Yoast Sitemap Best Practices
-
I'm using the Yoast SEO plugin and I've never really known the correct answer to this question or which factors you should consider when choosing, but can someone give me some advice on which post types and taxonomies to exclude when generating the sitemap using this plugin. I know this is probably unique to each site, but can someone share what criteria they weigh when choosing which ones to exclude for their own site?

Hi Andrew,
The answer often comes down to duplicate content and whether or not you choose to index these post types. If the posts are unique and valuable and you want to index them, it's generally good to include them in the sitemap.
In general, most post types should are generally included in most sitemaps. On the other hand, if you have entire categories of post types that you've de-indexed, you may not want to include these.

I run a blog and the sitemaps index the post, categories, tags and pages. Without seeing the actual site , I dont think I can offer much valuable advice , but generally speaking
With categories and tags I make sure to add a onpage description , this way they are not just a list of posts. I am also very careful when adding categories and tag , I dont want to have a lot of duplicate content around them ( I am still in the process of cleaning up the tags after I went a little wild with them )

Metadescription not being pulled by Google? Yoast v SmartCrawl?
Hey guys, For whatever reason, Google isn't pulling the metadescriptions I've provided for a wordpress site I'm working on. We had both Yoast and SmartCrawl installed, so I thought maybe they were confusing Google and deactivated Yoast. Unfortunately, that didn't fix the issue. Instead of using the text I've plugged into SmartCrawl, Google is just using snippets from the blog posts... And it's happening for every single post, leading to a huge uptick in metadata issues in moz. Any idea how to fix this?? Thank you!

Most people would google for "activity bali" in this case "rafting bali". Please advice. Thanks for your time and help in advance!

Issue with old sitemap
Hi Quite new to SeoMoz so some learning curve but we have one issue on a site perhaps someone can advise on? We have many duplicate page titles / content, we think this was due to a corrupt sitemap.xml file, all of the URL's look like this with an odd page at the end http://www.totalpetsupplies.co.uk/problem.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/animals/Cat_Accessories_Pet_Collars/privacy.aspx So that XML map was removed well over a week ago, the new sitemap is an apsx generated one to get all pages correctly show as www.totalpetsuppies.co.uk/sitemap.aspx. Goolge and Bing have that. SeoMoz re did our site and the errors went up a bit!! Not sure how that process works, anyone any suggestions? Cheers Shaun

Best way to link to an affiliate site.
I have a site that promotes a single affiliate product. Would it be better to have a "buy" button in the content that goes straight to the external affiliates website or should I send it all to an internal page that redirects thus only having 1 external link to the product site.

Best article about internal linking structure?
Hi! Could you please recommend me a good and deep article about best practises in internal linking structure? I need to rethink the structure of a big site (lucky me it's very hierarchical) and I would like to have a look at some great articles about this to consolidate some ideas and have some new ones. I've read some but I would like some recommendations 🙂 Some articles about information architecture would be appreciated as well! Thanks!
