How do I best optimize a video for a client's name?
-
Hello everyone,
I have a client who is obsessed with his videos being indexed directly under his site. We've already labeled his videos with his names, enhanced the meta data to the video to include his name, have added his website to his YouTube Channel, and also have synced his Google Plus Business Page with his YouTube Channel. Any other tips to further optimize his videos with his name? This is a new channel, with an age of only 2 weeks- but this client is being quite loud, and thought I would see if any Moz'ers have any other tips/ suggestions?
Thanks Everyone!

Thank you everyone for the excellent feedback!

First things first - does the video deserve to rank for this chaps name?
If the content isn't getting watched and it's not a good reflection of the company, tweaking the meta information will only get you so far. Before you begin, it has to be a good video. Second, it's in no way guaranteed that Google will show any videos for the query of his name anyway. A search term has to pass Google's "query deserves video" test before something is likely to be shown - and while you can force this a bit by having a very popular video clearly relevant to the search term, you won't get anywhere unless the video is good.
Additionally, 2 weeks is far too short a period of time to be testing this. Your client will need to be patient and wait a couple of months.

All i'd add to the comments so far is to ensure you have a video sitemap as well

You've done pretty well with it so far. The main thing is, do videos actually show up in the search results? If not, then sometimes, itll take a longer time to actually get it to show up even if it's for a brand name. Sometimes, it just wont show at all.

Hey Red,
I want to write everything in this reply but I actually have a slideshare that I used for a Video SEO presentation I did a little while ago. Some of the tactics could be altered with YouTube's changes, but a lot of it still applies. Its Video SEO.

I hope it helps!

Looks like you're doing a lot right! If it's an option you could list the "Videos" section within the site links (if he has some). You can also show him that Google displaying videos is largely dependent on what someone is searching for, for example, Search + "video". Overall, I'd try to get him to express his goals with the videos in a way different than rankings or how Google is laid out.

Hi! If I integrate a video to my website (vimeo or youtube) the pagespeed slows down. Now I integrate my video in wordpress with special plugins. These plugins shows only the thumbnail, only if the user clicks on these thumbnail, the video is loading. So is my pagespeed perfect ... .. buuut now my question: Google loves tables, images, video ... Sees google these thumbnail still as a video or now only as a image? Thanks!

How do you manage phone verification when claiming listings on behalf of clients (local and remote)?
As the top competitive difference maker, Quality/Authority of Structured Citations is pretty important. That being said, I spend a good deal of time manually running around to different citation websites and jumping through their hoops to get my clients' websites listed properly. I've been using getlisted.org to check my sites, and a lot of the citation sources out there require phone verification. Now I was wondering how you professionally manage the phone verification step for your own clients. I've found it a bit difficult getting my clients to reliably get the PIN numbers for me. I've even had problems with clients checking the mail for the post cards that get sent! At this point in time, I try to schedule a time (not during business hours preferably) to go into the location and answer the phone to get everything verified in one shot. For remote clients however, I just have to hope that they are on board with answering their phones and getting the PIN numbers back to me. Lastly, how do you manage to reduce the amount of sales calls that your client receives from these listing sites? I currently register accounts under a separate email address, for example, webmaster@domain.com. This cuts down on the email marketing spam, and it obviously helps me stay in control of the listings. How do you handle the phone calls though? Especially from some of the more aggressive companies like Yelp? Personally I've just been 'briefing' my clients on how to respond to these sales calls, and I've educated them on the importance of these listings so they aren't too annoyed with the assault of sales reps calling their business constantly. Are there any magic words that my clients can use with these sales reps to make them stop calling? Sorry for the long post, if you've made it this far thank you for reading!

How can I make embedded YouTube videos point to my domain in the search results?
We've recently moved to using YouTube for embedded videos on our site. We have a number of videos that are embedded and then a larger number of videos which are part of our YouTube channel. I've been reading recently that it's possible to get Google to list embedded video links pointing to your site rather than to YouTube itself. I am interesting in driving traffic directly from the search results to our pages rather than via YouTube. Could somebody provide a basic step by step guide on how to do this please? Or is this something that is not possible? I've been doing a lot of research online but, sadly, can't work out how to do this.

City names in URLs
Hey guys. When targeting a specific keyword that mentions a city (eg. Dover Used Cars) would it be a good practice to include that city in the URL when creating additional pages (eg. placethatsellsusedcars.com/dover-used-fords)? Thanks!

Self Hosting Videos in Wordpress
Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best way to host my own videos on my website in addition to uploading them to YouTube. My site is Wordpress-based, and I use Pages for the main landing pages, Posts to create the different products I offer. Is there a good way to upload my videos of each product into those Posts for SEO purposes? Maybe there's a specific plugin that I should be using? Thanks in advance, Shawn
