Getting out of Google's Penguin
-
Hi all, my site www.uniggardin.dk has lost major rankings on the searchengine google.dk. Went from rank #2-3 on important keywords to my site, and after the latest update most of my rankings have jumped to #12 - #20.
This is so annoying, and I really have no idea what to do. Can it cause bad links to my site? In that case what will I have to do?
Thanks in advance,
Christoffer -
you should connect on twitter and G+ via my profile page on here... in case you need more guidance
-
Exactly, just replace the ones you have lost with better ones -your ranking will come back in no time
-
Ok so getting more quality links would be the way through?
Thanks
-
or get your moz profile to 200 mozpoints and they will no follow a your profile link to your website.

It sounds to me more like the continuous link devaluation that Google is employing these days.
They will devalue links as and when they find anything seen as spammy. They then turn these links from dofollow to nofollow. When they update their algorithms this will change what is viewed as unnatural and then they will pick up on links that were not previously viewed as bad.
There will be no need for any actions other then to replace these links in order to regain your rankings.
A few high DA sites to get some links from could include Google plus + and Pinterest. Google plus lets any account post a few external links on the bottom right. Pinterest allows for a backlink when creating a verified business profile. Both easily done and both provide 100DA (domain authority) dofollow backlinks to your website
-
If I havent got a Gslap (Google penalty) What would then be the reason for my big drops in the ranks after latest google update?
Is there a recipe to find those high DA domains and where I will be able to post my link?
Thanks
-
Definately not a penalty, you would have known about it if you did have one. Normally I have found you are dropped about 10 pages when you get a Gslap (google penalty).
Just build some high DA (Domain Authority) links from some great social sites and you will be back on page one in no time

Hi Christoffer.
Start by taking a snapshot of your inbound links using a range of tools including Open Site Explorer.
Sort the links by the following:
1. Relevancy, on a scale of 1-10
2. Quality of site, on a scale of 1-10.The prime candidates for removal are:
-Sites with low DA / metrics, low inbound links and low social metrics
-Sites with low quality overall, or sites in which the prime purpose appears to be advertising before providing good content to the consumer
-Sites that are completely irrelevant to your business.Start with the worst offending links.
You will inevitably need to start emailing off to those webmasters in order to ask them to remove your link.
If in doubt, it's best to leave a link, or find a qualified consultant here at the Moz that can assist you in the analysis process.
Best of luck!

By the way, is this your Facebook page? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Uniggardin/152428571610
You seem to have over 2000 likes, but the Facebook like widget in the footer only shows 131. You should also set your page name: https://www.facebook.com/help/271607792873806
I don't think Facebook takes Facebook likes into account (we have over 1.6 million likes, and it does nothing for our SEO ranking), but it's definitely worth fixing.

I can clearly understand your frustration. Since you're running a shop selling curtains, getting good backlinks is not the easiest thing to do. Google does now allow you to pay for backlinks, and I doubt there are that many Danish sites out there specializing in curtains. The thinking goes that if lots of relevant sites link back to you, your ranking will improve as Google will think you have an important curtain site.
Try to see what the people currently ranking for "your keywords" are doing. Run a backlink report on them and check their backlinks. Building a high quality website is not enough, you have to know what pleases the Google algorithm at any given point in time. Perhaps you could try sending Matt Cutts some nice curtains for his house. Do you have penguin patterned curtains?

Hi
thats a pretty small drop. Not really penalty worthy. Build better links and drive more traffic. Plus, the algorithm is still changing now, so you will see changes within the next few weeks. Start building the good links now.
-
The best possible thing you can do immediately is build relevant, quality content and gain organic links to said content from actual sites that your potential customers might be coming from. This will help you regain. I'm assuming you don't have any manual notices in GWT? Therefore this is easy enough. Your Domain Authority is low, you need more SEO work, and that starts with marketing.
But of course, as I always say, SEO IS marketing is SEO. I just launched me a blog where I rant about that for awhile, in fact. It even has a Finkle is Einhorn video, but I digress.

Hey Anders,
There's a lot that would go into answering that question and it would probably be best to do a little leg work on your own to get an understanding of what's happened and the major steps you'll be be taking here in the near future. Moz has a bunch of threads dealing with that topic and I'd browse through those to start with.

