One keyword optimization for the whole site
-
Hello Folks at MOZ,
I am new here and I am glad there's this section of the site where newbies can get help for SEO.
I have a specific keyword which needs to rank as well as possible, and all other keywords, well they are automatically in the description text alt tags and in couple of page titles.
So my keyword which I would need to rank as high as possible is "24k gold iphone 6" and it has quite lot's of searches per month, and my site is now one second page of google results.
My question is: I don't care much about other keywords right now, so would it make sense to make on one or two pages which sell the 24k gold iphone of my website the title, the page url, headers, alt tags, image names, to be exactly "24k gold iphone 6" and /24k-gold-iphone-6.html etc. without any other text. I believe there is a difference in having exact same page title name etc as the keyword, without any additional text is good for ranking?
Also I guess there is limit on how much this naming of files, titles etc can be used before google might give a penalty for it... so I guess I have to be careful.
Many thanks for anybody who takes time to respond.

Hi Oxana,
It is best practice to focus one page to a keyword. This is what will prevent you falling foul of issues.
However, I wouldn't use the same phrase for everything. When crafting a good page, you need to take an informative view of the results in the SERPs. When someone sees the page, the title should tell them exactly what they can expect to find. If it is information on a gold iPhone 6, then say this. If it is to try and get someone to buy one, say this.
- Buy 24k gold iphone 6 | Site name
- 24k gold iphone 6 information | Site name
You get the gist.
Then look at the description. Remember to keep this informative as this is often the precursor to someone clicking on your link.
Within the page, don't use the exact same phrase (24k gold iphone 6) as an H1 or as the ALT tag. You can get caught out for boilerplate template if you carry the same across other key factors, and Google will be watching for this. There is no harm in mentioning a gold iPhone 6, but be descriptive in how you do it.
Use it in the content, but don't overuse it. Google is very good at understanding what a page is all about without them having it stuffed down their throat.
Remember, you are writing for the visitor, not Google. There is a lot more to the visitor experience than SEO alone.

Thank you for your informative reply.
I would like to nevertheless ask if it's a good idea to optimize ONE page to the one keyword, using the exact keyword in title, url, alt tag, image name and the exact term in the description at some point.
Please let me know about this idea, I think it should work well
thanks!!

Hi Oxana,
It is very easy to go too far with SEO and over optimise, so I wouldn't suggest making everything the same. If you do this on multiple pages, then you will fall into keyword duplication / cannibalisation and you will have internal pages competing against each other.
If you have no variety on the site and don't create other pages that add supporting content, then you will struggle. Google doesn't just want to see the same phrase over and over. It is about intent, information, unique (and amazing) content and making sure you answer the questions that people are asking.
The best best thing you could do right now, if have a read of the MOZ beginners guide to SEO. This will give you a wealth of information and help you craft your pages to follow Google best practice.

How do I best optimize a video for a client's name?
Hello everyone, I have a client who is obsessed with his videos being indexed directly under his site. We've already labeled his videos with his names, enhanced the meta data to the video to include his name, have added his website to his YouTube Channel, and also have synced his Google Plus Business Page with his YouTube Channel. Any other tips to further optimize his videos with his name? This is a new channel, with an age of only 2 weeks- but this client is being quite loud, and thought I would see if any Moz'ers have any other tips/ suggestions? Thanks Everyone! -Kristin

Local Optimization for ATM Machine
I was curious if an ATM in a building or its own enclosure can be locally optimized as a branch if it has a physical location, it doesn't seem spammy by any means. If anyone has suggestions or an opinion I would love to hear them.

Google Local Listings dropped in all major keywords
One of our websites had dropped dramatically in all of his major keywords over the past several days. He was ranked in the maps section in google (the old pages not the google plus pages) in the top 3 in his most important keywords and all of a sudden they dropped off the first page completely - not just down one or 2 places. Not sure what happened and how to fix it.. help please!!!

What is the best way to embed a link back to our site in our video embed codes?
Our site has over 100 great videos. We are currently streaming them all from our YouTube channel. I noticed SEOMoz is using http://www.wistia.com and that when I copy and paste a video from SEOMoz that code has a link back to the SEOMoz site in it, which of course is awesome for SEO. My question has several parts: Is this possible to do with an embed code from YouTube? Specifically directed towards SEOMoz: Which of the 3 types of player did you choose, HTML5, Flash or javascript? Why? Is Wistia just creating a video feed, or are they actually hosting your video content too? Our goal is two-fold: 1. We want people who embed our videos to be also embeddding a link back to our site and 2. We want our videos to be found in SERPs and have those direct people to our site instead of our YouTUbe channel. I'd welcome any comments regarding video SEO in this thread. Thanks!

Can this make one's local listing vanish from Google local search?
Hi All, Does anyone know if selecting "Yes, this business serves customers at their locations" under "service areas and location settings" in Google Places can cause a business's listing to disappear from Google local search? My interior designer client has a bricks-and-mortar location, was ranking at about #20 for "interior designer" in Portland, and now has dropped from local search. I had "No, all customers come to the business location" selected previously. In the past week, before the vanishing, I made these changes: 1. changed the service area to "Yes, this business serves customers at their locations", 2. removed "Portland" from the description in Google Places, and 3. submitted maybe two dozen directory listings to high DA sites (using Whitespark as the tool for determining where to post). Thanks everyone! Zack

How can we geo-target our website optimization for cities besides our physical location?
We have a client that is a solar energy installation & leasing company in Austin, TX that wants to target the Houston and Dallas markets. We can do a Place Page for their physical offices in Austin and San Antonio to drive traffic for those cities. But we’re not sure the best way to help them rank for Houston and Dallas, where they don't have a physical address. We’re considering a separate landing page for each city, optimized for the geo-term. Will that help them to rank in the 7Pack in Houston and Dallas, if there’s no Place Page? Will it help them rank in the organic listings for that region? Can you offer any other suggestions for how to help them rank in 2 cities where they don’t have physical offices?
