Integrate a blog within an existing site
-
Hello everyone!
I work on a website of a very small company and so far no one has ever implemented (not even thought about) a proper content strategy. The only content on the site are products description.
Through Analytics I discovered lots of opportunities and topics to be covered which would massively increase the traffic, increase the engagement and (hopefully) sales.
Problem is that I don't really know how to integrate a blog into the existing site; my first thought was wordpress
What is the best way to do it?

The website, an e-commerce site, uses a custom built CMS with no blog modules so I have to create it and I thought would be easier to implement a wordpress blog.
@Chris thanks for sharing those posts, I will look into it. Also I will have to talk to the developer of the site and see also if wordpress could actually fit the CMS.

you may find this old website helpful - http://jonathanwold.com/tutorials/wordpress_integration/
And this - http://codex.wordpress.org/Integrating_WordPress_with_Your_Website
Simple version you just need to have www.yourwebsite.com/blog and you would install the blog in the /blog directory.
there are loads of tutorials about for doing it if your a one man team. Having a blog is always a nice way to reach out to your customers / clients and get them to connect. A lot of people use Wordpress so that should be a good start for you along with there being lots of support for it.
There are also some great topics about content etc. you can read for your blog.
Hope this helps, Good luck.

I generally do wordpress. I like using a sub domain, but I think a lot of people suggest using the main domain for ranking power. What is your current site built in, a lot of the e-commerce platforms now have blog modules which might actually be your best bet.

Aggregator/comparitor site outranking us
Hi I would like to know if anyone has experience with trying to outrank an aggregator/comparitor website. We are being beat by one that also includes our range of products in their comparisons and I was wondering if there was a smart way around this?

How do you treat http/https and slashes at the end of a site?
I believe there is a difference between http://www.abc.com vs https://www.abc.com I also know that it shows security and whatnot, but how do you treat it? Do you submit both? Do you re-direct one to the other? What if you have had the non-secure site for years and the links are mostly crawled? My second question is similar as my report shows these two as different: http://www.abc.com/blog vs http://www.abc.com/blog/ I didn't think it made a difference, but when I submitted the links to Google it would not accept them without the slash at the end. Again, the same questions as above in regards to how to treat it. Do you submit both? Do you re-direct one to the other? What if you have had the non-slash site for years and the links are mostly crawled? -What about http://www.abc.com vs http://abc.com ? They go to the same page, but are they treated the same?

Internal Linking From Blog to Website
Hi all, I'm just seeking opinions on something an external company have told us about linking from our blog to our website... Our website is; www.XYZ.com and our blog is www.XYZ.com/blog I add content to the blog on an almost daily basis and generally link on average 3 times from the blog (internally) to a various relevant pages on our website. Today I was told that by doing this I am 'diluting' the link juice which I understand but don't agree with... All I am doing is a form of internal linking which as far as I am aware is a good on-page technique? Just curious to learn other people's view on this... Many thanks Andy

Duplicate Content from on Competitor's site?
I've recently discovered large blocks of content on a competitors site that has been copy and pasted from a client's site. From what I know, this will only hurt the competitor and not my client since my guy was the original. Is this true? Is there any risk to my client? Should we take action? Dino

Duplicate product information on ecommerce site
I am planning to launch an ecommerce website soon. There is no way to start with the original content for such a small startup like me. It's pretty expensive to get original content for 1000 (around) products. You know, there are a lot of other costs such as, software licences, modules, developer, designer fees, wholesale purchases, monthly subscription for services etc... This is what i am planning to do: Start with duplicate manufacturers' or amazon's product description, meta tags etc. Then gradually turn them into an original one. I assume, google will give me a low score due to duplicate content but, if i start with duplicate content first, and then change with the original ones over the time, will this change my score?

Time on Site vs Bounce Rate Question
If you follow my questions here on SEOMoz, you know that we have quite a few issues with a particular site. http://bit.ly/RE8V2a Our bounce rate was over 85% for quite some time. We changed the site template and the Bounce Rate has dropped to around 5%, but the Time on Site has dropped dramatically. We were just over two minutes, now we're averaging 1:34. But here's the thing, time spent on the Home Page is averaging 24 seconds! What would you take away from this? Thanks so much!

Linking within Secondary Site
So we've got a secondary site that has quite a bit of authority & links that used to have all types of info on parasailing. All those pages are gone and homepage is now a salespage (management decision, not mine) Our main site sells a wide range of tours and activities and does have a page for parasailing. The secondary site uses the same template/navigation as our main site (again, not my decision). Do you think that's an effective way to send link juice to our main site? The secondary site has some pretty awesome high authority sites linking to it. I've considered 301'ing the whole site to our main site but it's got a really solid domain name and I'd like to take up 2 SERP listings (main and secondary site) Is there a better way to have double listings but still send a good amount of link juice?