What's the best redirect to use for a newer version of a blog post?
For example: suppose you have a post "The Best Games to Play for YouTube Gamers in 2016" and you want to make this a yearly series. Should you 301 the 2016 version to the new 2017 one? Should you use the canonical attribute? If 2016 isn't in the URL, should you make the 2017 one the new URL?

HELP! How do I get Google to value one page over another (older) page that is ranking?
So I have a tactical question and I need mozzers. I'll use widgets as an example: 1- My company used to sell widgets exclusively and we built thousands of useful, branded unique pages that sell widgets. We have thousands of pages that are ranking for widgets.com/brand-widgets-for-sale. (These pages have been live for almost 2 years) 2- We've shifted our focus to now renting widgets. We have about 100 pages focused on renting the same branded widgets. These pages have unique content and photos and can be found at widgets.com/brand-widgets-for-rent. (These pages have been live for about 2-3 months) The problem is that when someone searches just for the brand name, the "for sale" pages dramatically outrank the "for rent" pages. Instead, I want them to find the "for rent" page. I don't want to redirect traffic from the "for sale" pages because someone might still be interested in buying (although as a company, we are super focused on renting). Solutions? "nofollow" the "for sale" pages with the idea that Google will stop indexing "for sale" and start valuing "for rent" over it? Remove "for sale" from sitemap. Help!!

Brand sections performing badly in SERP's but all SEO tools think we are great
I have had this problem for some time now and I've asked many many experts. Search for Falke in Google.co.uk and this is what you get: http://www.sockshop.co.uk/by_brand/falke/ 3rd Our competitor
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | jpbarber
http://www.mytights.com/gb/brand/falke.html 4th Our competitor http://www.uktights.com/section/73/falke 104th this is us ????? 9th for Falke tights with same section not our falke tights section? All sites seem to link to their brand sections in the same way with links in the header and breadcrumbs, Opensite exporler only shows 2 or 3 internal links for our compertitors, 1600+ from us?
Many of our brand sections rank badly Pretty Polly and Charnos brands rank page 2 or 3 with a brand subsection with no links to them, main section dosn't rank? Great example is Kunert, a German brand no UK competition our section has been live for 8 years, the best we can do is 71st Google UK, 1st on Bing (as we should be). I'm working on adding some quality links, but our comtetitors have a few low quality or no external links, only slightly better domain authority but rank 100+ positions better than us on some brands. This to me would suggest there is something onpage / internal linking I'm doing wrong, but all tools say "well done, grade A" take a holiday. Keyword denisty is similar to our competiors and I've tried reducing the number of products on the page. All pages really ranked well pre Penguin, and Bing still likes them. This is driving me nuts and costing us money Cheers Jonathan

Getting Google in index but display "parent" pages..
Greetings esteemed SEO experts - I'm hunting for advice: We operate an accommodation listings website. We monetize by listing position in search results, i.e. you pay more to get higher placing in the page. Because of this, while we want individual detailed listing pages to be indexed to get the value of the content, we don't really want them appearing in Google search results. We ideally want the "content value" to be attributed to the parent page - and google to display this as the link in the search results instead of the individual listing. Any ideas on how to achieve this?

Who is beating you on Google (after Penguin)?
Hi,
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | rayvensoft
After about a month of Penguin and 1 update, I am starting to notice an annoying pattern as to who is beating me in the rankings on google. I was wondering if anybody else has noticed this.
The sites who are beating me - almost without exception - fall into these 2 categories. 1) Super sites that have little or nothing to do with the service I am offering. Now it is not the homepages that are beating me. In almost all cases they are simply pages hidden in their forums where somebody in passing mentioned something relating to what I do. 2) Nobodies. Sites that have absolutely no links back to them, and look like they were made by a 5 year old. Has anybody else noticed this? I am just wondering if what I see only apply to my sites or if this is a pattern across the web. Does this mean that for small sites to rank, it is now all about on-page SEO? If it all about on-page, well that is great... much easier than link building. But I want to make sure others see the same thing before dedicating a lot of time to overhaul my sites and create new content.| Thanks!0 -
Should I use both Google and Bing's Webmaster Tools at the same time?
Hi All, Up till now I've been registered only to Google WMT. Do you recommend using at the same time Bing's WMT? Thanks
