Google + local Multiple Locations
-
My client has three offices and I have created three separate Google + local listings for them - I have listed the specific locations page as the website address for each - Google specifies to add the coding to the homepage to link Google + however what do we do with the three different codes - does each one go on the home page or at the bottom of the specific landing page for that particular office?

Hi AllieMC, how did it work out for you? We are in a similar situation and looking to create a google+ local page for each location. Haven't decided how we are going to link them on our website but we have a dedicated landing page for each location that will definitely have the corresponding/appropriate Google+ local link.

Thanks Miriam, I will let the developers know and obviously watch to see if anyone else has had this issue. Surely it is a common problem with Local businesses that have more than one office? Google sure is making this a minefield. Really wish they would sort it out and give definitive answers.

Hi Allie,
What I have read is that you can put more than one +1 buttons on the same page, yes. See: https://developers.google.com/+/web/+1button/
Scroll down to the FAQ section and you'll see this:
<dl>
<dt id="faq-multiple-buttons">Can I place multiple buttons on a single page that all +1 different URLs?</dt>
<dd>Yes. Use the
href
attribute as specified in +1 tag parameters to indicate the URL to be +1'd.</dd><dd>That being said, I have not read any studies about how to handle this best. I cannot find anything stating whether it is better to put all of the code on a single page or break it up into multiple pages. I'll leave this question open for discussion in case one of our members has a study or best practice to share on this.</dd>

Hi Miriam,
Sorry I know my head is spinning - it is for the Google + Pages (added the business to the ' local' option as opposed to brand, entertainment etc) The code I am referring to is the code that you add to the homepage of your website so that you see Google+ in the footer? Hope that makes sense. You are such a wealth of knowledge - thank you for responding.

Hi Allie,
I want to be sure we're both using the same vocabulary here (Google has made its branding so confusing). What code are you talking about and what does it do, specifically, and are you sure you mean Google+ Local pages...not Google+ pages? Please, let me know.

Google+ advice
I am in the process of finalizing G+ pages for our financial institution's 70 locations. So far, the only things I see in my control (set-up only) are the basics - address, phone number, website, description, categories, etc. I do have some great information for additional information (drive-through hours, products, services, etc.), but I see that there's not a place for those. So aside from ensuring accuracy, choosing the best categories provided by Google, uploading quality pics, writing an effective/optimized description, and making sure my pins are correct, any other tips for making these the best pages the best I can? The only thing in my scope is page set-up. Our social media coordinator will be mitigating reviews and posting content. Thanks!

Shared location and phone number in Google Places...what now?
Interesting conundrum I've run into with a legal site we've recently started working on. The client didn't initially tell us that their law office shares an address and a phone number with another firm. It didn't take long for us to find this out, but interestingly, it didn't seem to be negatively impacting their rankings...at first. Then as we got into June we simply fell out of the map listings. We occasionally resurface back to a 1-3 position and then disappear again. My presumption is that Google is having trouble deciding if either of our separate listings are legitimate as there are a lot of citations for each and the on site and off site SEO/link factors are fairly similar (with our site having a bit better link profile). So my thought is get a unique phone number (if I can make the client agree) and add a unique suite number and try to reclaim/edit every existing citation we can get our hands on. Anyone else run into a similar problem and beat it?

Google Carousel - What Should We Now Be Doing Differently?
Google Carousel is rolling out for even more topics. How does it affect or change tracking in Google Analytics? For example, if I am in the Carousel and someone clicks my listing, then Google completes a search for my property… then the searcher clicks through to my site organically. Will I know that someone originally clicked the Carousel or will I have no idea and simply see a Google organic click? Should we be optimizing our Google+ Places listings differently? How does this change our own organic keyword targeting? In other words, if I am in the Carousel should I go after a different keyword organically? Does anyone know how many people are clicking into the Carousel vs. the organic listings or even pay per click below? Searchers behavior will be altered because of this change. What say you all? Google Places categories
I work with a Local SEO company for troubleshooting our Google Places and optimization. They suggested that in order for us to rank for the keywords we provided them with they need to change the categories. Now, those categories do not exist in Google Places and I read on Seomoz and Google help forum that we should choose from the ones in the list provided by Google. I also know that Categories should not contain location-based information. Should I let them do that?

Structured Data and Location
I have heard it argued recently that the use of structured data such as schema.org to identify your business location on a website should help SERP in local search. Why is this important if the location is clear on the website and why should it make a difference if the site is already showing well in local search?
