On Page Reports for Long-Tail Keywords?
-
First Q&A here, so take it easy on me. Hopefully this is not a dumb question.
99% of the on page reports I look at are for local keywords. I'm finding that some of the page reports get and F where they should be receiving A's. I noticed if I manage a long-tail keyword like "books in houston tx" that I get a grade based on the exact phrase as opposed to a combination of the keywords. So when I have text in the body saying "books in the Houston area" or "Houston Books" for example, instead of using my exact managed keyword, it will tell me that the keyword is not mentioned in the body anywhere. When it is, it's just not in the exact order... I'm trying to write my pages for users and I don't think the users want to hear "books in houston tx" several times.
If I do a report on the same page for the keyword "books" I get an A. So this is where it gets a little in the grey area for me. I need a solid on page report for local long-tail search terms. Anyone have any advice? Is there a way I could be using this tool to better suit my needs?

Highly agree!
Golden Words!
...Ultimately, SEO is not about following a strict set of guidelines--it's about having a well-founded knowledge level and then leveraging that knowledge in unique ways in order to gain an advantage over your competitors....

I think that with the understanding you have, you're already beyond the report's capabilities to instruct you--fundamentally, it's a fairly simple tool. At this point, you don't need a report to help you further, you need to interpret your real-world results to make decisions that will let you tweak your pages in the right direction.

In other words, it may be time to use the force, Luke. That's what we all used to do before such reports were available.

Exact Keyword is Used in Page Title & Exact Keyword Used in Document Text at Least Once
Hi Folks, I have a page https://purplegriffon.com/courses/itil-training/itil-foundation-training/itil-foundation that grades with the 'On-Page Grader' as a B grade for the keyword 'itil foundation' but reports that there is no 'Exact Keyword is Used in Page Title' and 'Exact Keyword Used in Document Text at Least Once'. The thing is, it actually is but because of IP (intellectual property) rights we have to include a '®' (®) symbol when we mention the course title 'ITIL® Foundation'. Now I believe Google is smart enough to recognise that this symbol should not be included but it seems that for the specific criteria mentioned above, the MOZ bot isn't smart enough to recognise this, even though it recognises the keyword usage elsewhere. So my question is this. Would this constitute an issue in terms of ranking? Another question I have, is how significant are the gains with shorter URL's? For example, the URL to the page in question is: https://purplegriffon.com/courses/itil-training/itil-foundation-training/itil-foundation Would a URL such as below have a significant effect on SEO?: https://purplegriffon.com/courses/itil-foundation Thanks for your feedback.

15-20 images on a page / Alt Tag them or not with the keyword phrase?
I have a site that easily has 15-20 images per product page, giving the users ideas of what they can do with the product design. All of them have an alt tag with the keyword phrase in it. There is also an H1, H2, sometimes an H3, body copy with the keyword phrase 1-3 times, bold when it seems like a good time to emphasize it. Just in the images alone, we've exceeded the recommended 15 keyword phrases on a page. Moz On Page Grader says the following: Avoid Keyword Stuffing in Document We've seen evidence that excessive use of keywords can negatively impact rankings and thus suggest moderation. Recommendation: Remove instances of the targeted keyword(s) from the document text of this page to bring it below 15 What's the recommendation for the image alt tags? We'd like the images to show up in Google Images, so they should have the tag, right? What's the right way to handle this for SEO purposes? Someone's suggested naming 1/2 of the images one keyword phrase, and the other 1/2 an altogether different one, not searched nearly as often as the primary keyword phrase.

Seomoz legacy pages?
Hello, I am finding that I miss several of the old seomoz sections. The legacy tools in particular like the visual website comparison. Where is that now? Also, where is the ongoing list of the top 100 sites? So much was lost in the shift to MOZ, I hope some of the good old stuff is still available. Thank you, Nolan

How to make a Crawl Report readable?
Hi! I am trying to find out how I make my CSV report neat, so I can interprete the report. I know have a CSV report with just numbers and text all in one column. I tried the button text to columns but that doesn't work because when I do that at column A it overwrites column B in which I have the same problem! Thanks

Does SEOmoz have a Keyword Research tool similar to, say, the Google AdWords tool or the WebCEO Keyword Research Tool? And where might that be? (Sorry, I'm very new to SEOmoz Pro.)
I'm looking for an SEOmoz version of the classic WebCEO Keyword Research that would give you effective suggestions based on a keyword inquiry. I've made the switch from WebCEO, but I'm trying to find something similar to that Keyword Research tool. Am I going to just need to use the Google AdWords tool for this function or does SEOmoz have it's own version?

How long has the keyword difficulty tool had these limits in place?
While working against a tight deadline, I was surprised to see the following message: "We're sorry. Currently we are only able to offer results for 300 keywords per user per day. Please come back tomorrow" How long has this limit been in place and is the limit listed anywhere during the signup process? I rarely use this tool for more than 10-20 keywords at a time, so I have not run into this issue before.
