Same anchor text
-
I am using the same anchor text on my homepage to go to two different pages. Is this bad?
Thanks

I agree with the above and ensureing unique anchor text and Egol where multiple pages where you can dominate several positions in search is great. We have a main keyword that we target on several pages and use anchor text that includes that word but also targets longer tail variations. e.g. word, phrase with word, elaberate on word.
-
You have a lot of links on all of your homepage. I wouldn't use the same keyword or variations, but focus on the main keywords, and focus on your link architecture.
-
I Agree with Richard you are cannibalizing your keyword. Use a variation of the keyword or phrase in the second link.
-
I try to use keyword variations in this instance. Allows for broader keyword usage, as well as top rankings.
-
I also agree.... but take a slightly different view....
You might also be rewarded with #1 and #2.
On a limited extent keyword cannibalization is an opportunity.
So, I don't have a problem with having two, sometimes three pages on one site that target the same keyword. If that keyword is a money-maker I want to hog two positions in the SERPs. There are a few keywords where I rank #1, #2, #3, #4 and each of those pages has a different appeal.
I like it and I bet my competitors don't.
-
I would say it depends on the number of links you got on that page pointing to your 2 different pages before saying that it's "bad"... But indeed, normally you would want to use an anchor text to point on a page that is in fact related to this specific subject and suppose to have one single page build with the same main keyword.. I would personally vary the anchor text on the same page..
-
I agree with Richard... using the same anchor text in two internal links is like saying to the bots that the two linked pages are about the same topic and that the keyword expressing that topic is the same in both pages... so you will have two pages of your site fighting each other.
-
Yes, you are cannibalizing your keyword. Change the keyword to a supporting keyword. It also makes me wonder why you would need to do this? Do you have two pages with the same keyword as the main keyword?

Hero Banners & Live Text Q?
Hey Guys N' Girls. What are the benefits of having live selectable text on your home page slider banners? I understand that as live text Google can read the text, so there are keyword and relevancy benefits. But the question is how much impact on ranking this will have? The reason I ask is our website solution can add live text but the fonts are limited to 9 basic fonts. We would like to use more jazzy fonts in the banner, but our only option then is to use a jpeg or png. Thanks for your responses. Owen

Replacing text with images
Hello, My client is a "cheap calls" site which is offering calls to around 300 countries in the world. The pages for each country are almost the same, as they are mostly terms and conditions of making a call and explanation of the process how to do it. The copy is quite long (more than 850 words) and the country name is repeated about 26 times in the text. The country name and the phone number is the main difference between the pages, which makes them almost the same. I have recommended to add testimonials to each country and towns within the country, but I am afraid it will not dilute the similarity between the pages enough for Google to stop seeing them as duplicated. Also the client do not exactly rush to publish the testimonials for every country. The rankings are not too bad and all seems fine, but in the long term I know we need to do something. I am not sure if the client would agree to shorten up the copy, as they believe in old style seo with keyword stuffing and bolded keywords but I would like to overcome that problem with exchanging the most of the copy with an image. I would write a new copy for each page making it unique (around 2-3 paragraphs) and the rest would be an image stating exactly the same thing as the copy now to provide the same amount of info to the user. Theoretically it should help to resolve this problem, but would like to check if anyone has done something like that and if it worked/may work. Are they any other implications?

Internal Links: Navigation Bar vs. Body Text
Hello. I have a page on our site that is especially popular and has many inbound links. This page has the same site navigation buttons (at the top) as every other page on the site. Do these site navigation buttons pass along link juice to other pages in the same way that an internal link would elsewhere on the page? Thank you!

Anchor text in Ecommerce site without relevant pages
I'm posting articles to my e-commerce site and just wondering about the anchor text links within the posts. I don't have relevant static pages but the items do come up in a search query. For example i don't have a specific page for red wine but if a user searched for red wine it would give a search query URL. Should I use that search URL query as my anchor text?

On site optimization - anchor text in body text
Hi I am learning SEO from scratch and am only a couple of weeks in. My wife has just started a website selling children clothes. In the left bar there are links to the different producers. Clicking it takes you to the products from that producer. In the body text om the main page ( epleskrinet.no) the same producers are mentioned. By time i need to opitmize for all of these. Is there any point in making them anchor text - taking them to the same URL as is given in the side bar ? Or will it get discounted ? Dan Laerum
