last week and I am at the moment not able to pin this down. Can anyone please give me a hint at what data best to analyze to find the source of this problem? TIA Best

Why are these blackhat sites so successful?
Here's an interesting conundrum. Here are three sites with their respective ranking for "dental implants [city]:" http://dentalimplantsvaughan.ca - 9 (on google.ca) http://dentalimplantsinhonoluluhi.com - 2 (on google.com) http://dentalimplantssurreybc.ca - 7 (on google.ca) These markets are not particularly competitive, however, all of these sites suffer from: Duplicate content, both internally and across sites (all of this company's implant sites have the same exact content, minus the bio pages and the local modifier). Average speed score. No structured data No links And these sites are ranking relatively quickly. The Vaughan site went live 3 months ago. But, what's boggling my mind is that they rank on the first page at all. It seems they're doing the exact opposite of what you're supposed to do, yet they rank relatively well.

Similar pages on a site
Hi I think it was at BrightonSEO where PI DataMetrics were talking about similar pages on a website can cause rankings to drop for your main page. This has got me thinking. if we have a category about jumpers so: example.com/jumpers but then our blog has a category about jumpers, where we write all about jumpers etc which creates a category page example.com/blog/category/jumpers, so these blog category pages have no index put on them to stop them ranking in Google? Thanks in Advance for any tips. Andy

Any ideas why this site is being penalized?
http://www.my-french-house.com/ has been online since around 2004 and has nearly always been in the top 10 serps for terms like 'property for sale in france'. However, over the last 12 months we've been hit really hard by Google and have fallen dramatically in rank. Can anyone give any insight into what may have happened? As an aside, we've had no message in the Google Webmaster Console and have not contacted Google about the apparent penalty / penalization. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Jim

Mobile site is not ranking in the mobile search results
I posted last month about problems with a mobile site, which is served from a separate URL (m.mydomain.com) as currently responsive design is not an option. The problem was that the mobile site was being returned in the desktop index along with the desktop site, and the desktop site was being returned in the mobile index instead of the mobile site. I have therefore implemented rel=canonical and rel=alternate as is advised by Google, but this has stopped the desktop site from appearing in the mobile index, but hasn't caused the mobile site to rank instead. What should I do now? One idea I have is to remove the rel=canonical and rel=alternate links so that the desktop site ranks in the mobile index again. There is a redirect in place anyway so when people click on a desktop link from a mobile search, they will still be redirected to the mobile equivalent. I could then set the m.mydomain.com to noindex to stop it from being returned in the desktop results and potentially causing duplicate content issues? What do you think about this as a work around?

Site Blacklisted
Good morning. Just done my WMT ritual morning check and one of my sites has been blacklisted for malware. It's a wordpress site - I've run various scans, e.g. http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/ and also installed wordfence and scanned with that and wordfence produced some offending files which I have now deleted. I've also installed website defender in the hope that it wont happen again. I'm pretty good with staying on top of updates and rarely let a few days pass without upgrading new version of wordpress or plugins etc. I've also checked my users to make sure no new admins or anything and also changes passwords. I've asked for a review from Google and just wondered how long these reviews take? Also, has anybody got any advice, is there anything else I should be doing? Thanks

For large sites, best practices for pages hidden behind internal search?
If a website has 1M+ pages, with most of them being hidden behind an internal search, what's the best way to get pages included in an engine's index? Does a direct clickpath to those pages need to exist from the homepage or other major hub pages on the site? Is submitting an XML sitemap enough?

Should I create mini-sites with keyword rich domain names pointing to my main site?
Hi, I'm new to seomoz (and seo in general) and loving it so far. My main domain name is more of a brandname than a search engine friendly list of keywords. I rank well for some keywords I optimized for, and less so for the more competitive keywords. I was wondering if making one page minisites hosted on keyword rich domain names could help in this respect? What I want to do is just have a single page with a few paragraphs of content and links to the main site. I am not looking for links to boost the main site, just for the minisites to do better for several keywords. Will this help? Is this ok, or against some Google policy? Can this hurt the main site rankings? Thank you! **Edit: **I noticed that sites ranking above me on the first page for some keywords have much less on-page elements than my page, have about the same domain trust and also very little inbound links. The only factor I can see is the exact match of keywords in the domain name.
