One brand 5 services. How to optimize?
-
We have a client that provides 5 different services all under one brand and one site. The challenge is getting good web popularity to each major brand. It looks like this:
Brand ( No real Internet traffic to Brand keywords)
Service A
Service B
Service C
Service D
Service E
All the services are displayed on the home page. The SEOmoz scores are now (in general) as high or higher than the competition in the service keywords, but, of course, we are only ranking on the top for one of the services. It's a local business.
We are just finishing a re-design of the site so that each service has an internal "micro site" within the domain. Each of the services is linked from the home page to its micro sites Anchor page. The anchor page is linked to 2 to 4 other pages all directly related to that services information.
SO my question is, should we continue to work on building the home page popularity, or focus a mix between the Home page (Brand) and the Micro sites Anchor pages. or just go
for popularity of the Internal Anchor pages for the services?
Hope this makes sense. And thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Egol is correct. It is really hard to address your question without a great deal of specifics.
The only general recommendation I can offer is to be sure to cover all the major factors for each page before trying to drill down on your home page.
Let's go back to the MOZ Chevrolet example. For your body shop, I would ensure you are listed in any local directories as Moz Chevrolet Body Shop. I would also work with insurance companies, towing companies, police agencies and anyone else I can think of who is a possible source of customer information and can offer a good link.
You don't want to get caught up tweaking minor details on the main page when you have big opportunities on the other pages.
-
For this question, generalized advice is meaningless. Too many factors are involved, such as the rankings of your individual pages and the keywords that your homepage competes for.
-
I guess I could ask this question in a different way.
If we continue to spend 100% of our efforts on the home page popularity ( meaning linking, and all other related SEO type tactics) will we see greater returns on all 5 , (assume all 5 have equal value) than if we spend 100% of our time on the service anchor pages, regardless of the order.
-
Would be hard to work on them all at once. Promoted one at a time
-
I will create an example to try to make this easier.
You are the proud owner of MOZ Chevrolet. Your dealership offers:
New Car Sales
Used Car Sales
Auto Repair
Auto Body Shop
Auto Parts
Each of those five separate departments (what you referred to as services) can have their own sections within your site. As you suggested each of these can be micro sites.
The main MOZ Chevrolet page can focus on broader key words or phrases such as "Chevrolet" or "Chicago Chevrolet". Meanwhile your Auto Repair service can focus on "Chevy repairs" and other key words.
If you are the auto repair manager, you can offer your departments page as the home page for your customers. You can run promotions, track statistics and in many respects treat your pages as if they were their own site.
The key factor is how strong are these services? In this example, many dealerships are quite casual about their business. Meanwhile, your body shop manager can be aggressive, seek business, provide higher standards, etc.
In summary, if your services are strong, then they can absolutely support their own pages. If they are weak, and you don't foresee a change, you may opt to focus on the main brand.

Great questions, and yes. We have each service prioritized by both profitability and marketability
Like all of us of course, they want them all! .
-
Have you spoken with the client about which services they most want promoted? Where do they have capacity, where do they have profitability, what parts of the business do they enjoy?

Is Wordpress Website Backup Service Worth the Investment?
I was horrified to learn that my hosting company, InMotion Hosting does not offer redundant backups, that it is on the customer to set up backups to ensure they don't lose their data. I plan to back up to Google Drive 3 x a week for 12 backups and also create 3 backups on our server (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday). So if something goes wrong and we catch it within a week we can generate the backup directly from our server. There are website backup services such as BlogVault. Do they offer any meaningful advantages to taking the contents of the entire server (16 gigs) and backing it up? They do offer Malware removal. Does this have value? Is back up on an external service like Google Cloud while simultaneously backing up on the server a safe way to proceed? If not, what is the simplest and most effective manner to backup? I prefer to avoid adding any plugins to WordPress as our site already has too many (about 30). Thanks!!

How To Optimize A Page For Multiple Keywords
Hi Guys, In this video by Brian Dean he talks about how to go about optimising for multiple keywords. He basically said the main factors for optimising a page for multiple keywords are the following: Identify other keywords with same search intent as your primary keyword. Add them to title tag strategically, don't stuff them in there. Add as many of those keywords as h2 tags into the content, again when it makes sense. Are there any other more advanced ways you can use to optimize a page for multiple keywords with same search intent that could be good? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Cheers.

Is there any company or service that offers link disavowing?
Hi there, some SEO companies did some work on our site. Instead of helping us they killed us by adding some very bad links all over the web. The disavowing process is not easy at all so I was wondering if there is any company that offers this. We have almost 1000 links that we want to get rid of. Any suggestions?

Recovery Steps For Panda 3.5 (Rel. Apr. 19, 2012)?
I'm asking people who have recovered from Panda to share what criteria they used - especially on sites that are not large scale ecommerce sites. Blog site hit by Panda 3.5. Blog has approximately 250 posts. Some of the posts are the most thorough on the subject and regained traffic despite a Penguin mauling a few days after the Panda attack. (The site has probably regained 80% of the traffic it lost since Penguin hit without any link removal or link building, and minimal new content.) Bounce rate is 80% and average time on page is 2:00 min. (Even my most productive pages tend to have very high bounce rates BUT those pages maintain time on page in the 4 to 12 minute range.) The Panda discussions I've read on these boards seem to focus on e-commerce sites with extremely thin content. I assume that Google views much of my content as "thin" too. But, my site seems to need a pruning instead of just combiining the blue model, white model, red model, and white model all on one page like most of the ecommerce sites we've discussed. So, I'm asking people who have recovered from Panda to share what criteria they used to decide whether to combine a page, prune a page, etc. After I combine any series articles to one long post (driving the time on page to nice levels), I plan to prune the remaining pages that have poor time on page and/or bounce rates. Regardless of the analytics, I plan to keep the "thin" pages that are essential for readers to understand the subject matter of the blog. (I'll work on flushing out the content or producing videos for those pages.) How deep should I prune on the first cut? 5% ? 10% ? Even more ? Should I focus on the pages with the worst bounce rates, the worst time on page, or try some of both? If I post unique and informative video content (hosted on site using Wistia), what I should I expect for a range of the decrease in bounce rate ? Thanks for reading this long post.

Should I optimize for broad or exact match in this case?
Best to illustrate with an example: the term "do girls like chest hair?" has a volume of 210 for exact match, 390 for broad. The term "do girls like hairy guys?" on the other hand, has an exact match volume of 73, but a BROAD match of 8,100. Assuming either is a suitable title for a piece of content and all other things being equal, which page title should I use? As a sort of follow-on, when should one care for broad over exact match?

Redirect on exact match domain to Brand domain question :)
Hi, If I have a website with the domain crazysocks.co.uk and a title tag 'black socks' would I see any benefit redirecting blacksocks.co.uk to crazysocks.co.uk, to give my keyword 'black socks' a boost in the SE's from the EMD. I see it loads where an EMD is indexed for its term but when you click the result it redirects to a branded domain. I personally cant see this being true but wanted to double check.

For multi language sites, what is best - two domains or one with both languages?
We are assisting a client in setting up English and Spanish sites in Texas. They want to be able to find customers who are Spanish speaking predominantly or totally along with the customers they now get who are English speakers. We are building them a new site and I have researched to find answers all over the board or less than clear. Should the structure be such that we have one site with a set of English and Spanish pages all with Spanish links to Spanish pages and English links to English pages. Should we instead just have an English site for those people who utilize English and a different site for those who utilize Spanish? Thanks
