Press Release Sites
-
Has anyone ever used macreportmedia.com for press releases? I normally use PR Web. This new company contacted me and it sounds pretty good, but I don't really trust anything without reviews, and I can't seem to find any out there. Has anyone had any luck with these guys? If not, can you suggest anything other than PR Web that you've had success with? I'm really looking for the SEO benefits of the releases more than the publicity.

Other than prweb and prnewswire, I also recommend marketwire.
In the most recent SMX, Matt Cutts talked about how google doesn't count the press release links because they are essentially paid links.
The most important thing you need to think about when choosing the press distribution sites is how wide of a net it casts, so that your story actually gets picked up by journalists and they write about you, hopefully with a link. The actual link from the press release (ex. prweb.com/ xxxxx) has no SEO value, in my opinion.

I haven't ventured outside of PRWeb yet, but honestly I don't know how effective they are. The one link you get from the actual press release is good, but as far as I can tell the online pick-up, albeit large (100+ sites usually), isn't that helpful as the individual pages don't seem to be getting indexed. I ended up with 3 free press releases from PRWeb in their attempt to make up for an extremely rude tech support guy, but I can't say they have done a whole lot for me. I have one more release to use and then I think I may find something else. I hear prnewswire.com is good, but its so expensive!

Depends on your content, but we use Christian Newswire http://christiannewswire.com/ We've been extremely happy with them. They are responsive, have wide distribution and are more reasonably priced than PRWeb.

I'm curious what more people think about these PR sites. I know that they are supposed to be less and less effective but I see a ton of sites building links out like crazy from them and getting good ranking for their clearly anchor-text targeted keywords.
What do you all think? I know it's kind of a gray area even though Google is against it, but they can't necessarily count these as penalties right?... because there are actual bonafide press releases coming out of them?
Other decent DA PR sites, so that I'm contributing:
MarketWire.com
24-7 press release

With a PR3 and Domain Authority - 32, this website will not give you any SEO benefit.
If you need a good Press Release site other than PRWeb, you should try:

DA of External Link Sites
Curious as to how you separate a "good" link from a "bad" one. I go through Open Site Explorer and see a variety of sites linking to our page. Some have good Domain/Page Authority and others do not. When looking for links, where do you determine whether a link from a specific page will help/hurt you in terms of their DA/PA? Translated another way: How much DA/PA does a site/page need to have before you decide it will pass good link juice to yours via a link?

Linking back to a high authority site
I have an odd situation. One of our most powerful links comes from a not-for-profit whom we have an advertisement with. That ad gets us half of our business. Recently, they slipped for the term that got them the traffic that flowed to our site. I was thinking of linking back to that page to boost them up a bit. Their page is a deep page on a high authority domain with only a few links. I am an authority site for my niche. I'd like to boost them up without diminishing my rank for other related terms. I'm willing to consider linking to them from my homepage, blog or link page. To play it safe I could just link build to them from outside my domain. Can I just link to them and its not a big deal?

Links to International Versions of the same site
Hi, our clients' .com site has a link in the header to the .com.au version of their site and vice versa. In effect this creates a reciprocal link on each page. Should we prevent the robots from crawling this link? I don't think a nofollow will suffice.

Observation on Linking to other sites
Hello, I have a blog for one year now and in the overwall is going great. In all this time it was an awesome way to discovery some SEO mysterious and learn with experience wich in my point of view is the best way to do it. Now my observation is about links to other sites and what does that do. At the present I have about 35 keywords in the 3 first places in Google, bing e Yahoo. All good. I notice that the posts that I have links (dofolow) to other sites are performing better then those ones that only have internal-links. And Its curious that this change as starting to surface in Dezember of 2011. Now the confusion is about the SEOmoz observation towards external links. "You should avoid having too many (roughly defined as more than 100) hyperlinks on any given page. When search engine spiders crawl the Internet they are limited by technology resources and are only able to crawl a certain number of links per webpage. In addition, search engine algorithms divide the value of some popularity metrics by the amount of links on a given page." Now hell with this observation I say. Its working for me and for now on I will actually apply this SEO strategy when Im talking about a subject in a post:) What do you guys think? Whats your experince on this? Regards, Pedro M Pereira

Why Google is not getting many of the links to my site?
Hello, I have a website for cosmetics, selling and a lot of information (http://www.vipcosmetica.com). For about half a year I've been working also in seo for several google keywords. My question is about the external links to my site. Using different tools, including those of SEOMoz, I see just a few links to my site, however there are plenty, because I've been putting them myself, in public directories, related blogs, industry websites and so on. Alexa shows 5 links only, OpenSiteExplorer shows 4, and Market Samurai 9. I thinks theres should be like 50-60 links, minimum, in pages with good google PR (Youtube, Vimeo, Vulka, Hotfrog, Digg, Flickr, etc.). In Alexa, recently two more links appeared, from two blogs that have copied some content from my site (priveta policy) without changing the original links that point to other pages on my site, and those are the links that Alexa shows now. What could be the reason the rest of the links do not appear at all? Thank you very much

When rebuilding a site, when should you start building links?
We are in the process of completely rebuilding our web presence. We went ahead and started a blog using Hubspot while we are redesigning everything and writing all new content. The new site will be live in early August. The question is when do we start making a big push with Linkbuilding? I am currently trying to promote the Blog but I'm wondering about linkbuilding for the rest of the site? Do we wait until the new site is live or do we start doing it now? The new site will be completely different from the old site?
