QuickView and NoFollow
-
One of the sites I manage has QuickView pages for many or most of the products it sells. These ordinarily appear as hover icons, but they also exist as individual pages. The QuickView pages are listed as "Issues" in Moz, and they only have snippets of HTML code.
Would it be possible to take the QuickView pages off of the search engine index by using a NoFollow function? Thank you.

Hello David,
In the case of http://www.godirectappliance.com/ajax/product/quickview/id/734/ I would simply add a disallow statement for the/ ajax/product/quickview/ directory in the robots.txt file.
I'm assuming the URLs to these pages are contained in javascript instead of href tags since they are hover-over pages so you don't have to worry about wasting pagerank by linking to pages that are being blocked.
I'm not recommending a block at the /ajax/ or /ajax/product/ level at this point because I don't know what else is in those directories. It could be something you need Google to have access to in order to fully index a page.

Perhaps it would be useful for you to use robots.txt then?
The meta tag is always preferred but if that is too much work since it need to be done manually this could be your answer. To answer your question:
You keep talking about a no follow. This just means that no PageRank will be passed to those pages or from these pages. As i understood the problem i thought you wanted to get them out of the search results completely. This would require a no index. You could use a function in Magento to add a meta tag with NoFollow to everything within folder. As i said before, the meta tag is always preferred since search engines don't have to listen to a robots.txt file. But it might just work for you.

If you want pages not to be indexed by search engines you should 'noindex' them.
This can be done by placing the following code snippet in the head of your HTML code:
Is this what you're searching for?

Directory concerns - am I right to request nofollow?
A client had taken a free trial on a directory - a niche directory which only takes food related websites. They mentioned, in passing, that the directory listing was replicated across 90 food-relevant "partner" sites [alarm bells!] - some of which use nofollow - some which don't, apparently. The main directory doesn't use nofollow and offers a mix of monthly-fee based listings or free listings. I've demanded a nofollow backlink from the main site and partner sites, or no backlink... what are your thoughts?

Should party services directory switch to nofollow links? What are the implications?
Hello Mozzers, I'm looking at a niche party services directory (b2c). However, they're not using nofollow tags on backlinks from their paid entries (free entries only get phone numbers and not backlinks). If they suddenly switch all the paid-for backlinks in their directory to nofollow, might that have some kind of negative impact. Switching sounds like the best way forward, but I want to avoid any unintended consequences. Thanks in advance, Luke

Can using nofollow on magento layered navigation hurt?
Howdy Mozzers! We would like to use no follow, no index on our magento layered navigation pages after any two filters are selected. (We are using single filter pages as landing page, so we would liked them indexed) Is it ok to use nofollow, noindex on these filter pages? Are there disadvantages of using nofollow on internal pages? Matt mentioned refraining from using nofollow internally https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SAPUx4Beh8 But we would like to conserve crawling bandwidth and PR flow on potentially 100's of thousands of irrelevant/duplicate filter pages.

Site Interlinking - footer and menu - whether to nofollow/remove
Hello, We've got a bunch of interlinking going on between the following sites: nlpca(dot)com thewealthymind(dot)com shop.nlpca(dot)com dynamicspinrelease(dot)com These are all owned and operated by the same people. Some linking is in the footer and some is in the menu or header. Could you take a look and tell me which interlinks you'd recommend nofollowing and which you'd recommend deleting entirely? We can always place a home page single link to replace those sitewides we delete or nofollow. I'm thinking we should delete everything in the footers and nofollow those in the menu or headers, placing a single dofollow link on the home page when deleting/nofollowing a sitewide link.

What type of links should be followed and nofollowed internally?
We have submitted our sitemap.xml to search engines so now that they have that should we use a nofollow attribute on the sitemap.html? Do we even need a sitemap.html? For other links on the site such as: Contact us About Us Locations and other phrases that we are not trying to rank for should we set these to nofollow?

Blog links - follow or nofollow?
I need my memory refreshed here! Say, I've got a blog and some of the posts have links to recommended external sites and content. Should these be nofollowed? They're not paid links or anything like that, simply things relevant to the post.

Rel=nofollow and SSL Certs
Will I lose or gain seo benefit from using rel=nofollow on my SSL certificate? every page on the site refers (links) to the cert and the server call to display the cert adds over 500ms to my page load speeds. <updated question=""> Is there a way to display the cert to cut down on load speeds? Also, would Google discount or penalize the site if the cert were nofollowed?</updated> Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Should I nofollow the main navigation on certain pages?
We have several large Ecommerce sites with hundreds of links on each page. I have been trying to think of ways to focus our internal linking to increase certain pages relevancy. My thought was to put nofollow in the main navigation (since there are hundreds of links there controlled by dropdowns) and only follow the links on each page for the products we are selling and promoting (15-20 links). I would still be using a sitemap that includes the links. Is this a terrible idea? if a link is nofollowed in the main navigation does that still count as the one mention for google if it points to the same page that a normal link points too that is in the content of the page? since all of the main navigation is the same on every page of the website would it be good to only put nofollow on the subpages/subsections and leave the home page navigation alone (that would allow the spiders to crawl all of those links on the home page but not crawl those same links on the subsections where I could then focus the linking).
