Is this the best way to get rid of low quality content?
-
Hi there, after getting hit by the Panda bear (30% loss in traffic) I've been researching ways to get rid of low quality content. From what I could find the best advise seemed to be a recommendation to use google analytics to find your worst performing pages (go to traffic sources - google organic - view by landing page). Any page that hasn't been viewed more than 100 times in 18 months should be a candidate for a deletion. Out of over 5000 pages and using this report we identified over 3000 low quality pages which I've begun exporting to excel for further examination.
However, starting with the worst pages (according to analytics) I'm noticing some of our most popular pages are showing up here. For example: /countries/Panama is showing up as zero views but the correct version (with the end slash) countries/Panama/ is showing up as having over 600 views. I'm not sure how google even found the former version of the link but I'm even less sure how to proceed now (the webmaster was going to put a no-follow on any crap pages but this is now making him nervous about the whole process).
Some advise on how to proceed from here would be fantastico and danke

Hi! I've asked for another associate with more Panda experience than I to come in and comment on this question.
Byork, knowing a little more about your trailing slash issue could help out. Do you have trailing slash redirects in place for all of your pages? Were they put in at a particular time, where you might be able to look at data from just after that date?
If the trailing slashes are in place correctly and always have been, and it's just some weird artifact of GA that is causing these pages to show up with 0 visits, can you ignore those pages that don't have the trailing slash and focus just on the metrics for those with the trailing slash?

rel=canonical is more for when there are parameters on your URLs that you can't really do anything about. When you know one URL is being served, but should be another, you should use a 301 redirect. So in this case, you should pick which URL you like better, either with or without the trailing slash, and redirect one to the other. Google treats both of these as two completely separate pages, which is why you're seeing views on one and not the other. If you can't configure the redirect, then you could resort to rel=canonical.
If you have pages with similar content but not a lot of views, then 301 redirecting that page to another page with more views would be fine. That'll pass it's pagerank along, and good for people who find that original URL later, because they'll go to an actual page instead of your 404 page.

Great question.
I'd appreciate a pro seo opinion on this, but here's what I am doing on our website.
To Rel Canonical or 301? That is the question for the /countries/Panama to countries/Panama/ and the other examples like that.
On the other pages, what about moving the best part of the content from a low view page to a similar content higher view page and then 301 the old page to the better page?

High clicks and low rankings - Correlation?
Hi everyone, we noticed while doing last month's reports that even the best performing campaigns have a few keywords that slipped - some up to 10 positions down. We know keywords fluctuate every month, but May was just a weird month for rankings. While looking at possible issues that caused this, we noticed that these campaigns' clicks have gone up. So while keywords have gone down, their visitors seemed to be on the rise. Is there a correlation? Maybe Google saw an increase in visitors and decided something's up and lowered the rankings (this sounds ridiculous - sorry! May just be pure luck, but thought I'd ask anyway). Has anyone seen a drop in their rankings for May also? I checked everywhere, and I don't think there has been a major update going on. Thanks!

Why am I not getting on Map Listing Results?
Greetings Mozzers, To my knowledge I'm doing everything that is "required" to start showing up on the map results when searching something local, however, we never seem to be on map results (A, B, C, D...etc). We have a Google+ page, submitted to Google Places (received PIN and entered it), optimized address to identical and in high authority map listing directories (GetListed.org), increased citations throughout the web, optimized keywords for categories on Google Places, schema.org HTML markup for address, meta address tags, consistent reviews being written by unique visitors to review sites (Yelp, Google+, etc). Am I missing a major component? Any advice would be great as I feel like I'm hitting many notes that should translate into a map result. Even for keywords that aren't incredibly difficult where we are ranking #1 above map results every time. Thanks and hope all have a great weekend!

How could Google define "low quality experience merchants"?
Matt Cutts mentioned at SXSW that Google wants to take into consideration the quality of the experience ecommerce merchants provide and work this into how they rank in SERPs. Here's what he said if you missed it: "We have a potential launch later this year, maybe a little bit sooner, looking at the quality of merchants and whether we can do a better job on that, because we don’t want low quality experience merchants to be ranking in the search results.” My question; how exactly could Google decide if a merchant provides a low and high quality experience? I would image it would be very easy for Google to decide this with merchants in their Trusted Store program. I wonder what other data sets Google could realistically rely upon to make such a judgment. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.

Content vs articles vs blogs is there a difference?
I was wondering is there really a difference between website content, articles or blogs and most important do search engines see it differently? My website is pretty much an ecommerce site and most of my long text is on my blog. The only other pages that have much content is the homepage, all the other pages may have a paragraph. I am just wondering if i need to make more actual pages with text/content or is having my blogs good enough? I am no expert in seo and just wondering if i am wasting too much money on getting blogs written or should i get more content. Content being a page called commercial printing and blog being a page called why do do i need commercial printing? Also would it matter to the users who find the site? Would the users come to my site just looking for information or would they actually think of me for the service?

How to build good content and choose right keywords.?
I have started building content for our website using the Wordpress tool. Now I wanted to know that I use GA and the Adwords keyword tool. I go in for exact matching keywords and have selected a few of them. How do I know if these keywords are actually the ones going to give me good traffic? How can I select good keywords and write content along them. I don't wish to over stuff articles with the keywords. How can I refrain from doing so. Any optimum limit through which I know how much of the keyword needs to occur how many times within an article? Please give some good insights as to how this is accomplished? Thanks

What is considered duplicate content in an ecommerce website that offers the same product for retail and wholesale purchasing?
I have an ecommerce website that offers retail and wholesale products which are identical, of course with the exception of pricing. My concern is duplicate content. If the same product is offered under both the retail and wholesale category, and described identically, with the exception of price, metadata and a few words, is that considered duplicate content and would both pages be disregarded by the robots? Is it best to avoid the same description for that one product under the two separate categories? Thanks for all your help!
