Why does it take so long for citations to get listed?
-
I understand that several citation places take over a month to get listed, but I just don't understand why. Granted, there's nothing I can do about it, but I'm just curious what the hold up is based on.
Thanks,
Ruben

30 days isn't bad. I'm just hoping it's not much longer that. I appreciate you sharing your tests.
Best,
Ruben

From what I've seen, Moz Local is pretty fast - especially for the price. I'm aggressive and I claim listings as fast as I can. But that's just me, making the green bar go higher.
The main thing is avoiding pain points. Acxiom is a big pain point. It requires a lot of cooperation you aren't likely to get from a client. I make them busy, they don't have much time for me.
From my tests, just add 30 days to your campaign. In many instances, especially if you claim the big three manually, that's not a whole lot of time.
-
Adding listings yourself isn't the slowest (if you don't count the time you spent doing them), since there are time delays with each entity that deals with the data.
If you have a handful of citations you want to get up faster than with a service, doing them manually is an option.

Hi Ruben,
This is from 2012, but is still highly applicable:

Thought you might like to take a peek at that.

Yeah, Yext is incredibly expensive. I actually wondered why Moz Local was so much cheaper. I guess this is why.
What about adding the listings yourself? Right now, I'm doing that for anyone Moz Local doesn't do. I'm guess that will end up being the slowest of the three, but I'm not sure.

Ruben

From what I've heard when I talk to these citation places, there are two different kinds.
-
A company that collection citations and then hands them off to large databases that are controlled by others, and then those people will distribute the citations through there affiliates. This is the much longer, much cheaper, kind of citation company. Moz Local does this.
-
A company that has it's own direct relationships with the citation sites, and doesn't use third-party databases or companies as a middle-man. This is more expensive (10x or so), but faster. Yext falls into this category.
So, you are correct. There is nothing you can do to speed it up, the citations are most likely in the hands of those large databases who are distributing to affiliates.

Best Tips to Get In the Local Pack
Apart from making sure your business information is 100% accurate, etc., what are your best tips to get a company ranking in the local pack? Do they need to rank well organically to be considered for the local pack or is it solely based on the consistency of their GMB page?

[Local Search] Do you get penalized by using a Google Voice number for each seperate business location?
My client is expanding and opening up separate locations and I will be getting all their online business listings up and running. The client wants to use a single 1-888 number for all locations, however, it was my assumption that they would need a local number for each location to improve their ranking. Could I suggest using free Google voice numbers that get forwarded to their 1-888 number or will Google discredit us for this?

Citations & Snack Pack
One of our clients have two business names. Alpha Paving Industries and Alpha Roofing Industries. -- both have the same address. Couple questions- 1.They changed their address a few months ago. On your listing for both companies ...you show a "Suite A". Google and Facebook do not that the "suite A"....why does it show up still? 2. One each- there are inconsistencies. On Alpha Paving, Alpha Roofing shows up...same thing with Alpha Roofing, Alpha Paving shows up as inconsistent. This affects the score I imagine? How can it be resolved so the inconsistencies are gone. 3. To get on the "snack pack" your citations have to be perfect. Will this keep both Alpha Paving and Alpha Roofing from getting in the "snack pack"? Thanks you! Craig

How do I get Google Knowledge Graph to display my schema snippet added on our official website?
Right now, Google is connecting our company google query to a Knowledge Graph that contains Wikipedia information, and a map to the location of our place but with the name of the company spelled wrong. It also says 'Claim this business'. I would like to override this. We have a G+ page for our company , and as well i have added a Schema to display the information correctly in the Knowledge graph. But these changes have not seemed to help to change the knowledge graph. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Is there a way to get your local SERP by zipcode?
I have multiple stores across various zipcodes and i'm having difficulty trying to provide an average Positioning on SERP by region. I do know that your SERP varies by region because different areas use different vernaculars. Does anyone know of a way that I can provide a SERP for keywords/terms by county or zip code?
