On-Page Problem
-
Hello Mozzers,
A friend has a business website and the on-page stuff is done really bad. He wants to rank for: conference room furnishing, video conference, digital signage.
(Don't worry about the keywords, it's just made up for an example.)
For these three services he has a page: hiswebsite.com/av
AV stands for audio and video and is the h1.
If you click on one of the service, the url doesn't change. Like if you click on video conference, just the text changes, the url stays /av.
All his targeted pages got an F Grade, I am not surprised, the services titles are in
. Wouldn't it be a lot better to make an own page for every service with a targeted keyword, like hiswebsite.com/video-conference
All this stuff is on /av, how will a 301 resirect work to all the service pages, does this make sense?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

To add to what Massimiliano said - once you change the URL to be more descriptive and you have 3 pages, 301 the /av to the closest related new page. Then, add internal links to the 2 other new pages that target their primary term/topic. This way you have the authority from /av going to 1 of the newly created pages and then the other 2 new pages have a clear internal link structure so Google understands they are a higher authority for the new topics they are targeting.
-
I would change /av into /audio-video and add a 301
I would add sub folders to the url structure for each category with a dedicated page.
-
Does anyone know how to fix this technically? This site /av has already some power, and out of it we get 3 new pages..
Any help is highly appreciated!
-
Thank you guys for your answers, I appreciate that.
What would be the best approach to fix this technically? There is only one page now (/av) and there will be 3 new pages, each for one service. Normally I would think about a 301 but it's from one page to three. So I don't really know what would be the best solution.
Any ideas?

Thanks Ray, I didn't know about this.

Hi - Well, I did use a general term with 'any,' but generally speaking, on the desktop version, it is highly likely that content that is deliberately hidden from users, such as content that is revealed when a user clicks on a tab or 'expand to view' type of link, may be discounted when it comes to ranking that page.
Sources:
- https://www.seroundtable.com/google-hidden-content-tabs-19534.html
- https://www.seroundtable.com/google-hidden-tab-content-seo-19489.html
The above also includes links to hangouts where people like John Mueller have specifically spoken to the topic. Now, I don't think that hiding content like this is considered to be black hat. Only that the content in these areas carry less influence when ranking their pages for the terms included in that content.
Based on what the SEO community has seen and my own work with high traffic websites, I do think Google is at least tweaking this factor as a ranking signal. Therefore, any content that I know I want to have the most influence on the SERPs as possible, I bring to the immediate front, even if it means having a longer page. E.g. valuable content such as user reviews and product questions shouldn't be shown behind tabs, although it is a very popular UI design.

Hi Ray, with reference to "Any content that is hidden behind tabs is now known to be discounted for rankings." what's your source? I remember videos of Matt Cutts repeating Google knows today web is made of rich applications and as far as your app is keeping the white hat on you won't get penalized for this.

There's quite a bit going on here
'av' could stand for a lot of things, such as anti-virus. Most people know the acronym, but having the url as /av doesn't help you in terms of SEO - use friendly URLs that identify a specific topic, such as you've suggested with /video-conference
For each specialty/service, create a unique page and add content that demonstrates your value proposition to the reader.
Make sure each of these pages has the proper information hierarchy applied - H1, H2, H3, and the rest as necessary. Your <title>and <h1> tags should be human readable and highly targeted to the topics you want to rank for.</p> <p>Any content that is hidden behind tabs (i.e. you click a link and new text appears) is now known to be discounted for rankings. I highly suggest that you put all highly relevant content that you want to help you rank in front of the user without them needing to interact with your application.</p> <p>I hope this helps you get started creating those new pages!</p></title>

