Standalone Hosting Plan vs Multisite Hosting Plan for SEO?
-
I am looking to migrate my current site to Siteground so I was having a chat with the operator who is telling me that if I was to sign up a new hosting plan I would get additional SEO benefits.. can anyone confirm or deny this?
Also while on the question, do certain domain/hosting providers offer better SEO/SERP rankings and if they do can anyone recommend any in Australia in Particular?
The domain is a .com.au website
Transcript:
me: i have a website that is registered at crazydomains and Wordpress files hosted on my friends server... what would I need to do to have the domain/hosting transfered to SG?
Siteground Operator:.: Let me take a look at the website and I will provide you with a solution
me: thx
Siteground Operator:.: In this case you have two choices, you can either host it on your current plan or create a new one just for it
Siteground Operator:.: Getting a new plan will be a better choice in terms of SEO and performance
Siteground Operator:.: But you can run it on your current GrowBig as well
me: why will taht give it better SEO?
Siteground Operator:.: Because it will have its own cPanel and it will be a primary domain for it, instead of having it setup as an addon
me: How does Google know what the primary or secondary domain on my hosting plan?
Siteground Operator:.: It doest, as your file location will be primarydomain.com/addonslot
Siteground Operator:.: Compared to primarydomain.com if you put it in its own hosting plan
me: So im struggling to understand how this affects my SEO?
Siteground Operator:.: SERP is based on a couple of things, one of which is domain authority (DO). This tends to be a lot harder to build up with addon domains compared to domains hosted in their own plans.
Siteground Operator:.: Additionally, you will have 2 sites under a single IP address which is not the optimal solution you want to get
me: What would need to be done as far as transfering the WP installation/files/databse etc
Siteground Operator:.: As its stored on a local host you will have to upload a backup copy of your files and db on our server and we will configure it for you.
System: me has ended the chat -
No worries
Did you make a decision in the end?

So what you will get out of a multi-account domain hosting is all domains hosted on the same host one being the primary the rest would be add-ons. . The rep may over sold the SEO benefits in this case. However, he does have a point IMO. Lets say you have the following multi-domains on the same host plan
Flower-City.co.au (Primary)
Rose-City.co.au (Add On)
Tulip-City.co.au (Add On)All these domains are hosted on the same server with the same name server that resolves the actual path. If Flower-City.co.au gets hit with a penalty for whatever reason the add-on domains may also suffer because technically they are on the same server, thus creating an association to a penalized domain. Additional issues like flower-city.co.au being marked as a spammer may cause the other sub-domains to be flagged as spam even if they never sent an email, simply because they are on the same server. This could actually work in the other direction as well, rose-city.co.au you get the penalty thus affecting the other domains it is associated with.
If you everything is done correctly on each domain, and no penalties are ever occurred than I can't see any reason why each domain wouldn't be able to rank and benefit from proper SEO individually.
My thoughts,
Hope it helps.

I am a big fan of SiteGround, but that is a load of rubbish.

Splitting a strong page - SEO
Hi, I have a page with high traffic that is showing a list of flea markets in a unique URL. We are redesigning our website and we have created a listing directory of flea markets, so the users can look up and find the information for each. Each flea market will have its own URL in the future, and the listing directory shows only summarized info of each flea market in the results. Before activating the new flea market section, I would like to make sure which is our best bet: Option 1: Create pages with same URL/content as the current ones, which we won't link from frontend, and besides that, use the new flea market section on a separate page. Option 2: Redirect the current page to the new flea market section. As an inaccurate reference because it depends on many variables and SEO doesn't have an actual number, I understand this is more or less how it would work: Example Option 1 (after 1 week of launch): Old Flea Market Pages SEO traffic: 10,000 visits/month New Copied Flea Market Pages traffic: 9,700 (maybe a bit below 100 because of design changes etc) New Flea Market Section traffic: 500 visits/month (then increase over time) Example Option 2 (after 1 week of launch): Old Flea Market Pages SEO traffic: 10,000 visits/month New Redirected Flea Market Pages traffic: 9,000 (in principle PageRank wouldn't be affected, but other rankings might) New Flea Market Section traffic: (joined above, then increase over time) According to this, Option 1 would give us more total future visits compared to redirecting, plus the new flea market pages would add to it. If redirecting, the new flea market section would add up some SEO juice to the old page, but not as much as Option 1 (not redirecting). Please confirm. Which option is the best one and why? Advanced SEO question.
Hi, I manage and do the SEO for this site: www.aerlawgroup.com. If you Google "Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney", you can see I rank well (1st page). I have managed to achieve similar rankings for interior pages within the site: www.aerlawgroup.com/domestic-violence.html (Google: "Los Angeles Domestic Violence Attorney".) Here is my question. No matter how hard I try, I cannot get to the first page on Google for the search term: "Los Angeles DUI Lawyer", for the following interior page: www.aerlawgroup.com/dui.html. Is there anyway that I can pass the authority/ranking (not sure what to call it) that I have for www.aerlawgroup.com to www.aerlawgroup.com/dui.html so that internal page ranks higher for "Los Angeles DUI Lawyer"? I apologize if my question doesn't make sense. In a nutshell, I'm trying to understand if there is anyway to use the ranking I have for www.aerlawgroup.com to help me rank higher for Los Angeles DUI lawyer for the dui interior page. If not, are there any other suggestions anyone has to achieve a higher ranking? Thanks!

PageRank vs. Domain Authority
A web-site has PR5 but in OSE I see that Domain Authority is only 26. I've also checked and the domain was registered in 2009. Is this normal?

Ugh...getting organized with my SEO
One thing I have learned about SEO is that it takes a patient, organized and task oriented person in order to be a good SEO'r. Luckily I have these skills which I think helps me with my own personal SEO, but at the same time I have other personality traits that work against me at the same time which can distract me from staying on track. I am a goal oriented person - I like to create weekly, monthly and yearly goals to help keep me focused. I am a patient person I am a task oriented person - I can repeat a task over and over again even if I hate it. I am very organized - I am a better house keeper than my wife (which drivers her crazy) but at the same time I have some other personality traits that work against me which counter act against my strong points. I can't leave a task undone and I have to complete it immediately I am a multi tasker - I can do 20 things at once. The struggle I have is even though I set goals, complete them and have the patience to do them at the same time I tend to work on things and won't move on until they are done. Even though their importance may not be as pressing an other areas. For instance I will work on getting rid of Google errors (404's), fixing code issues with the site people report instead of taking the time to work on the bigger things like fixing issues which effected me from Panda and Penguin. I get stuck on these smaller tasks since I know I can complete them faster, but they never seem to end. I would love to hear other models SEO'r use to help them organize their time management and spreading the tasks across the board and get everything done.

Can a Hosting provider that also hosts adult content sites negatively affect our SEO rankings on a non-adult site hosted on same platform?
We're considering moving a site to a host that also offers hosting for adult websites. Can this have a negative affect on SEO, if our hosting company is in any way associated with adult websites?
