What Parameters and Rules i set to track all types of click?
-
Hello Expert,
If i want to track all types of clicks either link, button, drop down etc for my website then what parameters i add in "Event Tracking parameters" and what will be firing rules.
I already have universal analytic and google tag manager. Track Type as even i selected in google tag manager now please tell me 1) what i add in category, Action, label? 2) what should be the rule.
I will be really thankful to you if you give cut to cut answer instead of sharing post.

If you want to track a button click using Google Tag Manager you still have to use analytics api as described in the link I posted earlier.
No I am not aware of any other way of tracking button clicks than using javascript. If the button clicks trigger an url change you can of course track it indirectly, tracking the url change.
GTM also needs you to add analytics api call for tracking transactions: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/gaTrackingEcommerce
Same goes for site speed and few others.
Adding that javascript does of course introduce a potential delay a slow down user experience. Based on my experience the delay is negligible.
If you need to chain a lot of tracking calls I suggest deferring them.
I strongly suggest you to design and plan (carefully) what you really need to track first.

I have E-commerce site, and 2nd thing when GTM is going very advance still you want me to use javascript? Is it not possible to work or track without javascript?
Also i have E-commerce site with more than 10k products, so if i directly configure event tracking in tag manager for all types of events so will it affect to 1) site speed 2) or it will work slow of the user? or push data layer is best option to track events instead of directly configure all events in tag manager?

You may end-up overwhelmed with data if you really track every single click anywhere. You should analyze what is really helpful to track what is not.
Analytics is giving you a ton of information, have you already spent time analyzing all of it? Understanding it? And taking all the actions to improve your metrics?
You didn't mention what kind of site is that. Blog? E-commerce? Your target is selling? Promoting a brand? Collecting emails through form submission? If you analyze what is your target and what are the path and goals you expect from your visitors you will find out what it really matters to track.
Said that, if you really what to track everything, you can just use jquery or any javascript library to override click events, and use analytics javascript api to track events:

ECommerce Tracking in Analytics - Should I use a plugin or do it manually?
Hi, I have a WordPress site (woocommerce integrated). I would like to know should I use a plugin to enable e-commerce tracking in Google Analytics or I should do it manually with GTM. Which is a better way? Will using a plugin to enable e-commerce tracking slow down my site? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Tracking Pop Up Form Submission Events with GTM
Hello, I'm currently tracking contact form submissions any time a user clicks 'Submit' on a pop-up form. Once the form is submitted, the URL of the page remains the same (there is no /thank-you page or such like), hence needing to fire the Event based on a click. Problem is, even if the form is not actually submitted and a user just clicks the Submit button without filling in the fields, the Event will still fire. I know there is a way to ensure the Event ONLY fires when the form is actually submitted for real, but I don't know how to implement that in GTM. Any help most appreciated 🙂 Cheers, Gill.

Page Tracking using Custom URLs - is this viable?
Hi Moz community! I’ll try to make this question as easy to understand as possible, but please excuse me if it isn’t clear. Just joined a new team a few months ago and found out that on some of our most popular pages we use “custom URLs” to track page metrics within Google Analytics. NOTE: I say “custom URLs” because that is the best way for me to describe them. As an example: This page exists to our users: http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/Ram_HD/2012/photos-interior/ But this is the URL we have coded on the page: cars-trucks/used-cars/reviews/2012-Ram-HD/photos-interior/ (within the custom variance script labeled as “var l_tracker=” ) It is this custom URL that we use within GA to look up metrics about this page. This is just one example of many across our site setup to do the same thing Here is a second example: Available page to user: http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/Cadillac_ATS/2015/ Custom “var l_tracker=” /cars-trucks/2015-Cadillac-ATS/overview/ NOTE: There is a small amount of fear that the above method was implemented years ago as a work-around to a poorly structured URL architecture. Not validated, but that is a question that arose. Main Questions: Is the above implementation a normal and often used method to track pages in GA? (coming from an Omniture company before – this would not be how we handled page level tracking) Team members at my current company are divided on this method. Some believe this is not a proper implementation and are concerned that trying to hide these from Google will raise red flags (i.e. fake URLs in general = bad) I cannot find any reference to this method anywhere on the InterWebs - If method is not normal: Any recommendations on a solution to address this? Potential Problems? GA is currently cataloguing these tracking URLs in the Crawl Error report. Any concerns about this? The team wants to hide the URLs in the Robots.txt file, but some team members are concerned this may raise a red flag with Google and hurt us more than help us. Thank you in advance for any insight and/or advice. Chris

Virtual Pageviews vs. Destination URL for Goal tracking
I am working on setting up goal tracking. Currently when we receive a new signup, the person gets sent to their dashboard homepage and this is not a valuable a goal tracking destination. My suggestion was to build a "Welcome" interstitial page to send a user to when they create an account. Our tech team suggested using a Virtual pageview instead as it is their thinking that a "Welcome" page adds little value. Is there any downside to using Virtual Pageviews with regards to goal tracking?

Cookie tracking in Google Analytics
Hi How do I remove the "/?__utma=...." at the end of my URLs?We have a site http://www.jetonline.co.za/, if you click on one of the menu navigation links i.e. "fashion". A long "/?__utma=...." url appears. I understand this is for tracking as we have separate domains for each page but is there a way to remove this dynamic url and keep it hidden from users? Thanks in advance
