Google Analytics Offline Conversions
-
Hi All,
I've been searching the net for this for a while now and haven't found any suitable solutions.
I'm looking at a way of importing conversions into Analytics. For a business I work with there is currently a split between
-
Contact Form Submissions (we can track)
-
Mobile Website Calls (we can track)
-
Offline Calls (visit the website via AdWords and pickup the phone)
We currently record all call data so we can see just how many calls we are getting from the campaign, and we take notes on keywords and time of call. So manually we can figure out the conversion rate.
I was wondering if there was a way to mark certain visits as conversions manually? I'm pretty sure there isn't, but figured this would be the best place to ask!
Thanks in advance!

IfByPhone actually owns Mongoose Metrics now. I manage a fairly large amount of AdWords campaigns. I truly believe that the free conversion tool that AdWords provides outranks any other service for the simple fact that there is no cost and you get the same amount of information. I wish there was a better way to tie revenue to keywords.

Hi Monica,
Agreed there are no perfect tracking options out there. With CallRail, it automatically pushes an event to Google Analytics and can automatically push conversions based on simple logic. However, it does lack true revenue tracking. That being said, the list of events that CallRail pushes is very easy to map back to the revenue. I have personally implemented CallRail, IfByPhone, and Mongoose Metrics for 20+ clients and agree that none are perfect though.
Mongoose Metrics does have a cool way for an agent to log the revenue at the end of the call and likelihood that the lead will close or if they already have. However, it is still not automatic and depends on the agent remembering/entering accurate information.
A newcomer to the game that I have heard great things about is LogMyCalls. It does automatically analyze a conversation and provide very valuable summaries. It is great for training from what I have heard. However, since I have not personally used it, I did not want to recommend it just yet.

David, I still believe that is only half of the equation. Actually tracking the conversions back to the campaigns to include the revenue is not possible just by using the dynamic numbers. Google Conversion Tracking uses the dynamic numbers as well. There are a host of call tracking softwares out there, my favorite being IfByPhone. They all lack the ability to accurately track the revenue back to the call. Most are only approximations.

In order to close the gap and move closer to the Holy Grail of complete tracking, you are going to need a dynamic number insertion call tracking solution. The way this works is a small piece of code (javascript) similar to a Google Analytics code snippet is installed on your site. This allows the call tracking software to determine the source of the visit (i.e. Facebook, Google Organic, AdWords, etc.) and dynamically swap the number the viewer sees. For example, if your usual number is 800-456-7890, the software "knows" that the end-user originated from AdWords, cookies the user as an AdWords visitor, and serves a new number (i.e. 800-123-4567) that forwards to the 800-456-7890 number. When the number forwards, it will create a virtual website visit that is tracked in Google Analytics. Even if the visitor comes back later on, it will use the cookie placed to serve them the same dynamic number.
My company uses a solution named CallRail. It is as easy to set up as Google Analytics and then the account setup takes between 15-60 minutes depending on how in-depth you want to go with numbers and settings. VERY easy to use. I implemented this for many clients when I was a consultant and have been a happy customer for some time.

I really wish there was a way to record phone revenue from AdWords. I am using their goal conversions to track phone calls as well. I have 127 campaigns and over 5000 products so manually calculating the revenue is impossible. I spoke with a company a few months ago called Invoca, they monitor calls and manually record conversions for you. So, if someone calls from AdWords, they can screen the call and record the revenue for you. That is the only thing I have come close to as far as being able to tie conversions to AdWords.

Unless you have a way of marrying the conversion to a specific visit, then now. If you do have specific information (like dynamically generated phone numbers) you can use the Data import feature.

How to track B2B conversions when the searcher isn't the one who transacts?
Hi, Wondering if anyone can recommend how to track B2B conversions when the searcher isn't the one who transacts? I am looking at my Adwords campaigns and I don't think the conversion is 100% right. In our industry, the eventual end user (and the person who does the search) does not have the authority to purchase the product. It is usually the purchasing department who eventually get in contact and purchase the product. Sometimes it is another company on behalf of the original company who purchase the part as we might not be on the vendor list. So, in this case, the order goes from the original searcher to their purchasing department to another company who then purchase from us. Just wondering how to track this on AdWords? Thanks

Gap in Google PPC Ads & Organic search results - New test by Google?
Hi All, Just noticed an unusual gap in PPC ads and organic search results in google NZ. while searched the same term in Google AU, it wasn't the same. Did anyone here see something similar? Is this a new test by Google to get more clicks on PPC ads and pushing down organic results? Looking forward to hear from the community. Cheers, Rattan wcB6DL1.jpg

A heads-up about problems with the new Google Adwords Keyword Planner tool
I noticed that when I was using this tool, the data in the tables would change, often by a lot (up to 50%) when I sorted the columns. (Did nothing else, just sorted.) Since I was starting a new campaign and really needed data, I contacted Google about this and was told: "I understand that the estimates are changing in the Keyword Planner tool when you sort the data. I reproduced this on my end as well and was able to confirm that this is a known technical issue on our end." "Unfortunately the information in the Keyword Planner Tool is currently not the best source of data for your analysis." They then went on to suggest I just test things blindly. So, what do you do to get information about keyword traffic and ppc estimates?

