Other country TLD's for US product

We have a product ( Example: Car ) where all of the TLD's for North America (Example: Car.com, Car.net, etc) have been taken. I've found several for TLD's like .IT, .LA, .AG, etc. If I purchased those and launched sites under those TLD's in the US on servers here in the US and marketed the same as a North American TLD, do you see any issues with this regarding SEO challenges? My first suggestion is ensure there are no genericTLD's available for your product/service. (.org, .info, .co, etc.). If they are not available, one that is treated by many as a generic even though it is a ccTLD is .io. Even Google looks at it as a generic.
You would then set your geographic target as US in GWMT. Go to your site in GWMT and in the top right corner there is a gear symbol you click on. It will give you three choices and site settings is the one you want. In site settings the first item is Geographic Target. Set if for the US and then rock and roll.

I would stick to trying to find a ccTLD that is US based, if you are going to be operating in the US. Buying ccTLD for other countries and trying to rank those in the US/CAN marketplace would be, essentially, VERY difficult and require extra long hours of link building strategy (content development, news, media, etc) to even consider ranking a high level ccTLD from another country in the US index, and for a top ranking.
I would not recommend this strategy, even around top level country domains outside the US (These countries also have strict rules and are usually specific to each country) about purchasing ccTLD's from areas you don't reside in, or have an 'administrative contact' address for. The geolocation issues associated with this are a problem too.
UNLESS, you have a company already up and running, buy a ccTLD from another country, are moving your companies based of operations to that country, could release press and news media about the move, and why - doing this will have little benefit and the work involved in ranking it, US based, would be much more than it's worth with regards to an advantage weight.
Also - just to note that KW rich domains don't outrank brand counterparts anymore, as Google has removed weight in their value. Sure they still rank and are here and there in the index, but I seldom, if ever see KW rich domains dominating the search index now. Sounds like it's a new domain, and either way, you are going to have to develop one heck of a digital marketing strategy around it, to build up the sites domain and page authority (links).
Best bet is to find a US based ccTLD and move towards building a brand around it, from within the US. Take the time to effectively build something of value that will WOW people, and have them coming back for more

Why are some regions/countries not indexing correctly?
Hi All, Recently I've added different regions (website.com/se/ etc) to Google search console and pointed them to their relevant countries, but only half are working when I search from a regions IP with a VPN and use the correct Google search ( Google.se etc ). What's the best homepage experince for an international site?
Greeting Mozzers. I have a question for the community, which I would appreciate your input on. If you have a single gTLD that services multiple countires, what do you think is the best homepage UX for the root homepage and why? So the example would be you own website www.company.org and target content to Germany, Japan and Australia with content through the folder structure eg. www.company.org/de-de If someone comes to the www.company.org from a region, would you: Redirect them based on location IP – so if from Germany they land on www.company.org/de-de Let them land on the homepage which offers location selection Let them land on a page with content and offer location selection eg. pop-up or obvious selection box Something I’ve not thought of… I'd appreciate your input. Soft Launch App with Country Targeting To Match?

We're gearing up to do a soft launch of our app in a few countries, such as Australia. Our website says to request early access since the app is not yet publicly available in the apple store. However, it will be in those soft launch countries. This is what I'm considering... Creating a subdomain site such as au.liquidtext.net (liquidtext.au is not available). And setting that site, au.liquidtext.net, to be country targeted to Australia via webmaster tools. Once the app is available internationally, and the main site has been updated to show this, I would then redirect any subdomains to the main site. Thoughts? Are there any negative repercussions to this this approach that I am not considering? Thank you for your help Moz community!! Tina0 -
'Mini' versions of our website for overseas markets. Does it matter?
Hi Guys. I work for an e-commerce site called TOAD Diaries, we make bespoke diaries and journals. In essence we allow people to design their own diary online, then we make it and send it. We have already sold some products to poeple in many European countries, (Malta, France, Germany) but we want to have a better online presence for those overseas markets. So….. We're want to do an overseas ‘test case’, to see if we can sell more products in Europe. Out thinking is this: We’ll buy a subdomain for a specific country. Then we’ll then build a ‘mini’ version of our site in the appropriate language. This be a country specific landing page with links to our ‘design your own diary’ pages, basket and checkout. All in the language we’re targeting. Question: Will having such a small number of pages in the targeted countries language effect out ability to rank well? It will be maybe 10 – 15 pages in size. Or is it much more to do with on page optimization and quality backlinks? i.e) the site's size has no impact. What other factors should we consider when trying to rank well in other European countries? Many thanks in advance.

Google Directory Listings in multiple countries
I was doing some competitive link research and one of the sites I was looking at has links in multiple Google Directories of other countries. By that I mean a listing in: www.google.pl www.google.hu www.google.pt www.google.co.nz www.google.ie www.google.com.sg www.google.vg and a few others It seemed kind of odd because the site getting these links is a ranch in Oregon. Here is the Open Site Explorer info. I'm a bit of a noob so I've never seen this before. Are these kinds of links worth pursuing? If so, how did they get these multiple listings?

Link Building in russian speaking countries
Hello, We are an international company, based mostly in Romania and Hungary, but we also launched some websites in Ukraine. The interesting thing in Ukraine that we are facing heavily, is how they are doing link building. Basically the only link building that they do is buying links through a platform: sape.ru (http://www.mainlinkads.com/ this is English version). Local SEO consultants also advice to buy links. It wasn't so much a problem, but when you have a good site with good content, but have competitors that are buying links and then overcome our good keyword positions, we started to questions whether to start buying links ourselves. What is your opinion on this? Is it possible that Google will penalize a big bunch of sites, now in sape.ru there are: 487 069 sites? Can we adopt the same strategy as our competitors as long as it is working? Thanks, Irina
