Ideal product descriptions. What instructions to give to copywriter?
-
I plan to hire a copywriter to write high quality unique product descriptions for luxury products in one of our ecommerce sites.
Apart from being well written and unique, any suggestions on what specifications to give to copywriter?
E.g. length of text per product, obviously no keyword stuffing, but any instructions regarding keywords? Any good posts or specifications you can refer me to on the topic?thanks

I would second what Everette mentioned about talking to your customers. Write for them and what they want to know. Answer the questions they ask. That way you are not just optimizing for SEO, but for conversions.

Hello Icourse,
The keywords can be tweaked later by your SEO if needed. At this point, other than the top one or two keyword phrases for that product, they should focus on providing visitors with all of the information they will need to make a purchasing decision.
I like to check with customer service to find out what questions people have been asking about various products. For example, if they tell me a lot of customers call in about whether Item A will work with Item D I will be sure to include "Works with Item D." in the product description, perhaps under an FAQ or Specs. tab on the product page. If it is a new site, or if you don't have a customer service department, Q&A sites like Yahoo Answers often provide some good ideas.
In my experience, the more detail the better as long as it is presented well. You don't want one long page of text, but if you can provide all of the specs, options, instructions and details on the product page it will not only help your rankings, but will probably save you money in call center costs.
The more instructions you give a good copywriter the worse their writing will be, in my opinion. If they are professionals (you get what you pay for with copywriting!) and are writing high quality copy about luxury products I would just let them at it in small chunks. You can have your SEO make minor adjustments and recommendations as they go.
I will leave this question open for discussion.

Company name in Site Meta description?
Ok. So I know that you should have your company name in the site title, but is it all that important in the site description? The reason I ask is because I am competing with another company for the #1 position (I was number 1, now #2) that has an 8 character name and mine is 22 taking away from a great deal of real estate in my 150-160 character site description in which I could provide additional information describing my company. Should I remove my name in the site description enabling me to use more descriptive keywords and actionable text such as (Find, research, contact, professional, info) etc. Thanks,

Ecommerce product page duplicate content
Hi, I know this topic has been covered in the past but I haven't been able to find the answers to this specific thing. So let's say on a website, all the product pages contain partial duplicate content - i.e. this could be delivery options or returning policy etc. Would this be classed as duplicate content? Or is this something that you would not get concerned about if it's let's say 5-10% of the content on the page? Or if you think this is something you'd take into consideration, how would you fix it? Thank you!

Product URL
Hey Mozzers, Nice quick and simple one for you. Which of these 2 options is better for SEO and userbility and why domain.co.uk/productname.html
On-Page Optimization | | ATP
domain.co.uk/shop/category/product.html The top one stops stops any funky problems with magento making 2 paths to the same product but the second option feels more natural and helpful to the user. I feel both a valid but I would like some opinions please0 -
Google not displaying my page title and meta description
Google is automatically picking up random text from my page and displaying it in place of the page title and meta description on the SERP. What can I do to avoid this? I want my page title and meta description to show up on the SERP. The url of my website is: wishpicker dot com Thanks in advance!

Category descriptions and magento
Hi Any eCommerce experts out there, please? I run a magento store and am looking to improve the performance of my category pages in the listings, to aid this I have created category descriptions - a hundred or so words about what, for example, a Maxi Dress is, an example can be seen here http:// yochic.co.uk/dress-267864/ maxi.html (I have broken the link as not sure on the linking policy of the forum). I have noticed, however, that this category description is appearing all on sub pages of the section, so it is on page 1,2,3,4 etc. Is this likely to lead to me receiving a penalty for internal duplicate content? The store uses rel="next" in all the category pages, so shouldn't that help limit any problems caused by the duplication of the page descriptions? I notice that when I search for a sub page, 2, 3, 4 etc in Google using the url of page two http://yochic.co.uk/dress-267864/maxi.html?p=2 it returns the first page, so am i right in thinking with the tags that Google sees all the sub pages as being page one. In which case, doesn't that limit my ability to rank for the products listed on pages 2+? Long story short, the site cannot rank it's product pages because the vast majority of the product descriptions are 100% duplicate because the site is an affiliate fashion store. Many thanks Carl
