301 juice from my old website to the new one?
-
Hi there!
I am the proud webmaster of two websites, my old one: bioenergeticaconvicen.wordpress.com, currently with decent rankings in Google Spain (as bioenergeticaconvicen.com without the www, if i am not mistaken) on keywords like "Bioenergetica", "bioenergetica barcelona" "formacion en bioenergetica" "bioenergetica transpersonal" -You got the idea. and my new one, "www.biomayeutika.org" , wordpress as well, with somehow decent rankings on "centro de bioenergetica" "bioenergetica" etc. It's a health an spiritual business: we dance, breath and mainly just feel our bodies without trying to control anything that happens. Cool
It's a very local business, aiming mostly for people from Barcelona/Catalonia but also for people from the rest of Spain.
a) I guess my main question is just how to pass the old "SEO juice" to the new website. Currently, there's just a link on the old one pointing to the new one.
b) Will I somehow merge the rankings of the two?
c) How do i do a 301? which pages? With a wordpress plugin?
Thanks very much in advance for your help.
P.D.: Secondarily, I am open to suggestions on how to improve my SEO strategy (currently, none :)) I am very active in Facebook and have a few good videos and pictures, but I haven't really tried to do good SEO.

Sorry. I'm not familiar enough with Wordpress.com's options.
-
Oh old blog is bioenergeticaconvicen.com which is in a wordpress.com bioenergeticaconvicen.wordpress.com .. it's migrated to www.biomayeutika.org .
Unfortunately old site is wordpress.com ... any suggestions? Thanks!!

Good questions. You understand correctly. Unfortunately, I don't have a Wordpress recommendation. I've always used a .htaccess file for redirects, not worked directly in Wordpress. So, I don't have a recommendation. I'm sure someone in Moz does, though.

Thanks very much Kurt!
One last thing. What is the best way to do this canonical stuff with wordpress sites?
If I understood it correctly, I have to
a) set up canonical tags on both the new and the old site pointing to the new page
b) copy content from old site to old site
c) set 301,'s from old site to new site from each and every URL to the new one.
Any good doc to help me?
You have a Good answer anyway!
Thanks!

It sounds like you need to setup 301 redirects for the old site to the new site. If the content of the old site is still good, I'd recommend adding it to the new site. Setup canonical tags on the old and new sites indicating that the canonical URL is the one on the new site. After a couple of days/weeks you should start seeing the rankings from the old site shift to the new one. Then 301 redirect the old site's page to the same page on the new site. Any pages on the old site that do not have a directly correlating page on the new site can be 301 redirected to the page on the new site that is most closely related to it or just redirect to the homepage of the new site.
You will need to keep the old site up for at least 6 months to give time for the search engines to log all the redirects. After that, you can delete it if you really want to or just keep it up. It's redirecting all traffic, so it's not like you have to worry about maintaining the site.
You're probably not going to see a perfect shift of rankings from the old site to the new, but you will see some and most of the page authority of the old site should be transferred to the new site. It should also be noted that if both sites currently rank well for certain keywords, redirecting the old site to the new site will most likely not result in the new site having two rankings for the keyword, but rather one of the rankings will drop. Unless it's a very noncompetitive keyword, Google tries to only list a site once in the top 10.
I hope that helps.

Hi,
but do I have to keep paying for the domain? Do I delete the contents? It's really difficult, because some rankings are from the blog. I don't know, Im still confused.

Hi Roybatti,
You can't really pass the juice over, but if this is just an old website and domain that you want to change over to the new one, redirecting each page to the new url would be one step. Then the new site would get the hits and eventually get it's own rankings. You can't transfer or merge the rankings, but you can concentrate on the new site to make it visible.
You can try http://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-301-redirects/.

Hey!
My old website was a personal project of Bioenergetics with a design I didnt like and not-so-good information structure, but it ranks pretty well nevertheless because there is a lot of text and people would come there through my facebook marketing. I no longer maintain it, because now my personal project has developed into Biomayeutika, which I run with 2 more people. It's no longer "bioenergetics with Vicen", but biomayeutika or bio+ as we affectionate call it.
There's a lot of text that ranks pretty well in the old site bioenergeticaconvicen.com
As I see it now, I have several choices, but I don't know which one to choose.
a) keep the old site as it is and 301' bioenergeticaconvicen.com ---> www.biomayeutika.org Can I do that? With wordpress plugins maybe?
b) keep it as it is. Visitors to the old site get this message saying this domain is no longer maintained and my new website is www.biomayeutika.org, but I fear I might lose some people and anyway I thought you could somehow "merge" the rankings of the two
c) Delete the content and domain of the oldsite and somehow move it to my new one.
d) Other options?
The thing is, I haven't 301' before and I am a little confused. My idea is to try to rank higher for my main website, biomayeutika.org, but I don't know if google just "deletes" the contents of the old one and how the rankigs for some words would be affected....
I hope I made myself clearer this time. The problem is surely my lack of knowledge in this field. Thanks!

Roybatti,
What is your goal with the two sites? Do you want to keep them separate or is your plan to eliminate to old one--and why?

