I changed the {Site Name} of our domain slightly and capitalized a letter. The impact 48 hours later on SEO is really, really bad. How long does it take to recapture our prior rankings and should I change the site name back to the original? The {site name} was at the end of every page title.
Thanks for any help/advice on this. We worked so hard to get our business on the first page for many keywords and "POOF" we are gone now.

Just to clarify, you're talking about changing the title tag when you mean site name, and not the URL? Changing the URL (even just capitalization) could have an effect.
-
Thanks, how do I PM you my site?
-
As i think there is something else going wrong, Linck ...
Like above peter said, may be there is mistake done by you while changing the website title. You must again check what happens. Or just PM me the site and keywords i will analyze it for you. Thank
-
I agree with Peter, changing the capitalization of your titles isn't going to have that kind of an influence. The fact that one of the blocks on your site was down is far more likely to have an impact on this as this changed the structure of the page in a greater way. I get your frustration, I think most of us have been there > done that.
-
Hi Linck
I think it is extremely unlikely that doing this would have killed your rankings in two days.
It's more likely a coincidence with something else that has happened. Think through anything you have done in the last 2-3 weeks that could have had an impact, check your Webmaster Tools Reports and make sure Google are not reporting any issues.
Peter

What are the most effective SEO methods for online communities and forums?
My company has a global online community of over 350,000+ members. We allow users to submit articles revolving around the scrum and agile framework. Sometimes the submissions become overwhelming and I am curious if there is anyone out there who may have experience with this same scenario. I don't want to place meta data on every single article that comes in, because I don't have the resources nor time to optimize each and every article. Does anyone have techniques or suggestions in regards to either leaving the meta data untouched or customizing each individual piece? Any thoughts or ideas will be extremely helpful. Thanks

Should I issue a change of address for my demo site which has been indexed?
The web design company tasked with building a company website have a demo site which reflects the live site - as the site is constantly being developed and needs to be tested by numerous uses, removing the demo site is not an option. The demo site is a subdomain of the live site: demo.mysite.com The demo site has been indexed by Google as the web design company didn't add a robots.txt file disallowing all. The demo site was indexed 3 years before I started working at the company. My first action was to add a robots.txt file disallowing all, I then added a noindex and nofollow meta tag into the header of all files on the demo area - this has prevented any new pages from being indexed but the original pages of the site are still in Google index. Do you think I should add the demo subdomain (demo.mysite.com) into Google Webmaster and issue a change of address pointing to the actual website (www.mysite.com) or is this going to cause problems? All thoughts, opinions and recommendations are very much appreciated.

Wrong Descriptions for Title's on Google SERP?
I put descriptions in for each of my product categories a couple months ago and a few of my category pages rank high. The problem is that most of my category pages have the wrong meta description on the SERP. The descriptions that are shown sometimes have the home page description, which isn't a big deal, but some have descriptions of different products and most have descriptions of sub categories. Below is an example of a subcategory description (specialty feeders) for a main category: Co-matic Power Feeders - Products - Shop Gear Inc <cite>www.shopgearinc.com/products/co-matic-power-feeders/</cite>Specialty Feeders. Specialty Co-matic feeders are built for use on a variety of machines and for specific operations. Shop Gear supplies a variety of specialty **...****Any Suggestions?**Thanks

Difference Between www.domain.com and www.domain.com/ ?
Hi, Of course, it is obvious that when other sites link to you, they choose how to do so in terms of the anchor text. My questions is: 1. Most of the domain names I see on the web are: www.domain.com/ however, I am pretty sure that when someone thinks you have a site that there members can benefit by they will link to: www.domain,com , am I coorect in stating that the search engines (SE) see these as two separate and distinct domains? 2. If so, are these too, then these must be different and distinct as well: www.domain.com/best-service vs. www.domain.com/best-service/ **I went on that assumption and have created 301 directs for the latter example. ** 3. How would one check to see if a 301 direct is in place? As always, I am appreciated to this site and member's skills. Jim
