Client wants a seperate .tv domain for their media/videos instead of a subdomain/subfolder. What is the best way to pass of link equity to a new domain?

We have a client that wants to place their video content on a .tv tld instead of a subfolder/subdomain in their .com website. They believe that the .tv domain will better represent the media experience of their business. We can understand this client's position however we are concerned about their .tv domain will lose out on the link equity if it were no longer placed in the .com's subdomain/subfolder.
Here are our questions:
1. What would be the best way to pass of link equity from .com website to a new .tv domain? Should we just have a video link on the .com website that 301 directs to the new .tv domain?
2. Is there any SEO benefit of having a .tv domain for Google Video queries or even Youtube?
3. Is there any long term value of having two different websites? For link equity purposes we understand that it would be better if everything was in a .com. However is a .tv domain ideal for a better representation of their media content?

I was surprised that I didn't recognize lots of big brands with .tv domains. So, in my mind, .tv domains are frivolous.

These are just my own answers, don't accept them as "best practice" or anything like that because lots of people will disagree with me.
We have a client that wants to place their video content on a .tv tld instead of a subfolder/subdomain in their .com website.
In this situation, I would explain to the client that most SEO professionals will recommend keeping all of their assets on a single domain. This is generally agreed to produce the highest rankings. I would make certain that they understand this completely.
They believe that the .tv domain will better represent the media experience of their business.
They seem to feel so strongly enough about this .tv domain that they are willing to sacrifice their potential rankings. So, I would tell them that they should move ALL of their assets to this .tv domain instead of dumping them into a caboose.
They must feel that their video assets are special. They must think that the .tv domains are special. So, I would toss this at them and see how they react.
If their video assets are so wonderful then it is possible that the .tv domain will become a powerhouse site, then they will have all of the rest of their assets in a caboose on a .com.
I personally don't have experience in the .tv space. Are lots of major players moving onto them for good reason? Do they think enough of them to move all of their assets to them? Or is the use of .tv domains frivolous?
So, going full circle on this, I still think that it is a bad idea to move videos to a .tv domain instead of putting them into a folder on this company's established .com. The only reason that I would change my mind about this is if major companies are moving to this in a big way. I would register the .tv domain and sit on it until this is the clear and widely accepted path.

Putting my content under domain.com/content, or under related categories: domain.com/bikes/content ?
Hello This questions plays on what Joe Hall talked about during this years' MozCon: Rethinking Information Architecture for SEO and Content Marketing. My Case:

So.. we're working out guidelines and templates for a costumer (sporting goods store) on how to publish content (articles, videos, guides) on their category pages, product pages, and other pages. At this moment I have 2 choices:
1. Use a url-structure/information architecture where all the content is placed in one subfolder, for example domain.com/content. Although it's placed here, there's gonna be extensive internal linking from /content to the related category pages, so the content about bikes (even if it's placed under domain.com/bikes) will be just as visible on the pages related to bikes. 2. Place the content about bikes on a subdirectory under the bike category, **for example domain.com/bikes/content. ** The UX/interface for these two scenarios will be identical, but the directories/folder-hierarchy/url structure will be different. According to Joe Hall, the latter scenario will build up more topical authority and relevance towards the category/topic, and should be the overall most ideal setup. Any thoughts on which of the two solutions is the most ideal? PS: There is one critical caveat her: my costumer uses many url-slugs subdirectories for their categories, for example domain.com/activity/summer/bikes/, which means the content in the first scenario will be 4 steps away from the home page. Redirecting main www. subdomain to new domain. Can you then create a new subdomain on the old domain?
Hi there, The scenario is this: We have been working on a rebrand and have changed the company name So, we want to redirect www.old-name.com to www.new-name.com However, the parent company is retaining the old brand name for corporate purposes So, in an ideal world, we'd be able to keep www.old-name.com active - but clearly that would sacrifice all of the authority built up over the years, so we do have to redirect the main www. subdomain in it's entirity. However - one suggested solution is to redirect www.old-domain.com to www.new-domain.com... but then create a new corporate subdomain: for example, business.old-domain.com business.old-domain.com will not be competing with the new site on any service/product related terms; it will only need to appear in SERPs for the company name I'd appreciate some thoughts on this, as I've not done this before or found any examples of anyone that has. Is that a massive risk in terms of sending a confusing message to Google? Thanks for your help

Doing large scale visual link/content analysis
Hi i currently have a list of about 5000 URLs i want to visually check quickly, to identify decent content. I'm currently opening 200 at a time with firefox, more than 200 it gets really choppy and slow as you would expect. I was wondering if anyone knew any other ways of opening a large amount of web pages. It would be sweet if there was a tool which can scan a list, add the webpages to a pdf/powerpoint and send them back to you for analysis. Kind Regards, Chris

Website, webshop and blog. Subfolders or subdomains?
Hello fellow mozzers, I've seen a lot of discussion and confusion about whether you should use subfolders or subdomains when you have a website, a blog and a webshop.

Of course with subfolders the PageRank will be more effective since it's all in one domain. On the other hand subdomains will be a better user experience since you can focus on just the webshop or just the blog. Was wondering how you guys/girls think what would be the best way to handle this.0 -
Subdomain Metrics Links??
I have been analysing my companies website against our competitors and we beat them hands down on everything apart from the total links in the subdomain metrics. Our competitor jumped above us a couple of months ago to grab the number one spot for our industries most valuable keyword. They have had a new website designed and after looking at the source code and running it through SEO MOZ in comparison to our site I can't see how they have manged to do it. We beat them hands down on all factors apart from subdomain metrics > Total links where they have twice as many. When it comes to Page Specific Metrics and Root Domain Metrics we easily beat them on all factors. Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to improve the subdomain metrics? Thanks

If we add noindex to a subdomain, will the traffic to that subdomain still generate domain authority for the primary domain?
We are trying to decide whether a password protected site, that we will noindex, should be set up as a subdomain or if it should be its own domain. The determining factor here is whether or not having that noindexed subdomain will increase domain authority since its noindexed. Any ideas???

What are the Best Practices for moving a blog from subdomain to domain/subcategory?
Howdy SEOmoz fans! (couldn't resist). I'm moving a wordpress blog from blog.domain.com to domain.com/blog. Trying to do it right the first time and cover all my bases.