Google News problem
Hello to all. The latest Google algorithm changes have had a big impact on the way that Google news features stories, at least in my country. I've been featured heavily in Google News until about 6th of october, when the changes had the biggest impact, but since then, I haven't been featured at all. Prior to this, I would be featured for keywords on almost any article, not necessarily on the 1st position, but I was almost always there. Posts still show up in the dedicated News category, but not in the main search pages. I've seen a lot of websites being impacted, but some with lower ranks than mine still show up there. I haven't done any changes prior to the 6th of october, and I haven't done any link building campaings, just getting links from higher ranking news sites in my country, for articles I wrote. What I'd like to know is if there were any major changes for Google News and I'm not complying with any of them, or If i could check to see if there are any other problems. I don't have any penalties disclosed by Google, and no new errors in the Webmasters console, I'm just baffled by the fact that overnight the website was completely cut off from being featured in Google News. And one other strange thing, I'm now ranking better for searches that are kind of opposite to my website's main theme. Think about mainly writing about BMW, and less about AUDI, but ranking a lot better for the latter, and a lot less for the other. Thank you.

Duplicate Page Content
Hello, After crawling our site Moz is detecting high priority duplicate page content for our product and article listing pages, For example http://store.bmiresearch.com/bangladesh/power and http://store.bmiresearch.com/newzealand/power are being listed as duplicate pages although they have seperate URLs, page titles and H1 tags. They have the same product listed but I would have thought the differentiation in other areas would be sufficient for these to not be deemed as duplicate pages. Is it likely this issue will be impacting on our search rankings? If so are there any recommendations as to how this issue can be overcome. Thanks

Page Not Found Help!
Hi, I recently (about 2 months ago) moved a blog from a separate domain name over to my eCommerce site to help with marketing. http://www.moondoggieinc.com/blog. I seem to have gotten it all to work right, but I'm getting tons of 404 errors and they all have " in them for example: http://www.moondoggieinc.com/blog/”http://www.moondoggieinc.com/custom_dog_tanks_and_tees.php” I'm not sure how this happened of how to fix it, but there are about 250 pages like this. I know how to redirect them all with a 301 in htaccess, but Im not sure if that's the appropriate course to fix this or if that's just putting a patch on something that's causing a more major issue. Or do i just need to write 250 301 redirects? Thanks! Kristy O

Are all duplicate pages bad?
I just got my first Crawl Report for my forum and it said I have almost 9,000 duplicate pages. When I looked at a sample of them though I saw that many of them were "reply" links. By this I mean the "reply" button was clicked for a topic yet since the crawler was not a member, it just brought them to the login/register screen. Since all the topics would bring you to the same login page I'm assuming it counted all these "reply" links as duplicates. Should I just ignore these or is there some way to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Should i Change On Page Optimization ?
Hi, PC monitoring and computer monitoring software are our targeted keywords. Around 5 weeks ago, We created a page for pc monitoring software (home/pc-monitoring-software) and did some bookmarking and guest posts targeting PC monitoring software keyword. Now we are in Top 15 on Google for PC monitoring software keyword . Initially we were thinking to change content of around 2 year old home page to adjust computer monitoring software keyword and do SEO for this keyword. But few days ago, we noticed that our pc-monitoring-software page is already ranking in early fourties for computer monitoring software keyword as well. May be Google is giving advatage of being synonym of PC . Now we are thinking that we should optimize the PC monitoring software page for both computer and PC software keywords like adding "computer monitoring software" in addition to existing "pc monitoring software" in title and similalrly do other on page related work for Computer Mnitoring Software. We are also thinking of doing 301 redirect of existing pc-monitoring-software page to new computer-monitoring-software page which will be optimized both for PC and Computer. Please suggest me if it will help to get good ranking for both PC and Computer Monitoring software if we make above mentioned changes or we should not change the existing pc-monitoring-software page and shall stick to earlier plan of changing the home page to adjust for computer monitoring software.? I'm new to SEO, so want to make wise decision with your help instead of learning with failures. Thanks, shahzad

Is this 404 page indexed?
I have a URL that when searched for shows up in the Google index as the first result but does not have any title or description attached to it. When you click on the link it goes to a 404 page. Is it simply that Google is removing it from the index and is in some sort of transitional phase or could there be another reason.