Multilang site: Auto redirect 301 or 302?
We need to establish if 301 or 302 response code is to be used for our auto redirects based on Accept-Language header. https://domain.com
International SEO | | fJ66doneOIdDpj
30x > https://domain.com/en
30x > https://domain.com/ru
30x > https://domain.com/de The site architecture is set up with proper inline HREFLANG.
We have read different opinions about this, Ahrefs says 302 is the correct one:
https://ahrefs.com/blog/301-vs-302-redirects/
302 redirect:
"You want to redirect users to the right version of the site for them (based on location/language)." You could argue that the root redirect is never permanent as it varies based on user language settings (302)
On the other hand, the lang specific redirects are permanent per language: IF Accept-Language header = en
https://domain.com > 301 > https://domain.com/en
IF Accept-Language header = ru
https://domain.com > 301 > https://domain.com/ru So each of these is 'permanent'. So which is the correct?0 -
Correct Hreflang & Canonical Tags for Multi-Regional Website English Language Only having URL Parameters
Dear friends, We have a multi-regional website in English language only having the country selector on the top of each page and it adds countrycode parameters on each url. Website is built in Magento 1.8 and having 1 store with multiple store views. There is no default store set in Magento as I discussed with developer. Content is same for all the countries and only currency is changed. In navigation there are urls without url parameters but when we change store from any page it add parameters in the url for same page hence there are total 7 URLs. 6 URLs for each page (with country parameters) and 1 master url (without parameters) and making content duplicity. We have implemented hreflang tags on each page with url parameters but for canonical we have implemented master page url as per navigation without url parameters Example on this page. I think this is correct for master page but we should use URL parameters in canonical tags for each counry url too and there should be only 1 canonical tag on each country page url. Currently all the country urls are having master page canoncial tag as per the example. Please correct me if I am wrong and **in this case what has to be done for master page? **as google is indexing the pages without parameters too. We are also using GEOIP redirection for each store with country IP detection and for rest of the countries which are not listed on the website we are redirecting to USA store. Earlier it was 301 but we changed it to 302. Hreflang tags are showing errors in SEMRush due to redirection but in GWT it's OK for some pages it's showing no return tags only. Should I use **x-default tags for hreflang and country selector only on home page like this or should I remove the redirection? **However some of the website like this using redirection but header check tool doesn't show the redirection for this and for our website it shows 302 redirection. Sorry for the long post but looking for your support, please.

Best process to 301 ecommerce store?
Hi, We have decided to segment our products and languages on to different country tlds. I know how to 301, but I am curious as to how I should actually do this, in what order to do it. Let's call the existing site with all products on OLDsite, and the new tld, where the products will also appear NEWsite. I am thinking of: Setting up NEWsite, but no sitemap. On launch of NEWsite, 301 all products on OLDsite to NEWsite (they will no longer appear on OLDsite) After some time, add sitemap, google verification in GWT, etc... on NEWsite. My thinking is that if I launch NEWsite and notify Google it will index the same products and content as OLDsite, and not necessarily check the 301 right? Which could lead to dupe content issues... Any ideas? We are only redirecting part of the site, so not all of it. Thanks!

What are the best practices for translation of city/state names for international SEO? (ie. New York in English vs. Nueva York in Spanish)
I'm working on international SEO / translation of a global travel site. While we have a global keyword research and translation strategy in process for each market they serve, I've run into a unique question. Overall, we are translating (and localizing) content for each market but aren't sure what to do with location names. Each country/state has cities and locations that have their own dedicated pages. I see three options for these location names (when titling a page and writing content): keep them in English, translate the names in the market languages, or use a combination of the two. The challenge with altering the location names to the market languages is that they are truly not known by those names. Though there are some instances where it may make sense…for instance **New York **in Spanish would be "Nueva York" with **‘**Nueva' being the Spanish translation of ‘new’. There are other instances, where no translation exists. If you’ve had a similar experience I'd love to hear your approach/recommendation.

3 month old site lost almost complete traffic overnight
Hi All, I started a Indian coupon and deal site http://www.couponspy.in/ around 3 month ago and traffic increased almost daily. But yesterday my site lost almost all of its traffic. Keywords which ranked 1-5 lost around 4-15 places and keywords which ranked 6-20 lost ca. 20-50 places. The Moz Crawl Diagnostics doesn't indicate any mayor issues. Has there been a Google Panda update in India? Reasons why my site has been affected? Please help!!!! 😉 I have seen the same traffic decrease on other coupon start ups, eg https://www.cuponation.in/ and https://www.cuponation.in/ Did we all make the same mistake? Any guesses?

Interlinking 60 ccTLD country versions of website
We will be launching 60 new ccTLD country versions of an established core website.
International SEO | | lcourse
Quality, human translated content in 35 languages.
We have a CSS dropdown menu with the 60 country flags and country/language name as anchor text. Formatted as deeplinks to the corresponding pages in the 60 country versions, that we planned to add on each page. How would you recommend to implement the interlinking between these 60 ccTLD? My concerns are: won't we dillute the link value of our links in the main page content too much with links to 60ccTLD on each page? may we trigger a google penalty as the new ccTLD have no other links yet and each page will have the same anchor text and links from exactly the same 60 domains. would you place the country dropdown rather at the bottom of the page (e.g. footer) to avoid that google will not crawl all links in main content page. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated1 -
Homepage and 301.
Hello. A question about the home page url. Because i'm switching my site to multiple TLDs domains. But i can't remove my language prefix path. I'm doing a: Redirect 301 / /fr in my htaccess. Does it have disadvantages for Google eye's . And a second question. If i put out there links, which url will be better, the domain , or the domain/fr Thanks.
