Strange Google SERP Layout: Anyone?
-
I haven't been able to repeat this, but I just saw a strange Google SERP layout. The screenshot is attached below. Has anyone else seen something like this?
I kind of rubbed my eyes and wondered 'if it was kicking in'.
-
My response was pretty delayed on this one. No, I don't sync my phone with anything. Granted, I have my email accounts connected - but I'm too paranoid to sync it my machines. Anything with that many certificates, out of the box, isn't getting that kind of access.
It's been months and it hasn't happened again. The Googles just probably crossed my internet tubes for a second.
-
That is strange, looks like a mobile result for sure. Best guess is you fooled google with a mobile emulator and they served a mobile results page too you.
the screenshot is also showing your location history, do you sync your chrome browser across your phone/table/desktop? I do this and sometimes run into a situation where my phone will pull a recent search I did on my desktop computer. Maybe your desktop chrome browser was pulling a recent search you did on your phone and displaying the mobile results..... regardless this looks to just be a random fluke.

I can't tether unless I pay my current cell provider more money.
I'm hoping this was a glitch. I don't want The Googles to Mobile All The Things.
I haven't been able to repeat it with user agent spoofing via dev console.
-
Did you leave tethering on by accident perhaps? I haven't seen that before when I've tethered, but you never know.
I do think we've at least determined that Google, for whatever reason, thinks you're mobile and that's why your SERP looks that way.
-
It was really strange. This was definitely on a desktop with Chrome browser. I thought the Googles had lost their collective mind for a moment.
I checked my user agent emulation, and it was set to spoof Nexus. Apparently I left it on for doing some light/quick/possibly-not-the-best device testing. Though I had never saw results like that on a desktop, even with the accidental spoof.
One thing is for sure, a collective 10-12 hours of sleep up to this point is probably not helping.
Edit: I just realized I'm charging my phone over USB, but I don't sync it.
-
I'm seeing the location is mentioned as from your phone (down at the very bottom).
-
Hello,
Not certain, but it looks like a mobile SERP. Looks identical to that on my phone. Maybe your browser just had a hiccup?

Meta Descriptions - Google ignores what we have
Hi I still write meta descriptions to help with CTR. I am currently looking at a page where the CTR needs improving. I check the meta on Google SERPs & it isn't pulling through the meta description we have - but other info on the page. This isn't ideal - why does this happen? Will Google just make the decision and are descriptions not worth writing?

Is Moz Domain Authority still relvant when it comes to Google ranking?
My understanding of Moz DA is that it is predominantly based on external links. Since Penguin I am noticing more and more websites ranking high in Google with a "low" number of links and certainly a low DA but quality and relevancy of content and also of offering. I understand that there was always more to ranking than DA but is it anymore even relevant to how a site will rank in Google?

I can't understand why I am not rank one on SERPS
Hi Guys, I really cannot understand why I am no longer rank 1 on SERPs? My link data shows great weight in comparison to competitors, my on page SEO is good, nice and diverse on the alt text. I know there are a lot of factors that effect SERPs but I believe I have done well but am still not ranking? Have I missed something?

De-indexed homepage in Google - very confusing.
A website I provide content for has just suffered a de-indexed homepage in Google (not in any of the other search engines) - all the other pages remained indexed as usual. Client asked me what might be the problem and I just couldn't figure it out - no linkbuilding has ever been carried out so clean backlink profile, etc. I just resubmitted it and it's back in its usual place, and has maintained the rankings (and PR) it had before it disappeared a few days ago. I checked WMT and no warnings or issues there. Any idea why this might've happened?

Google Panda - large domain benefits
Hi, A bit of a general question, but has anyone noticed a improvement in rankings for large domains - ie well known, large sites such as Tesco, Amazon? From what I've seen, the latest Panda update seems to favour the larger sites, as opposed to smaller, niche sites. Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this too? Thanks

Strange Refferral URL coming in from Google
Hi, I've been monitoring my referral URL's coming in and today noticed they had changed. Previously when I clicked one it would be the google search result page - however now they all seem to be like this: http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=7&sqi=2&ved=0CHEQFjAG&url=http://www.mysite.com&rct=j&q=my%20keyword&ei=Bvc3TrbgB5G0hAfvqoSvAg&usg=AFQjCNFONDCPJDl3d2PYceYvale_cL7s4Q All these URL's immediately redirect to my website pages. Do you know what they are - they seem to be tracking URL's of some sort I am thinking?? Are they trying to analyse my site with respect to certain keywords?? Thanks
