Moving image directory location on redesign.
-
I'm getting ready to do a redesign for a client and one thing that annoys me about the directory structure of the website is that he has files buried deep in the directories. For example, the images are buried like four folders deep in some cases and I would like to move all of those images into an images folder directly below the root. All of those images, however, have already been indexed by google and show up in google images.
If I start moving those images around, could it hurt his rankings?

If the images are being indexed just fine, even though they are "four folders deep", why would you change that? It would be like trying to fix something that is working perfectly, you may end up with something you didn't expect... (reindexing all images could remove them from the index for a while... it won't do any harm, but as you said, they are just fine where they are now).
Hope that helps!

Moving from no follow to follow links on our eCommerce site
Hi everyone, I recently taken on an SEO eCommerce account and found that all the footer links have a no follow attribute. I've requested that the no follow tags be removed as the pages are quite valuable (about us, finance, recycling, help centre etc). I've been asked what the risks are and all I can think of is a slightly increased number of pages for Google to Crawl. Are there any other risks you can think of? Does anyone have experience around making this type of change? For benefits, I believe that it will make our content look more trustworthy to Google and help with traffic through to those pages in the SERPs. Any other pros you can think of will be a great help.

How to move many domains form an address to another?
We need to move a site from a domain to another one, and there are also hundreds or even thousands of subdomains to move. What would be the best practise to do it in order to save at least some of the visibility in search results?

IMPACTS on Moving Online Store to New Platform
I, I have this online store, http://www.filtrationmontreal.com/ built on osCommerce. This platform is NOT SEO friendly and I expecting to move it to a new platform, probably, http://www.americommerce.com/ Can I limit the SEO impact when moving this store? The domaine will be the same, but every other url on the site will change. I only know the basics of SEO, and only copy html code when I need to. So my knowledge are limited. Using Google Analytics, I have the most popular page url visit on the current store. To limit impact, I thought I should copy the most popular page URL of the curent store and do a 301 redirect on the store platform. Do you think this my limit the impact? Would there be a other way to limit SEO impact on Google search results? I don't want to be penalize if the search and up on a 401 page. Can anybody help me? Thank you, BigBlaze

Directory URL structure last / in the url
Ok, So my site's urls works like this www.site.com/widgets/ If you go to www.site.com/widgets (without the last / ) you get a 404. My site did no used to require the last / to load the page but it has over the last year and my rankings have dropped on those pages... But Yahoo and BING still indexes all my pages without the last / and it some how still loads the page if you go to it from yahoo or bing, but it looks like this in the address bar once you arrive from bing or yahoo. http://www.site.com/404.asp?404;http://site.com:80/widgets/ How do I fix this? Should'nt all the engines see those pages the same way with the last / included? What is the best structure for SEO?
