If you're looking to highlight your most important pages to Google you could consider using the priority tag. There's more about this here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/183668?hl=en&ref_topic=6080646&rd=1

Hi,
Thanks a lot basically I have big number of pages and some of these pages does not appear in google search result so i thought to minimize my site map and submit just important pages

Hi there,
If you don't want Google to index certain pages on your site then you should block them using robots.txt. You can also de-index them via Google Webmaster Tools. You can find more info on this here: http://moz.com/learn/seo/robotstxt
If necessary you can then create a new sitemap and submit it via GWT.
I hope this helps.

If you don't want Google to index certain pages, you're best off adding them to your robot.txt file. The sitemap is just a guide, and leaving out certain pages does not necessarily mean Google won't index them.

Sitemap
I have a question for the links in a sitemap. Wordpress works with a sitemap that first link to the different kind of pages: pagesitemap.xml categorysitemap.xml productsitemap.xml etc. etc. These links on the first page are clickable. We have a website that also links to the different pages but it's not clickable, just a flat link. Is this an issue?

If I want clean up my URLs and take the "www.site.com/page.html" and make it "www.site.com/page" do I need a redirect?
If I want clean up my URLs and take the "www.site.com/page.html" and make it "www.site.com/page" do I need a redirect? If this scenario requires a 301 redirect no matter what, I might as well update the URL to be a little more keyword rich for the page while I'm at it. However, since these pages are ranking well I'd rather not lose any authority in the process and keep the URL just stripped of the ".html" (if that's possible). Thanks for you help! Question about construction of our sitemap URL in robots.txt file
Hi all, This is a Webmaster/SEO question. This is the sitemap URL currently in our robots.txt file: http://www.ccisolutions.com/sitemap.xml As you can see it leads to a page with two URLs on it. Is this a problem? Wouldn't it be better to list both of those XML files as separate line items in the robots.txt file? Thanks! Dana

Any idea why our sitemap images aren't indexed?
Here's our sitemap: http://www.driftworks.com/shop/sitemap/dw_sitemap.xml In google webmaster tools, I can see the sitemap report and it says: Items:Web Submitted:2,798 Indexed:2,910 Items:Images Submitted:3,178 Indexed:0 Do you have any idea why our images are not being indexed according to webmaster tools? I checked a few of the image URLs and they worked nicely. Thanks in advance, J

Is having a sitemap.xml file still beneficial?
Hi, I'm pretty new to SEO and something I've noticed is that a lot of things become relevant and irrelevant like the weather. I was just wondering if having a sitemap.xml file for Google's use is still a good idea and beneficial? Logically thinking, my websites would get crawled faster by having one. Cheers.
