Internal 302s
-
I am noticing a lot of 302 status codes on my site. After inspecting the elements, I believe this is because a link on a certain page is 302ing to a secure page. So when it changes the URL from http to https its using 302. Is this something important to change and would I change this to 301s? There are thousands like this.
Thanks much!!!

First, I wouldn't use https unless you really need that page to be secure, such as forms, shopping carts, or any page where someone inputs personal information, or where their personal information (or others') is displayed.
Second, in cases where you really need to use https then yes, I would 301 redirect the http version to the https version of the page.
You may also consider using rel canonical tags to help search engines figure out which version is the one you want them to use.
Lastly, if you choose to go with http on some of those pages just make sure you update all of the internal links so they point to the right URL instead of relying on the redirects to do this for you.

Download and run screaming frog SEO spider
http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/
it is wonder percent free and runs on Mac, Windows and Linux
the only cost is incurred when you go past 500 pages.
However this tool will allow you to change 302 into 301 if needed. If using the paid version.
You can also use http://Internetmarketingninjas.com/tools/
look for broken link checker and site map creator.
It will give you a good idea of what's going on your site and it costs you nothing. unless you are using a very unique set up like a reverse proxy or you're setting up your own load balancers you probably should not of the 302 although some people think it's wise to use it on Loggins and in some cases SSLs always found that logins
see if you have any of the things below and run your site through the tools above they will tell you what you need to do. If you need more help let me know,

I believe it is important for a website to use only one version of the URL either HTTP or HTTPs or else you will also see lot of duplication of content problems as well. It is recommended to choose one and redirect 301 all other forms to the one your preferred.

Use Internal Search pages as Landing Pages?
Hi all Just a general discussion question about Internal Search pages and using them for SEO. I've been looking to "noindexing / follow" them, but a lot of the Search pages are actually driving significant traffic & revenue. I've over 9,000 search pages indexed that I was going to remove, but after reading this article (https://www.oncrawl.com/technical-seo/seo-internal-search-results/) I was wondering if any of you guys have had success using these pages for SEO, like with using auto-generated content. Or any success stories about using the "noindexing / follow"" too. Thanks!

Link's that are an internal site search?
Hi hope your're all well. I sell Red, Blue, Green Widgets within each color I have many sub types, the subtypes change all the time, and a sub type has many variations in itself. I'd like to set up links that direct customers to popular searches of sub types say: widgets.com/red/blue-spots....search string... Will Google crawl these search links and see that there is good content behind it? How does Google handle links that are also a site search? Can it be bad and should I "no follow" them? Hope someone can give me some direction on these, many thanks in advance!

How to set up internal linking with subcategories?
I'm building a new website and am setting up internal link structure with subcategories and hoping to do so with best Seo practices in mind. When linking to a subcategory's main page, would I make the internal link www.xxx.com/fishing/ or www.xxx.com/fishing/index.html or does it matter? I'm just trying to avoid duplicate content I guess, if Google saw each page as a separate page. Any other cautions when using subdirectories in my navigation?

What if I point my canonicals to a URL version that is not used in internal links
My web developer has pointed the "good" URLs that I use in my internal link structure (top-nav/footer) to another duplicate version of my pages. Now the URLs that receive all the canonical link value are not the ones I use on my website. is this a problem and why??? In theory the implementation is good because both have equal content. But does it harm my link equity if it directs to a URL which is not included in my internal link architecture.

Internal vs external blog and best way to set up
I have a client that has two domians registered - one uses www.keywordaustralia.com the other uses www.keywordaelaide.com He had already bought and used the first domain when he came to me I suggested the second as being worth buying as going for a more local keyword would be more appropriate. Now I have suggested to him that a blog would be a worthy use of the second domain and a way to build links to his site - however I am reading that as all links will be from the same site it wont be worth much in the long run and an internal blog is better as it means updated content on his site. should i use the second domain for blog, or just 301 the second domain to his first domain. Or is it viable to use the second domain as the blog and just set up an rss feed on his page ? Is there a way to have the second domain somehow 'linked' to his first domain with the blog so that google sees them as connected ? NOOBIE o_0

Absolute of Relative Internal Website Links
Hi, I am not sure what is considered best practice when linking between pages on the same site - absolute or relative: Link Or Link I notice a lot of CMS systems (WordPress) use the absolute method - is there a reason? Any help much appreciated. Barney.
