Hosting All Content Images On Flickr For Blog - What are SEO implications?
-
Hi,
I am starting a travel blog and thought of the idea of hosting all the content images over at Flickr and just calling them into my blog content when needed.
Benefits:
- push traffic over to my Flickr account
- pull traffic from Flickr to my blog
However, I was just wondering about any SEO implications of having 3-4 links per post pointing to Flickr. Is this spammy? Will I lose my juice?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification Andy.

In my opinion, and it's just an opinion - clearly not gospel ;-), hosting images on the site is better. You may also post the images on sites like Flickr for the traffic. Flickr links do not pass link equity and you will lose link equity by having the external links on your page/s. The Flickr domain may be strong, but the page/s you host your photos on may not be strong (re: social signals). However I would agree with having photos (tagged) on as many good sites as possible for traffic, links & signals. In the past Rand has suggested hosting images on Flickr... not sure what he thinks nowadays.
Ryan; there are some who believe in hosting images off-site, and some who favour hosting images on-site. There's a lot of discussion around the topic; I haven't seen anything definitive one way or the other.

Hi Andy,
I do intend to have the images on my site - just hosted over at Flickr.
This will allow me to add another level of engagement (over at Flickr) and Ill be able to link back to my site (and aim for a strong social signal for my domain).
Thoughts?

Hi Andy.
That is interesting to hear. I would love to learn more about this topic. Do you have any links to discussions on this subject?

Having the images on your site's pages is better SEO wise. The algo takes into consideration 'engagement objects' such as photos, video, etc. in a positive way. The same goes for videos. If bandwidth is an issue, I'd suggest handling it in ways that will still allow you to keep your photos on the site.

Hi Chris.
Hosting images on Flickr is fine. It certainly is not spammy.
Based on your description, it seems you are linking to single images each time so you can still use the ALT tag. In my experience Flickr renames images to an unfriendly name. I am not sure if we have any Flickr pros who can advise you on a means to keep the uploaded file name. If not, you do lose the SEO benefit of a cleanly named file.

Google images not showing on SERP
Hi, I recently noticed that after a specific name search, Google images on the 'Web' SERP are no longer showing up. About a month ago, there were atleast 4-5 headshots of this particular person showing up whenever his name was searched. Now no images are showing, just the ten organic links and two links from adwords campaign we have going. The images are still optimized and some are even from editorial sites. Does anyone know what may have caused the images to disappear and what we can do to bring them back to the main SERP? (Not sure if it matters but we are in Canada) Thanks

Is there an index of local blogs somewhere?
I'm trying to find (and evaluate) blogs in my area, but searching for them via google has been pretty tedious so far. Does anyone know of a website where I can locate blogs in my area? For example, ideally, I'd like to go to something like www.blogfinder.com, type in Tampa and get a list of all the blogs dedicated to this area. Anyone know of anything like that? Thanks, Ruben

A lot of local SEO questions from a newbie...
I've been doing basic SEO for customers for quite awhile now in terms of on-page stuff, but am starting to move into the arena of local SEO services and had a few questions that I hoped you guys could help with. 1. What services besides Google+ Local do you list customers websites in, such as Yahoo or Bing Local? 2. When creating accounts at the services listed question #1, do you have to verify the phone number that's listed with the business owner or is there any extra type of verification needed? How do you deal with getting all that verified for the company? 3. Do you create all these listings at Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. from the same account? 4. Does anyone know of a list of the top 50 places to get local citations such as Yelp or YellowPages? 5. When creating citations do you normally have to verify the phone number or address that you list and how do you deal with that with business owners? 6. Do you use the same accounts to create all the local citations or are different ones required for each listing? 7. What companies would you recommend that handle all the above for you, such as a setting up accounts at Google, Yahoo, and Bing - and then also creating around 50 citations for you? Of course all the login information would also need to be provided for everything they create. Thanks for taking the time to read this post, I look forward to hearing back from all of you!

Local SEO: Links with the citations so should I slow down?
Hello, There seems to be some nofollow and dofollow links building as I add structured citations. Is this a reason to slow down the building citation process if you want the links to count? Do they help organic SEO?

Local SEO: Google Places and Google+
Hello, I'm a little confused by Google+ for business. I set up a Google Places page in 2010 and recently changed my address to incorporate my suite number and to spell out "Street" instead of abbreviating. I'm planning on carefully changing all citations to match. Next I started a Google+ page for my business. But I couldn't fill out the address and ended up requesting a postcard for verification to continue. The postcard was sent to the right address but no suite number. I'll still get the postcard, but I can't finish my page yet. Also, I don't know if I have to re-verify my Places page with the slight changes. Am I on the right track?

Prioritising certain images in search results
I am currently putting together a website for my hobby (collecting cycling jerseys) that I can then use to improve my SEO knowledge. I have tried to optimize the image names so that when somebody searches for a particular item, the image is shown in Google Images. For example; if you type in "ADR jersey" in google; it gives the following image; http://cycling-jersey-collection.com/images/150px/2013-02-07-adr-fangio-ioc-mbk-1987-team-retro-jersey-maillot-trikot.jpg Whereas I want it to prioritize this one; http://cycling-jersey-collection.com/images/2013-02-07-adr-fangio-ioc-mbk-1987-team-retro-jersey-maillot-trikot.jpg The smaller image is used on a "Browse" the collection page whereas the bigger one is just used on the single, specific page. Can anybody offer any up-to-date advice? Thanks! Andy

Perhaps a silly question but could someone please clarify if displaying a mobile number in the main site or Google places etc would hurt local SEO? Is having a regional landline/fixed telephone number a ranking factor? EDIT: This is for a UK site, does anyone have experience of this is UK please?
