Best Software To Alert On Incoming Links?
-
Hi Guys,
I've got most of the software I need for general link analysis, Moz/Majestic etc. But what I am lacking is software that would give me an update when one of my websites receives an incoming link? That is if there is such software available.
All suggestions and help appreciated.

Hi Tom,
Thanks a lot for your response, this has really helped!
I've just set up about 10 recipes on IFTTT after discovering what it does, amazing tool, can't believe I didn't know about it before!
I haven't successfully set up the Moz side of it as it stands because Moz keeps telling me there is a redirect loop, but I look forward to trialling that out.
Thanks again for the tips.

Hi Sam
Not a perfect solution, but a good free work-a-round is to use http://page2rss.com and IFTTT.
If you enter the Moz Just Discovered URL into Page2RSS, it will create an RSS feed of the page. When the page updates with new links, the RSS feed that you created will update to.
Then, with the IFTTT RSS feed trigger, you can create an alert to update you whenever the feed updates - IE when a new link is discovered. You can have it fire to your email, for example.
It can be a bit tempremental, but I've had it working before. Good for competitor spying and for negative SEO monitoring.

Using sitewide links to improve link profile?
Hi Guys... When I look at my competitor's link profile, they often have thousands of backlinks. For example, one of our main competitor, he got 3,400 backlinks in total but only 80 referring domains. When I look at my link profile, I have around 50-60 referring domains, but hardly 80 backlinks. My question is, is it okay to get a few sitewide links (no-follow of course!) to get to the thousands backlinks? Or I will be able to achieve top rankings with my current link profile? Thanks!!

To Fix An Incoming Link Or Not?
I recently received a unnatural link notice from Google. The thing is, I haven't done any link building in the last two years. So, I looked at my latest links report within Google Webmaster Tools and see where one of our dealer's website has been updated recently and now includes a site-wide link to us. Site note: My brand name as the anchor text ... no keywords nearby. I think this is what may be causing the problem because nothing else within the report really jumps out at me. Also, it lines up with the timeline. It looks like they changed their site to include the link at the beginning of April. Google was noticing the links throughout April and to the present. I got the notice May 19th. Now, I have a good relationship with this dealer and can have him change anything I want at the drop of a hat. The question is, by having him change it am I admitting to Google wrongdoing and thus hurting myself by inviting further scrutiny. Should I leave it as is since it truly is a legitimate link? Google having false positives like this really muddies the water. Thanks guys!

Buy links
I know that many of you are against the whole thing with buying links. Your feelings put aside. Will it be better for my site to buy links or even do link exchange? Haven´t the crawlers been thought by now how to find these untrue links? I have read somewhere that the stop after 100 links, aren´t they smarter than that?

Is a no-follow link/sponsored link a good editorial link?
Ok maybe this is a dumb question. I really need some better, more quality backlinks pointing to my site. There is a site that has domain authority of 72, page rank 5 that is offering me a sponsored blog post. Do sponsored posts count as a good editorial link? Also what if they are no-follow (and how would I find out ahead of time), does that still give me link juice?

Link exchanges
I have quite a few legal clients and 90% of my clients top competitors are doing 1:1 link exchanges and they have been doing it for years. Other industries Dont seem as prevalent. I am just boggled every time someone says link exchanges don't work, will get penalized, or value is not passed. Its been working for my competitors....Legal SEO's seem to focus heavily on link exchanges. I have yet to do link exchanges, but am about to get started with a resourceful directory of local businesses on my clients site. Some will be linking back, but not all. Fear of penalization is lurking in my mind. Does anyone have any real data on this? Does anyone have an example of doing this properly and an example of how not to do it? I appreciate any feedback you can give. Thank you,

Where are all the sites that are linking to me?
I need to compile a list of all the siters linking to my site, but my open site explorer analysis shows very few links. I know for certain that there are many many more sites linking to it (it's an academic site and there are links to it from a lot of academic directories). What am I doing wrong?
