Social Bookmarking is it spammy?
-
is social book marking seen as spammy ? And if it helps SEO how can you weed out the good sites from the bad?
-
As Silkstream says, the practice itself isn't spammy but it has been thoroughly abused by "SEOs" in the past to the extent that it should be done with care and for non-SEO purposes only. Firstly, it's not really likely to help your SEO anymore. Most of the links you will gain will be nofollowed, and while there is some reason to believe that a LOT of high quality nofollow activity (like you might get from a very successful viral campaign) is a good signal, it's not technically an important metric for SEO and shouldn't be treated as such. You should be bookmarking where it would make sense to share / save content for other marketing purposes, with SEO taking a very far back seat as a reason why.

Thank you for your answer, I am starting to embrace Social Bookmarking, I have had a look at Biz Sugar it looks pretty good to me.

The practice in itself isn't spammy. Its a great way to get further exposure if you are using the right sites.
Check out "Biz Sugar" - theres a pumpin' community over there.
How do you know if a site is spam or not? If your bookmarks are sending you referrals that spend a good amount of time on site then you're on to a winner!

Social Signals Inquiry Regarding Competitor
There is a competitor in my sites industry, and per various tools like opensitexplorer, quicksprout, and searchmetrics, they have an evenly amount of massive (100k+ per page) facebook social signals (likes, shares, comments) to around 25-50 of their top pages on their site. They have no social media presence in terms of a fan page, and they rank on the first page for almost every single keyword that is niche related. How could it be possible to naturally have the same number of facebook social signals to all of your top pages? What have they done to even accomplish this, and is it only a matter of time before Google recognizes the black hat tactics they've put in place to manipulate the search engines?

Problems with Google Analytics social tracking
Hi folks, Any GA experts out there available to help with a social tracking problem we've got? In short a client is using a ShareThis plugin, but the data we're seeing in GA doesn't correlate at all with the share counts showing on the plugin. Huge discrepancies in fact. Could do with someone taking a look at the page and seeing what part of the tracking code we need to update/fix. We'll make it worth your while. Please PM me if you can help. Thanks! Matt.

Social Media Campaigns
Hey SEOmoz Community, I have a couple questions about social media campaigns. Which KPIs do you use for social media campaigns? How do you determine realistic campaign goals? I am looking at projecting the number of followers/fans and the amount of traffic a site can expect to see as a result of this growth. Any suggestions. Thanks! Geoff
