Hiring an SEO account manager in the "new world"

I run a small web design and digital marketing agency but we're growing fast. Since October we've employed 1 web developer and made use of a lot of partnerships to sub contract work out and get it all done.
I'm now ready to employ a person to take on a digital marketing role. I potentially have someone lined up (a strong person) who has a lot of experience with PR & building relationships and she has worked with the two largest local newspaper publishers in our area. Therefore, she has a lot of connections with journalists. She has also run an events company (owned by one of the newspaper publishers) pretty much single handed for the last few years so she has some good experience in that area as far as PR and marketing goes too.
However, the person I am looking for is digital marketing account manager. However, given that SEO is moving away from traditional tactics and more towards content marketing, outreach and PR I though that she might be a good fit after all and then teaching her the digital side. She will be my first employee in the digital marketing team and leading the digital marketing and SEO campaigns.
I'm interested to hear people thoughts on hiring in this way or should I just stick with a traditional SEO person and help them move to the new world? (if they need it).

Thanks Jason. I guess the reason I am asking is because in my heart I know that she's probably not right in this instance but she does have potential in other marketing capacities. I am sure she could be great at certain aspects of SEO but what I need right now is a good all rounder.Thanks very much for your response, it really helped my thinking.

What I have noticed with clients and others is that traditionalists tend to have a harder time to move over towards digital, where as digitalists have an easier time adapting to changing environments. However, this is also dependent on the person themselves. If the traditionalist has a drive to explore the digital side, and they will need to have one otherwise your digital efforts will go to waste, then go ahead and hire that person. If they do not, i would recommend you hire a traditional SEO and push them along as most traditional SEO's have to deal with change everytime Google does an update (about 500 times a year). Those are my two cents. I hope that helps.

Tips for interview with large electronics company / focus on brand magazine?
Hi all, I have a second round of an interview on Tuesday for a large / internationally well known electronics & household appliances company. They are producing an online brand magazine (target group: millennials) with tips on how to use their products, among other things (e.g., how tech makes life easier). I'm not new to writing / content/copy writing, but new to SEO in the grand scheme of things - I have experience in writing blog posts, social media posts, and articles with an SEO focus, and I'm taking a course currently. But the scale on which this would be SEO focused writing is something I don't have direct experience in. The person I interviewed with is the person I'd be working with, and we got along very well - the second interview is with them and their higher up, who I need to convince. However, they did originally want someone SEO focused, so the interviewer asked me to prepare to talk about a variety of things to see my knowledge / what I could research. They include the brand magazine, using SEO with their brand / brand-focused SEO, how the brand can support their magazine, and keeping the SEO organic so the traffic goes there naturally - there isn't a plan to market the magazine on social media. Do you have any tips or resources for this so I can read / watch / learn and speak intelligently on this topic? I have a trial of Moz's pro search bar - anything there that could give me advice on tips to give them? Thanks in advance!

I have created the strategy document for Organic and Email Marketing, I need help with paid advertising. Pointers for an Interview with a Large (3000+ employee) Company?
Hi All, I'm interviewing with the director of SEO of a large enterprise company tomorrow afternoon and would love some pointers. It's a relatively large company with about 3,000+ employees. There are currently 2 people doing SEO exclusively in the company and they are looking to expand the team significantly. As I understand it, my role will be to help out with link building initiatives. I currently work freelance as a content marketer for startups. While I do some onsite optimization and some keyword research, I consider building domain authority by creating quality content that gets links to be my main focus. But link building for a large enterprise may be a little less hands-on than I'm used to. I imagine I'll be working with different departments, namely these ones: Biz Dev Team PR Team SEM Team I imagine there will be some questions about how I would work with these departments to help build links. Any suggestions for working with these other teams? What other questions should I be prepared for? Potential new clients - any tips to enter well armed?
Hi, What are the steps people follow when arranging a meeting with a new client? I've got two meetings next week, and want to arm myself. All previous SEO work I've had so far has just landed on my desk with no need to pitch for it. Whilst I'm no stranger to selling, what steps do other people go through when visiting a potential client? I'd hate to go in after some other SEO company has really pitched well and find myself looking stupid? I obviously have a subscription here, but are there other tools people would recommend?
