Website No Longer Ranking In Google:
-
My website was on first page google couple of months ago, now nothing. Shows up in Bing page one. Some queries/pages still showing OK, but some not at all. Example "residential elevators illinois" found nowhere. http://www.accesselevator.net is the website. Have found 900 poor quality links and used disavow tool. Any further suggestions? Their Page Rank also went from a 3 to a 2. Implemented nofollow on all outgoing links. Need advice.

Thanks Alan, Wigas and Tommy for your in-depth responses. Really appreciate the insight!
Alan - no notifications on Webmaster Tools. Feel like I'm between a rock and hard place with the spammy links. Google does say if you upload another file it will completely override the first disavow file, so perhaps I should consider uploading a new file with only a couple of bad links, thereby negating the original file with over 800 spammy links.
Wigas - Crawled through Moz showing over 100 critical fixes including configuring attachments as no follow/no index with redirect to main site. Need to work on improving the backlinking!
Tommy - Disavow is just a mystery. Bottom line probably is if you don't have any warning notice in Webmaster Tools, don't disavow, just improve. Will revisit title-tags and image weights for sure to improve response time.
Certainly have a big mess to clean up!
Thanks again!

Hi Joanne,
Another possible reason is that some of the so-called poor quality backlinks are actually the reason why you were ranked on the first page. However, after Disavowing these links could have caused you to drop in ranking. For that reason, many people don't recommend using Disavow tool outright but try to remove the links manually first.
In addition to the above suggestions, maybe try the following:
- Add separators in the title tag to separate keywords
- Image Weight - you can either use Google's Tool or WebPageTest to check out the speed of your site and what needs to improve
-
Hey Joanne,
Your website could be victim of Penguin 2.1 (launched on 4th Oct, 2013) Lets analyze possible issues with your back-links
Back-links Analysis
- Money Anchors: This is the biggest issue of all. More than 50% of anchors are money: http://screencast.com/t/jC8wtH6Ijwj. This is not a desirable situation
- No Social Shares: Hardly any social shares: http://screencast.com/t/IUSEORZ69o
- Most of links From Directories and Social Book-marks: This is not an ideal situation. good to be divers. Few Guest Posts, Few Press Releases, Few Local Directories, Few Business Directories.
Starting with disavowing is good but disavow could further lower rankings and you are going to lose link juice. So, buid quality links to make amends for it.
Additionally few On Page Tweaks can help
- Title Tags are over-optimized. More than 70 characters
- Try to crawl your website through Moz and find other SEO Issues regarding Meta, Content, Semantic, Images etc
- Product Categories making things duplicate (Agree with Alan)
- Loading Speed needs some work
- Making your website responsive will be another good thing
- Hardly any internal linking. Need to improve it
I hope that will help
Regards

There could be many reasons the site has lost rankings.
Does Google Webmaster Tools report that the site has been manually penalized for bad links? (check both the "site messages" section and the "Search Traffic / Manual Actions" section in GWT).
What about other factors like on-site problems such as topical dilution? When I view the Residential Elevators page there's a lot of content that has nothing to do with "residential elevators", let alone that the company has experience installing residential elevators in Wisconsin or Illinois. For example all the "Recent News" sidebar content, and all the "Our Product Categories" content on the lower portion of the page severely dilutes the unique content of the page. As a result, there's likely not enough depth for the primary focus of the page.
This is made worse by the fact that that sidebar and lower portion content is duplicated across the site. The end result for just this one factor is that important pages are likely being considered "thin" overall.
Another major problem that could be contributing to the loss of rankings is site page processing speed. My test of the home page showed fourteen seconds - Google has the ideal page processing speed for an individual page at between one and three seconds. Such slow processing harms overall trust and quality.
There could be a dozen other issues impacting the site's rankings as well, such as , however those were the first few I found that all need addressing.