What is the definition of 'Paid links' for Google ?
Many high authority sites are doing paid text linking and linking sites through 'Sponosred linking' sections, But, Google does not seem to be bothered. Just because they are already ruling the industry. Sponsored links are obviously not natural, they are absolutely paid, still Google is giving them priority that is why only people are paying huge for them. Please go through the website http://goo.gl/tgfH and see "Sponored link" section So, What actually Google considers as paid link? nNolr nNolr

Adwords Product Listing Ads & Google Analytics mis-reporting
I hope you're sitting comfortably, this could be a long one and loaded with questions! Cut to the chase: Why is traffic from google product ads showing as 'organic' traffic in GA? Here's the scenario: Google Shopping I have thousands of products in a feed to google shopping (froogle, google base, google merchant, whatever you like to call it, I'll settle for google shopping for the purpose of this question). The URLs of this feed is tagged with GA tracking data (notably utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=Product-Search), I have also tagged this with internal tracking which comes through in the back-end to assign orders to that specific source. In this case 'GOOGLEBASE'. Adwords Product Listing Ads As you know, a new (ish) feature of adwords pulls in your products from google shopping so that you get a richer ad (image, title, price) and displays this in the 'advert section' of the SERP. Once setting up a few of these, I noticed I was getting a fair amount of traffic for these new ads, taking one example, which resided in a relatively specific ad group (advertising Aviation Snips). Naturally, I wanted to find out which keywords were driving that traffic in order to improve the ads, or kill them if they weren't working. What was interesting is that I can't find anything about that traffic anywhere in adwords or google analytics. 254 clicks to 'aviation snips' must show up somewhere in analytics, if not the keywords, then what about the product? Analytics is showing nothing like that quantity of visits to those product landing pages where you'd expect. It's like ghost traffic. Google Analytics Since experimenting with product listing ads the organic traffic in GA has suddenly shot up, looking at the new keywords they are all queries which when I test them show up product listing ads in the SERP so it's obviously the paid listing ads driving this traffic. Why is google reporting these as organic, rather than paid? I also noticed a keyword appear as * in the PAID segment of analytics. I thought this was my missing aviation snips traffic, but digging into the landing pages for the * keyword, they are many different ones. There's a connection between the * and product listing ads, but what is it? Is the traffic being doubly reported? Back End Meanwhile we've seen an increase for orders tagged in the back-end of GOOGLEBASE which makes sense - google are pulling in my google shopping feed into the paid part of the SERPs and these are generating sales. Here are some of my initial thoughts / theories: 1. When google pulls in google shopping results into the organic part of the SERP, these get reported as ORGANIC in google analytics, even if you've tagged them otherwise. It seems they strip the tags out. This makes it very difficult to know if your google shopping feed is working well, or if you are doing well on standard organic traffic. 2. Google isn't separating out traffic as PAID with their new product listing ads, completely skewing the reports. It makes it look like you've gained great natural organic listings when if fact you are paying. 3. With relation to the missing Aviation Snips data - maybe google is showing a huge variety of products for that adgroup (even though it's specific) and therefore I can't see the traffic to the specific products that you'd expect. This I'm most confused about and wondered if I've missed a trick in setting the product listing ads up? I've attached a couple of screenshots which I hope will help clarify some of this. I can see product listing ads being great if you could get proper data to analyse and improve them. So here are my questions again if anyone can help? How do I see which keywords are driving the product listing ads? How do I see the landing pages for the product listings ads? What is the * keyword coming through in GA? How can you get GA to report product listing ads as paid rather than organic? Thank you so much. If I can gather enough data on this all and work it out I'll try to write up in a blog post to help others. 0rOMM.png GUAE0.png fWPL7.png

Google Ads not showing
Hello, I am having some trouble with my google adwords. I decided to split my existing campaign into two campaigns, one for customers in the UK and one for the rest of the world. The keywords are the same - only the message is different. i.e. Tractor Parts Free UK shipping on Tractor parts mysite.com/tractor-parts & Tractor Parts Fast shipping to Europe from the UK mysite.com/Tractor-Parts According to Google Adwords my UK campaign has had no impressions and no clicks. However if I search for one of the keywords it appears in the search results with the UK text. Anyone got any ideas?
