SEO changing from Wix Flash too Wix HTML
-
I have a Wix flash website www.theonlinefloorwarehouse.com.au which is number one in Google search for most of our main products
Due to having a large number of changes and the draw backs with flash I pads etc I have rebuilt it in Wix HTML temporarily under this URL www.laminateflooringperth.net.au/
Now I find out Wix uses Ajax technology which most people say is useless for SEO
after months of work I do not know weather to switch to the HTML site or not
perhaps I should use both sites ?
Has any one switched to HTML from Flash, was there a drop in or higher rankings ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Regards
John

Hi John,
Typically when you switch from Flash to HTML, you'll see a nice bump in organic traffic as search engines have a hard time with most flash sites.
In your case, you are using the hash bang to deliver content to users and the escaped fragments to deliver content to search engines on your new site. While this should be ok, it isn't always. It should be more effective for you than your main current site though. SEO-Browser is a good tool to simulate how a search engine would see your site. You can see your old site here (note, from the cached version it appears that Google is actually accessing some of your flash content) and your new site here.
Ideally, you'd have a site that relies entirely on HTML/CSS to display your content to users. In your case, I'd feel comfortable updating the main site to the new version. A couple notes here -
- make sure you remove the noindex tag from the new site when you transition from the old site to the new site
- you shouldn't have the two sites accessible by search engines at the same time as they utilize much of the same content
I've never heard of anyone going to a Wix site for SEO. If you want to use a simple CMS that is good for SEO, I'd recommend WordPress.

Is it detrimental to make a site wide change from .html to .shtml (all pages)?
We have an established website with decent domain authority. My developer inherited the site from another developer and is recommending that we convert all pages from the .html to the .shmtl From an SEO perspective, would this hurt us? Also, if this is not an issue, would updating the canonical help us, or does the canonical setting only deal with the "www." vs. "non-www"? Any insights will be appreciated greatly. Thanks!

seo moz crawl diagnosis
Hi seomozzers, We are creating a brand new website for a client and I would like to run an seo moz crawl to fix what has been done wrong. So my question is it ok to run an SEO moz crawl with a dev URL? Are final URLs and dev URLs will give me the same results or not? Basically, Should I wait for getting the final URL or is it ok to run a crawl under a dev URL such as www.dev2.example.com or http://183.2564.2864? Thank you 🙂

Changing .html to .asp in URLs
Hi Mozzers, I have a question. The webmaster of a client of mine needs to make changes to some files which will effect the URL's. Essentially everything is staying the same but the end of the URL will change from .html to .asp. This is because the site will be dynamically loading content (perhaps from a database) (i.e. latest news to come from their blog etc..) In order to do this we would need to change the filenames of the whole website. (i.e. personnel.html would become personel.asp). Changing URLs can harm indexation but a small change to the end - would Google drop these pages? A 301 redirect is not possible from old URL to new. What impact would this have on Rankings? Thanks Gareth
