Page Authority Migration
-
PageA.html has a lot of links and has a Page Authority score. It is 301 redirected to PageB.html and eventually in OSE this also accumulates a Page Authority score. Is there a reason why PageA.html many months/years after continues to have a Page Authority when it is expected that its Authority signals have migrated (with any dampening effect etc) across to PageB.html.
-
Assuming PageA and PageB contain similar or duplicate content, you could use a canonical tag instead.
Google have noted canonical tags pass authority, as you're giving the search engine the direction that PageB is the best source of the content, instead of PageA.
Here's Webmaster Central post that discusses this: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com.au/2009/02/specify-your-canonical.html

While it is passing on the link equity there are most likely still links going back to the old URL. Unfortunately until backlinks for the new page start outpacing the old page or the older links become deprecated the old page will still outrank the previous one.
-
PageA.html's links still exist in the wild and haven't been updated to reflect the new page. When calculating the page authority, we still see all the links pointing to pagea and it calculates an authority for the page, although it has been permanently redirected to pageb.html.
Then the calculated authority is transfered through the 301 redirect. But, since all the external links exist, you won't see that PA vanish completely for pagea.
-
Well I have to agree with you on that one, 301 is an instruction that something is pemenantly moved so it would seem right if PageA.html's Page Authority lowered over time. I don't have a good answer why it don't.
-
I suppose because a 301 is an instruction that you've permenantly moved a resource and you are effectively asking for those ranking signals associated to be migrated across to the new location. If it is to be close to PageRank in its approach you would expect a migration of that link equity. In the case I'm looking at, one year on, the page that has been redirected almost has the same PA as the new page.

PageA.html does still have an Page Authority even if you 301-redirect it to PageB.html. PageB.html will get a boost from the redirect and it will strengthen PageB's Page Authority. Why would the Page Authority for PageA.html disapear just cause you redirect it?
However if that was the case (The Page Authority disapeared due to a redirect). That could do some damage if you redirected something temporary using 302-redirect or in other similar scenarios.

Domain Authority (DA) in Moz Pro changed only within the last 1-2 months?
Has anyone noticed that the Domain Authority (DA) as reported in Moz Pro has changed only within the last 1-2 months? We have screen shots showing plots of DA vs competitors w/ line graph 2 months ago starting in NOV 2017 which today starting JAN 2018 and comparing shows DA up to 50% different!

The change is seen both in the Links Overview and under the Spam Score sections still marked "NEW". Can Moz confirm that it's only recently within the last 2 months that in Moz Pro the NEW DA numbers have retroactively been updated even though the new Link Explorer has been publicly out since APR 30 from https://moz.com/community/q/moz-s-new-link-explorer-including-our-revamped-index-and-da-pa-scores-is-now-open-to-everyone? Look at the top green line starting ~12 months ago on both graphs, w/ old below 40 and new above 50. We've seen even greater differences for other tracked domains. Thanks! view0 -
Moz error with domain and page authority if no www in my domain
Hello, so our domain is website.com and we do not use www in our domain. Now moz shows our page authority as huge (website. Com) and domain authority very low. But our domain is our page that we rank. Is this due to the fact that we use no www and we rank our main index page? Am I correct? Thanks!

Which trumps: spam ranking or domain authority?
I am trying to manage my backlinks by removing ones with high spam links, but I am having trouble drawling the line between helpful/harmful links. One link, for instance, has a span ranking of 7 indicating a 30% chance of penalization from Google crawlers. This same link, however, also boasts a domain authority of 67 which indicates it is also potentially helpful to my own Google crawler success. My question is, which of these scores (spam rank and domain authority) trumps the other? Should I try to get the site owner to remove it? Am I even thinking about this issue correctly? If so, how would you suggest I draw the line in the future? Ben

Page Authority = 1 of linking page?
I am trying to determine if any of our PR services or inbound links are hurting our SEO. To do this I am using the Open Site Explorer tool and checking some of the URL's that link to us. While doing this I found a page that has a Page authority of 1/100 most other links have a decent authority...does this score mean this page has been penalized by Google? If not what else could a 1/100 mean?

Permanent 301 - Domain Authority
Hi, we created a new website which we also gave a new url.
Link Explorer | | DIGIHOUSE
We made a permanent 301 for the complete domain. www.digihouse.at -> www.digihouse-werbeagentur.at Google checked that and we rank minimum as good as with the old domain.
But in MOZ Tools the Domain Authority is very bad now.
So i think the 301 influences Google but not the Moz Tools?
The Domain Authority will not be inherited in Moz Tools? thxChris0 -
