Best Facebook content to share?
-
What is the best kinds of things to share on Facebook pages? I read conflicting results on the matter.
In my experience memes and funny pictures get the best results. Next is creative art or user generated things.
Videos and links to my site, even when they are funny or high quality pieces, get almost no interaction. Videos will basically get ignored and sent out to very few people.

That's interesting as all of my pages see the opposite. Straight text gets minimal results for me.

Hi Noah,
I have an example of something I've noticed on our Facebook page. If I write out a quote in plain text, it gets seen by way more people than if I post it as a meme/jpg. I think I read something that confirmed this for me on a general level, but it definitely effected our results.
Best,
Ruben

I'd like to add that what gets shared by one audience doesn't necessarily get shared by a different audience. Some companies get a lot of product support questions via Facebook, and their Twitter feed is where they put out their fun photos of the office. For Moz, it's the opposite. We generally get more responses from people on Facebook by sharing what the office looked like during the World Cup, and much of our Twitter presence is responding to questions.

There isn't a silver bullet. Social Media marketing is constantly changing, and what got shared last week may not work this week. What you will want to do is study your competitors to see what your niche is doing, and create a content plan based off of that. Is it images? Is it posts about good hygiene?
From there you will want to figure out when people are engaging on your pages, and in your industry. Rand created an awesome post about analyzing when people are engaging with you a few weeks back:

Facebook Instant Articles - will it hurt SEO?
I am intrigued by Facebook IA and am thinking that putting some of my company articles on it would be beneficial for marketing. Question is, will it hurt SEO if I take an article that is on my website and also submit it to Facebook IA? Will it register as duplicate content in Google? Could it have other benefits/risks?

Running a contest to increase Facebook Likes
I recently read about a well known company giving away a large prize and offering anyone a chance to win by Liking their Facebook Page. Has there been any statements provided by Google on how they view the attempt to increase Facebook Likes through contests. Or if they have not revealed anything, what do you think Google's approach would be based on their history?

Qualty of Likes, Shares etc
People often say that Social Media shares are all about the quality of them but not the volume when it comes to a factor in SEO. However, as far as I know, Google does not have any in depth access to the likes Facebook and Twitter's API, so how can they tell the quality of likes. Most Facebook accounts are hidden or restricted so Google can't tell from that either.

Twitter and Facebook Back-link Aquisition procedure?
This is another novice question that I hope is easy to answer for someone out there. How do you get a backlink from twitter or facebook? Either Open Site Explorer is not recognizing my accounts or twitter and facebook are not reporting it for some reason. I have looked at other competitors and they have twitter and facebook that show up as linking to them. Do you have to do something special to get a link? Utah Tiger

Does anyone know a good way to find the number of Facebook Likes or Google +1's across an entire domain? It looks like SEOMoz only shows these metrics for individual pages.

I can't see the new Facebook Insights.
Is anyone else having trouble seeing the new Facebook Insights page? If I click on Insights I get a message at the top that says, "Take me to the new Page Insights" but if I click on it it does nothing. Apparently people are "talking about me" and I can't see the new stats!

Widgets like Facebook Like and AddThis - Any Negative SEO?
I could go widget crazy with my website, there are so many cool buttons and linking this and likes and etc. There's one that is used a lot, called "Addthis" that adds a series of small icons to share a page via facebook, twitter, etc. The javascript looks innocent enough, but there's a link, and who knows what google makes of it. Then there are the dozen or so Facebook widgets - are they safe to use without negative SEO consequences? Does anyone know of any other pitfalls with using the numerous addons offered free to enhance your site? Thanks for any wisdom out there! Jean
