What does Mozcape actually do and what types of businesses use it?
-
I'm making an effort to use more of the Moz tools, but some I really don't understand...Mozcape would be chief on that list. What does it do exactly and for what purpose? I read the API Wiki, but it sounds to me a lot like Open Site Explorer...but complicated...so I assume I must be missing something or why build the thing?
Also, do local businesses even use this or is this more for national e-commerce sites?
Thanks,
Ruben

Alright, so I don't particularly think I need to be using this for my purposes, but thank you all for clarifying this issue for me. I greatly appreciate it! Special thanks to Chris and Leslie who continually help me out. I especially appreciate your consistent help!
Best,
Ruben

No, I haven't. I will!
Thanks!

Ruban,
Mozscape is the pool of data Moz compiles on a monthly basis via the following method:
Starting with the top 10 billion URLs with the highest MozRank obtained from the previous month's index, they crawl the web from the top down until they've crawled 90,000,000,000 pages.
In addition to the data gathered during the crawl (links and urls), Mozscape also includes "intelligent metrics" such as MozRank,MozTrust, Domain Authority, and Page Authority that Moz calculates based on the results of its crawl.
The Mozscape API is the service that allows Moz customers access to that raw pool of data and metrics in order to subsequently customize applications that make use of it (for themselves or for their own clients).
Have you read these yet?

Mozscape is the crawler that crawls and gives you the Moz rank, Page authority, Domain authority etc. It is used in both Site Explorer and in the Moz Toolbar browser ad on. Like Lesley said they provide a API that allows you to create your own applications based on this crawl data.

From my understanding Mozscape is the API for Open Site Explorer. You can build widgets with the Mozscape API if you wanted to offer the information in the Mozscape index to your clients. One example I can think of off my head is nibbler.silktide.com I am pretty sure they use link data from Mozscape.

What user agent is used by SEOMOZ crawler?
We have a pretty tight robots.txt file in place to only allow the major search engines. I do not want to block SEOMOZ.ORG from being able to crawl the site so I want to make sure the user agent is open.

Is there a beginners guide to using the tools and what do the results mean.
Great set of tools! But what would make them better is some type of guide to what the tools do (remember I am a new user) and how to maximize the results. Oh and while your at it what do the results mean.

Best way to use OSE Advanced Reports
I can see that Open Site Explorer's Advanced Reports feature is very powerful in terms of sifting through large amounts of link data, but does anyone have any useful tips on how to get the most out it? I want to use my 5 reports a month, but I want to make to maker sure I'm making the most of that allowance.

Convince me to stay! How should I best use SEOMoz tools.
Hey folks. I'm here on a free trial and I'm really loving the Q&A forum. I've learned a lot in the last couple of days. I've been playing around with the SEOMoz tools and campaigns and I'm trying to decide if it will be worth it for me to pay the monthly fee to continue with these once my trial is up. I direct two main websites. One is an informational site and the other is a real estate site. I've started a campaign for each and so far we're still waiting for a crawl. (I'm assuming that will happen on Sunday). I've played around with some of the tools. They keyword difficulty tool is cool but I can't see me using it a whole lot. The rest is just a little overwhelming...I'm not sure where to start. So what should I be checking out next? Have at 'er and convince me to stay!