How to rank for a keyword
Hi guys, I'm looking to rank a new blog for a search term which we currently already rank #1 for. I want to create a blog which provides a better solution to a searchers query and knock our current #1 page for this new one. Is there a way to do this simply without losing the real-estate the currently ranked #1 page has already accumulated? Or is just a matter of working on this new blog to find it's own way to the top? Thanks in advance, James

Site experiencing drop in Google rankings and organic traffic after redesign.
Hello, The company that I work for recently implemented a complete redesign for our company website. The former site was old, cumbersome and in desperate need of an update. We streamlined the site structure and made sure to redirect as many pages as we could find to new thematically related pages with 301 redirects. After the launch of our new site we saw a large upswing in "soft" 404 errors despite the fact that most of these pages do redirect upon inspection. So in relation to the soft 404s, for example, is it merely a matter of labeling them as fixed if they redirect properly, or could their be an underling issue with the site itself? Also, a majority or the urls labeled "not found" in webmaster tools are properly redirected. Do these merely need to be marked as fixed, or is there something else that needs to be fixed like the sitemap structure? I appreciate any and all input. Beyond Indigo

Ranking Google News - 3 digits in URL?
Do we need to have unique 3 digits in URL, like stated here in technical guidelines from Google -- https://support.google.com/news/publisher/answer/40787?hl=en&ref_topic=4359866. Or, is having and submitting Google News XML Sitemap a way around that -- https://support.google.com/news/publisher/answer/68323?hl=en

Dropped from Google?
My website www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk appears to have been penalised by Google. I ranked fairly well for a number of venue related searches from my blog posts. Generally I'd find myself somewhere on page one or towards the top of page two. However recently I found I am nowhere to be seen for these venue searches. I still appear if I search for my name, business name and keywords in my domain name. A quick check of Yahoo and I found I am ranking very well, it is only Google who seem to have dropped me. I looked at Google webmaster tools and there are no messages or clues as to what has happened. However it does show my traffic dropping off a cliff edge on the 19th July from 850 impressions to around 60 to 70 per day. I haven't made any changes to my website recently and hadn't added any new content in July. I haven't added any new inbound links either, a search for inbound links does not show anything suspicious. Can anyone shed any light on why this might happen?

Bing still not listing my site after 3 weeks, Google ranks very very low
I am scared that somehow the search engines are penalizing me for something, but I don't know what. The site can be found at http://www.hypnotherapy-guide.com It is a business directory/advice/guide site listing a lot of hypnotherapists (9000). Is it possible that such a large site popping up over night is flagged by the SE as spam? I don't know what I am doing wrong.

My PR 4 website won't rank for keywords that have very weak competition
I bought a real 1Yr old PR4 domain and used it to make a blog that would rank easily for new trending keywords (Ex: product launch keywords). I used Yoast SEO and made sure I did all the on-page recommendations it gave me and had linklicious ping the post and a couple high PR backlinks that I gave the page, but it won't even rank page 10 let alone index. My domain is indexed and the home page links to my post. I know a average amount of SEO but I hate doing it because stuff like this frustrates me. Can someone help me? Do I need to get certain backlinks? Is there a way to get my site and post to index faster? BTW the keywords i'm trying to rank for have websites that are brand spanking new some of them are blogspot websites. Most of them don't have a single backlink to them.

No longer showing for 'money' phrases but long tail combinations rank high?
I hope someone can shed some light on this as I've been pulling my hair out so much there's hardly any left! Background: 12 year old website that for about 10 years had Top 3 rankings for 100's of phrases but rankings first dropped off August 2011. Panda seemed to be the cause but finding the exact issue is hard. We are an online travel agent and every hotel page has duplicate content copied from other websites. This has not been changed although lots of sections in the site still rank well, so do the hotel pages themselves. Lots of internal duplicate issues have been resolved but with no effect. Our old style link, link, link all day long with our 2-word main key phrase as anchor text has given us an unnatural backlink profile but no message has been left by G about this in WMT (yet). Internal link structure is poor with all pages linking back to the homepage with our 'money' 2-word phrase in 3 places. Penguin wiped two thirds of all our backlinks back in May 2012. Why then, do we still rank for our 'money' phrase on the homepage when it has some extra words included and becomes long tail? e.g. CityName Apartments (money phrase) - Now ranks page 2-3 CityName Apartments to rent for the night - Ranks #2 on Google in all countries To make things more confusing other pages rank really well for similar money phrase e.g. CityName Apartments Offers - Ranks 2nd on 185,000,000 results (not homepage) It seems only the homepage is effected (where 95% of inbound links point) but if the site wide duplicates or unnatural link profile was flagged it would effect more than one page of the site. Wouldn't it?
