Why did Moz take the fun video out of its Robots.txt file?
-
I loved this. The new robots.txt file is a big yawn. I miss the video. Can you guys add it back (or something equally delighting)? Pretty please?
-
Now that we're talking easter eggs... is that the only known easter egg implanted / found in moz.com? :))
I love easter eggs. All year through.

Thanks Ruth. I know they're busy rocking the new Moz, but I just wanted you guys to know we appreciate those little nuggets.

I think it's just something we neglected to add to our new robots.txt file! I'll see what I can do, but our Inbound Engineering team is pretty busy planning and building new awesome features so it may take a bit.

Backlinks on Moz not on Google Search Console
Moz is showing thousands of backlinks to my site that are not showing up on Google Search Console - which is good because those links were created by some spammer in Pakistan somewhere. I haven't yet submitted a disavow report to Google of well over 10K links because the list keeps growing every day with new backlinks that have been rerouted to a 404 page. I have asked Google to clarify and they put my question on their forum for an answer, which I'm still waiting for - so I thought I'd try my luck here. My question... If Moz does not match Google Search Console, and backlinks are important to results, how valid is the ranking that Moz creates to let me know how I'm doing in this competition and if I'm improving or not. If the goal is to get Google to pay attention and I use Moz to help me figure out how to do this, how can I do that if the backlink information isn't the same - by literally over 10 000 backlinks created by some spammer doing odd things... They've included the url from their deleted profile on my site with 100s of other urls, including Moz.com and are posting them everywhere with their preferred anchor text. Moz ranking considers the thousands of spam backlinks I can't get rid of and Google ignores them or disavows them. So isn't the rankings, data, and graphs apples and bananas? How can I know what my site's strength really is and if I'm improving or not if the data doesn't match? Complete SEO Novice Shannon Peel

Can i get a list of internal and external links from moz?
My issue is that i have 133k external links and 730k total links. And from what i've read on the forums this means that we have about 597k internal links (730k total links minus 133k external links). And this seems like HUGE number of internal links. I somehow think it might be affecting our seo rankings as it might look like some "fishy" practice to Google. So in the graphs i can see that this number of total links has actually risen from 400k to 700k in the past months.. And since our external link count hasn't changed that much it means the number of internal links has grown a lot. So my idea is to check what are these internal links so I can better understand where they come from. Can anyone explain how come we have such a HUGE number of internal links? And more importnantly how can we see a list of these internal links so we could possibly rectify this and check if all is in order? I am adding a screnshot to give better insight jiDONUw

Why Moz OSE, Ahrefs, Majestic and so on, don't change their user agent while crawling?
Some blackhat websites, PBNs and other "cheaters" are using various methods to effectively block third party backlink checker bots (OSE, Ahrefs, Majestic...) : robot.txt, IP and such. A simple solution for those bots would be to mimic Google by using its user agent string for example.

Or if not legally permitted (which I doubt) use some kind of randomness in user agent strings, urls, and IPs in order to prevent blocking. This should not be a big deal IMHO, am I missing something obvious ?0 -
How long does it take for new links to show up?
Hi all, We just kicked off our first infographic to start a content marketing strategy: I'm wondering how long it will take for SEOMoz to add this to our link profile, and I suppose more importantly, how long it will take Google to recognize the links that have been generated from it. The response has been pretty good and I'm excited to see the results. Thanks!

How long should does it take before I see SEO results?
I am thinking about launching a website connected to Christmas - which gives me less then 2 months to develop and begin ranking for the site. Is this too short a timeframe and I should put off this plan until next year or can I actually begin ranking for low competitive keywords within my timeframe.

Domain/page authority - how long does it take so see results ?
Im new to the SEO and link building world. I have been building on my link building campaign over the last month or two but I am yet to see any changes in my domain/page authority. Is it because of the quality of the links, the directories I have been submitting in, webmasters maybe using "nofollow" tag ect. Or it generally just takes time to see the results? Is this even how domain/page authority is built. lol Any information on the topic would be greatly appreciated. Regards, S&M

Concerned about quality of backlinks - should I take action?
I regularly work on websites to which previous SEOs have built questionable backlinks. This morning I've just been analysing some backlinks - found 40 odd were coming from 20 odd websites which all had the same gentleman as personal registrant, who happens to be the boss of an SEO company. The SEO company name is mentioned in registrant details too, and often on the websites in question (including weblinks from some of these 20 odd websites to the SEO company). I did note the IP addresses / hosting for these websites did vary though, as did the postal address of the individual in question, perhaps throwing Google off the scent a bit. I should add that these websites are virtually all tourism related/themed, with up to a few dozen backlinks per page - usually articles. It's very clear they are backlinking to keyphrases. Now, this kinda thing<a></a> sets the alarm bells ringing. Firstly, this looks like an infringement of Google Webmaster Guidelines. Secondly, it doesn't sound like a White Hat technique for building links! Am I correct? I guess it might be denied they are partner pages due to the quality of content, perhaps, which isn't as spammy as it might've been. However, I suggest these are at least paid links because there is no other clear way of getting content on these pages, as far as I can see.<a></a><a></a> Should I demand these backlinks are taken down? What level of risk is posed do you think? I don't want this website to suffer a Google penalty at some point, particularly not after I've started work on it. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
